[img] Hey IG fans as I said, here is my Masali 1st army. I am still working on it and I will give updates on this post as I go but here is the background story and some basic info:

Background
The Masali 1st(I don’t know if anyone else has made a regiment under this name) is a single regiment formed by a rejected/outcast Cadian 475th Lieutenant Drakos Sandstorm. After a severe and somewhat bloody argument between Sandstorm and the Colonel of the Regiment; Julius Helldog, Sandstorm was dumped on the imperially uninhabited world of Masali. Sandstorm was attacked by a clan of evil sun orks and was almost mauled to death before a tribesman called Scruff Typhoon saved his life.
Drakos soon became aware of a war between the two major tribes of the planet; the ‘Nirophets and the Kanna’. Little were the two warring tribes (Typhoon is Nirophet) aware that a massive ork invasion was about to hit the planet. In haste, Sandstorm rounded up the two hateful tribes and salvaged equipment from a failed pre-M38 purging of the planet by a cadian regiment. The tribes grudgingly cast aside their differences to face the oncoming threat. For years, the orks invading and for years they were battered back by the fierce tribal alliance.
After the war, all was thought to be over and the tribes began fighting again. This was when another invasion was launched but this time, by imperial forces. The Colonel Julius Helldog, hellbent on revenge made planet fall on the planet. Sensing the presence of Daemon, a nearby Daemonhunter Chapter of the Regal Axes came to the doomed regiment’s assistance. The inquisitor of the Regal Axes smited and purged the incoming battle fleets of the amassed possessed Cadians.
The Masali regiment was then officially apologized to by the High Lords of Terra and the rejected officer was offered the rightful position of Colonel of the Masali 1st.
Masali now responsible for recruiting storm troopers and have earnt a reputation for good shots and unpeaceable reconnaissance skill.

More info:
Preferred Heavy Weapon: Heavy Bolter
Preferred Special Weapon/s: Sniper rifle and Hot-shot Lasgun
Standard Issue Weapon: Lasgun M41 Masali Pattern

I used some space marine parts for conversions (basic most though) like this sergeants head and pistol is from the SM scout box

I got some of my ideas from:
http://techpriest.blogspot.com/2009/03/easy-imperial-guard-weapon-conversions.html

I am planning on adding the following:
- Chimera APC
- Cadian Karaskin Box (10 man)
- Another Sentinel to form a squadron
- Infantry Squad (10 man)
And I am in the process of making:
- Command Squad
- Unique desert style guardsman Marbo

Please feel free to comment and take the ideas to make a unique regiment.

Here is commander Drakos Sandstorm: His head is modelled out of a normal cadian sergeant head with hair sculpted on it and his backpack is a normal heavy weapon team backpack with a bolter greenstuffed on.

very nice! the desert camo theme is very effective!

those 2 sentinels hiding in the corner look nice; can we get a couple of close ups?

The white paint and the black sash on the right breastplate on the sergeant is to indicate rank.
For junior officers, it is white paint with a black cross.
I am still working out what it will be for my company commander.

I am a huge fan of that colour scheme, it was my second choice to the one that I eventually chose for my IG. Could we maybe get some close-ups of the rank and file?

Bomber, you should actually read my background, there are only 31 members in the Regal Axes in total.

But apart from that great pics and minis, you haven't used any of my space wolf heads yet

Also how do you paint dark skin?

Super, super-awesome work. I really like your infantry, especially the sergeant's badge. Have you thought of picking out the aquilas on the heavy weapons shields, helmets, lasguns and chest armour in a contrasting colour, however? Maybe bleached bone, dheneb stone or similar? This sort of thing:

Yeah... I havn't really got around to it yet but I will when I get time. Lifes pretty hectic right now . But thanks for the tip.

To paint dark skin you mix scorched brown with skull white and paint it on. After that touch up with pure scorched in order to cover up the inconsistent parts. You can vary the mix of skull white and scorched to creat a darker brown or a lighter brown. Dont go too light though otherwise the guy will have white streaks across his face

Look at some of my models to see the examples of this. I will try to post a closeup of a black guy soon.

Another way to paint dark skin is to use Dark Flesh paint and a Dark Brown ink wash over the top. I'm slightly disappointed that you've gone for such a regular look to your guys with the background..........But then again I really like proper tribal armies!

What do you guys think I should add out of these two
- unique desert style guardsman marbo
- Converted Master of Ordnance

Both!!! The more models the better I'd prioritise the Master of Ordnance though. For Desert Marbo I'd be tempted with a Crocodile Dundee look or maybe a Native Tribesmen/Indian Tracker look rather than the more common but still cool kitted up techy special forces veteran!

When I was thinking about how to do guardsman marbo, I came across this site about Warmachine and Hordes:http://privateerpress.com/hordes/gallery
I looked at the models and found a mage hunter commander I might be able to convert into marbo. And also, do you have any ideas for names for my unique guardsman marbo? Feedback gladly accepted

and sorry, the picture is a bit dodgy but you can see the main model

I know I havn't posted anything in a while but in that time I have been working on my command squad. In this post, there are pictures of various members of the command squad. To commemorate the completion of the squad, I have written a short paragraph of background story on each of the members of the command squad except for the commander. I am also very fond of my sentinels because they have single handedly killed 5 swooping hawks and 2 halequins in combat (one was immobilzed before blowing up). Here's the background...

HQ Command Background
Plasma Gunner Magnum:
Once a lowly guardsman in platoon 1, infantry squad 2 until one time in the defence of Ta-sharock when his squad and a grey knight were ambushed by a pack of khorne flesh hounds. Everyone but him in his squad got ripped apart by the bloodthirsty wolves as well as Regal Axe grey knight Farabar being seriously wounded. He famously picked up the wounded grey knight, slung him over his sholders and made the run with the massive 200kg space marine on his back all the way back to the main base. In recognition to his great deed, the Regal Axe Grey Knight bestowed the power of a sun into the hands of the wounded but alive Guardsman. His tale lives on in the regiment today and inspires determination in his men.
Medic Shandor:
A saver of countless lives but one notable save was when the sentinel sergeant Hassam got shot in the gut. The shooting of his gut left the other members of the squadron wondering what to do and potentially leaving them out for sniping. The medic fearlessly climbed up onto the sentinel and took command while he was tending to the wounded pilot. Now a veteran of many battles, he continues to save lives in the name of the Emperor.
Eradar and Ray:
The two men in the whole army who prove the most crucial when bringing down tough targets. Eradar and Ray are both brothers of the same tribe. While Eradar Takes aim to bring down the targets, Ray is preparing rounds, 10 to a second. Even with the heavy, singular shot lascannon, the pair get more than 100 shots in per minute. A notable event in their careers was when they shot down the spearhead of speed (Evil Sunz) during the battle to save their planet. The spearhead consisted of 10 trucks, 3 battlewagons, 3 warbuggies and countless bikes. By the time the spearhead hit the lines, it was down to a singular truck and a couple of bikes.
Galnik:
The vox master. He was chosen in haste as the previous vox caster got slaughtered in combat during the planetary defence against the orks. ‘He is like a future probe; he can predict my every order. Sometimes, it is not necessary to inform him’ –Commander Drakos Sandstorm- Battle for Masali.

I am purchasing yet another infantry box on the weekend and will have it posted up soon so keep tuned.
Please comment and I am open to any suggestions.
