No Bloodcrushers? No Fateweaver?...piece of cake.

Mission: Victory Points. My old 4th edition friend!

Deployment: Spearhead

Game Length: 7 Turns

Special Rules:
Deep Strike
Reserves
Night Fight Turns 1-3

My Strategy for the game:
I was worried about this mission because I have a shooting army, and Eldar can’t see in the dark. I was talking to Dave Taylor about this and he thinks it might be because Eldar are nearsighted, that is also the reason why they can only shoot 12”. To defend this army I choose the anti-deepstrike defense of turtling up in a corner.

I loose the die roll and have to go first

Turn #1

Eldar turn #1
I set up in the corner and waited. I did not touch my models during the turn and my opponent asks if I was going to move. I informed him that I was fine where I was, and for him to go ahead.

Chaos Demons turn #1
He splits his army in 2 that mirrors the other. The preferred wave has Skarbrand and an extra Soulgrinder and he gets them in.
He comes in hard to the right. He places his Soulgrinders back a little and the horrors on the far right with Skarbrand behind them. He scatters his Bloodletters right on my Guardians and has a “mishap” with his Bloodletters are they are lost to the warp. His horrors shoot my guardians and kill a few.

Turn #2

Eldar turn #2
I have trouble seeing, but I try to do what I can. I move my guardians up to shoot his horrors and to screen my army from Skarbrand. I kill only a few of them though.

Chaos Demons turn #2
He only gets his horrors on and they land to the far left and go after my Walk Walkers killing one, and stunning the others. His horror squad on the right shoots at my Guardians again they are down to 2 models. Skarbrand advances behind them.

Turn #3

Eldar turn #3
On the left my Jetbikes and my Guardians move forward and unload on the Horrors and they die. What few units can see try to shoot the Horrors, but it is so dark out there.

Chaos Demons turn #3
He gets in his second Bloodletters and they have another mishap and I get to place them. I place them in front of my army where the Horrors use to be. Skarbrand and his Soulgrinders move forward.

Turn #4

Eldar turn #4
Yeah! Daylight!
I move my army to the left and the right. I do to the Bloodletters what I did to the Horrors. I move my Avatar to fight with Soulgrinder and he only takes off a CCW. I move my Falcon up to dump off the fire dragons to help soften up Skarbrand before the Harles hit him and I roll bad and only do one wound which he saves, so I shoot a Walk Walker squad at him and they kill him before the Harlies get to assault.

Chaos Demons turn #4
He gets in his last units. He places his Soulgrinder way back in the corner behind a hill, and his Bloodthirster to the left. He keeps on shooting phlegm at me, but gets bad scatters.

Turn #5

Eldar turn #5
War Walkers shoot at the Bloodthirster=No Bloodthirster. I load up the Fire Dragons in the Falcon and head out to take out the far back Soulgrinder. The Guardians shoot the Soulgrinder on the left and immobilize it.

Chaos Demons turn #5
My Avatar kills the Soulgrinder that he has been dancing with.

Turn #6

Eldar turn #6
I start to move out to hold the table quarters.

Chaos Demons turn #6
He only has a Soulgrinder and a half and concedes the game.

He was basically tabled and I lost a guardian squad.

If he had some Bloodcrushers I might have trouble taking them out, especially with the protection that night fight afforded them, but he just did not have the army to break my castle.

Who would have thought Eldar could wall up against Demons. Great reports so far. Looking forward to the rest.

So umm, does anyone else cringe every time they see that list? It seems like you would have a lot of trouble against any fully mech army.

I cringed when I saw three soulgrinders, I thought that might be a problem, but they didn't seem to withstand brightlance fire or assaults from the avatar.

So umm, does anyone else cringe every time they see that list? It seems like you would have a lot of trouble against any fully mech army.

Not really, there's two brightlances, a missile, some spears, and the ava-tard in there. When warwalkers outflank, they can shoot their guns at rear armor pretty much. He also has Eldrad who can guide whoever is shooting, and doom whoever is about to get charged. (also, I think in one of the other batreps he killed a tank by assaulting it with a warwalker) Edit: Oh yeah, and a falcon, yet more S8 shooting.

Well, every unit is capable of damaging or killing vehicles. Eldrad can also spin tanks with Eldritch storm if he really wants to, for a chance to turn side or rear armor towards the war walkers.

It's not optimized, but it's not terrible either.

Shall we go down the anti-tank list?

Guardians
2 Brightlances
1 Eldar Missile Launcher

Harlequins
2 Fusion Pistols and assault

Eldar Jetbikes
Shuriken Cannon
Singing Spear

Avatar
Wailing Doom and assault

Falcon
Pulse Laser
Eldar Missile Launcher

Fire Dragon
5 Fusion Guns

War Walkers
Srength 6 shooting and outflank

Eldrad
Witchblade

It would seem like I have adequate anti-tank. Anti-tank was a large concern on mine because before I did not have the Falcon or the Fire Dragons and I relied upon 2 Vypers with Brightlances and 3 Brightlances in my Guardian squads for all of my anti-tank, and the Vypers were to fragile, and the guardians BS3 was unreliable.

Oh, and here are some pictures of games where I went up against some mech armies:

Here is Hulksmash’s army that had 2 Landraiders. I took one out with a Brightlance and the other one out with a Singing Spear:

Here I was playing Shep’s army in a conventional scenario (instead of the crazy one I just wrote about). I did outflanked my Walk Walkers so I could get side/rear shots on him….and speaking of Eldritch Storm, I spun one of his chimeras that was near an objective so that it was over 3” away from it.

Here I am in Game #4 against 4 Eldar skimmers

I think I have a chance at beating almost all Mech armies.

Blackmoor pretty much admitted of being worried about a full mech IG army (Shep's army) and pulled out the tie. It doesn't appear to be an optimized Eldar army, yet seemed to do well in a no comp, 60 person tourney.

As I said on the Adeptus Arizona site, all you have to do is name the time and the place.

Will you play your Drop Podding Wolves, or are you going to build an army made to beat mine?

Well, I'd have alot of lascannons and plasma guns that would be less than optimal against Blackmoor's built but I would definately love the challenge. The more I look at his list, the better I think it is. Blackmoor's army is well balanced and very versatile. He has alot of redundant capabilities and all his weaponary can move and fire, allowing him to maneuver on objectives without trading away firepower (and its not like cover was plentiful on those tournament boards anyway ).

Blackmoor, if you are ever in the Killeen/Austin Texas area after January 1st, let me know. I will gladly take up your challenge and will definately be playing a non-tailored, take all comers list. I have a nickname of "Hugger's Bane" to defend.

most likely I'll be using a refined all-comers list.. I don't think I had a bad showing that weekend considering I'd never used the book and had a untested list, which turned out to be lousy anyway.

I should be in Austin for the next BolsCon. Whenever there is a large 5 game GT style tournament I might be there. My next stop should be at Conquest in Seatle in Jan.

I played your Mech Salamanders at the last RTT how did that go for you? But I am interested to see how my army fares against certain matchups.

I am available for a game this weekend at Game Empire if you want to play.

I'll be able to play after the outpost team tournament.. I have to finish painting, I guess its required.

What do you want to test your army against? I can build just about anything with my collection if there is a specific matchup you have in mind for practice.

Good job! I always look forward to your posts, i was wondering, why did the darmon player deepstrike close enough to mishap and be gunned down when he had the cover of darkness. I knew you had that game won the second, I saw 3 soul grinders. Keep beating net lists and people who claim you just have easy foes!

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Anyway good battle report. I'm suprised some were worried about the soulgrinders. An avatar could take them out easily. A wraithlord even easier. I'm suprised he took 3, i thought that would be over-expensive. How many pts are they??
