They look pretty good, only thing I do not like is that they are a little to dark all over

Agreed. Depending on what you used to paint them, go back in with a 50:50 mix of the chosen metal and a lighter metal (Boltgun:Chainmail), to highlight the metal. Also, go in with a 50:50 mix of the chosen bronze with Chainmai as well. Then, highlight the final steel areas with Mithril silver and the other areas with a mix of bronze and Mithril Silver.

That should help them pop. Also, put a few more coats of yellow down. Mix some brown in first, coat it up, then start progressively adding yellow and removing the brown. Then, start adding something to lighten parts of the yellow, for a highlight on that color.

Consider going bestial brown -> 50:50 brown/bone -> bone -> 50:50 bone/white -> highlight white for the skulls.

Simple, easy to do and pretty effective. You can get into glazes and feathering and whatnot, if you are so bold.

That should give you a much better look on the tabletop without too much work involved.

thanks for the comments. I'll have to try some of those tips em_en_oh_pee.

my lighting wasnt the best either, so that helps make them look darker, but I intend to brighten them up a bit.

here is how I painted them to this point:

black primer -> heavy drybrush of boltgun metal
dwarf bronze on all the trim
2 coats dessert yellow, followed by 1 or 2 coats of vellejo light yellow on the striping
dessert yellow followed by white on the skulls
vellejo flat red for the eyes
once that was all done, black wash the whole model. highlight where needed.

They look good to me. I think the lighting in the pics is definitely a major factor in the 'dark" comments and also the black bases.

What do you have planned for basing? I think if you go with a lighter basing it will contrast nicely with the figs. Maybe a real light gray urban type lookor even desert type yellows, etc. Snowy bases would be a nice change of pasce for IW also as most people do some variation of urban/industrial/rubble for them...

Regardless, nice detailing and I think they look nice as a group.

What else do you have planned for this force and how big are your plans for it point-wise at this point?

thanks king. I'm definately going for 3' distance table standard, I dont need all the bells and whistles.

I'm not sure what I am doing for basing yet. I was thinking urban, but who knows.

I'm making a 2k list to start.

HQ-
Warsmith (termie w/combi-bolter and deamon weapon)(the one shown in the pics will be my non-termie lord)

Elites-
10 termies (chaos glory, 2 reapers, 4 lightning claws, 1 power fist, 1 chain fist).
Drednaught (multi-melta/missile launcher)
Drednaught (Plasma cannon/ missile launcher)

Troops-
10 CSM (Chaos glory, Asp champ[combi-melta, powerfist, melta bombs], chaos glory, melta, flamer)
10 CSM (Chaos glory, Asp champ[combi-melta, powerfist, melta bombs], chaos glory, melta, flamer)
10 CSM (Chaos glory, Asp champ[combi-melta, powerfist, melta bombs], chaos glory, 2meltas)
All 3 in Rhinos with havocs and extra armor

Heavy-
Defiler (standard with havoc)
Defiler (Twin Las cannons, havoc)

comes out to 2k

alternate list makes the lord in power armor with deamon wpn, plasma pistol, combi-melta, and melta bombs.
take out the termies and replace them with 9 chosen (Chaos glory, asp champ [power fist, melta bombs], 4 melta guns, in a rhino (as above troops)
add a pred with HB sponsons

comes out to 2002
