Starting this blog to chart the rise of my Angry Marine RT chapter. Also any other RT era models.

Having painted up a test fig in a yellow scheme.

I've moved on to one of my old RT marines, stripped in Cellulose thinners, and primed with Halfords grey primer.

Now I wanted to try and make the colour richer and more vibrant, so rather than use Tausept Ochre as a base by itself, I've mixed a colour with a more orange hue from Tausept Ochre and Fiery Orange in a 2:1 mix.
This will be highlighted up to Golden Yellow for the final coat, leaving the orange as the deep shadow.

More pics to follow as I progress.

That is going to be excellent.....no pressure. As a RT lover myself its nice to see some old school marines being painted.

Nice stuff. I notice you've used the plastic marine backback instead of the original metal ones. I've got about 40 RT Marines and almost no backbacks either! Though I have a lot of plastic backpacks too. They are regularly sold on eBay without backpacks. Is there some kind of massive shortage? I've always wondered about this.

No pressure at all!

I have two squads of 10 to paint, plus some ancillaries.
Then I'll hunt down some armour and dreds.

I have a few Eldar and Orks to do as well, so they have someone to fight. All using RT and Compendium rules.

Old Skool rools!

Not all of the RT code Marines came with metal backpacks, plus they were phased out when the Tactical squad box came out.

I think really its the smallest part of the model, and the most likely part to get lost in the intervening 20-odd years. I've managed to get some on the sprue RT01 backpacks, and I'm vaugely considering casting them so I have enough for all my Marines.

You ought to cast them en masse so no RT marine ever goes backpack-less again.

I didn't realise they were phased out, makes sense in light of the rarity of them. I have just the one unpainted metal backpack spare and have also, ahem, considered recasting.

I could get away with 'personal use', I reckon GW might have a problem if I started selling them.

They certainly won't be recasting them, they may not even have the moulds.

Thats true, but even so I'd rather not be on the sticky end of GW's legal team.

Oh certainly, I was referring to personal use not resale. Anyway, I'll keep watching. Got any vehicles to go with them? I should clean up my RT landraider one day. It's been repainted many times over the years and looks a bit of a mess but all the parts are there I think.

Unfortunately no vehicles for the marines.
I might have a robot hidden away somewhere, I may find it soon as I'm in the middle of moving, other than that I'll have a punt around ebay.

Do have a 4 arm Ork Dred sat in the stripping jar though
Plus I know I have a War Walker and a Eldar Dreadnought in a box in the loft.

First wash added. I can start going up instead of down for a while now. My messy painting techniques in action.
Is this a good size for an image? so many different forums have different standards.

On a side note, does anyone recognise the model in the attached image?

I was figuring out which ones I needed to keep an eye out for, when I couldn't locate one of my figures in the Blue Catalogue.

A bit of digging found this.
He appears for the first time in the 1990 winter trade catalogue, in blister no 070145/5. Then promptly disappears from every catalogue after that. Info garnered from The Stuff of Legends
Did they damage the mould?

I've had to pack up all my minis :(

My minis lived in boxes for three months while I moved house recently, but it can be good to take a short break.

I hope you get a painting area sorted soon so we can see the RT goodness!

Yeah s.j.mccartney I should have space for a second desk! More space to model and paint. I'll probably be painting again before everything else is unpacked.

Tim: Indeed, although due to the younger players at my local club, I'll probably need to tone down the offensive material painted on their armour. More along the lines of KIL KIL KIL than **** you!

Tekk: I'll be humping boxes desks and other furniture up a staircase. Painting hunched over a desk will probably be a welcome relief!

I have been trying to come up with a semi comical saying to paint on the front of my second vindicator. the first one will be "front toward enemy" and i just think i may use "have a nice day" on the other one. thanks for the idea!

I have that marine somewhere in my collection back in England.

Wasn't there some similar pose with a beak helmet too?

Vladsimpaler: I shall endevour to find a suitable model to paint it on. If anyone else has any humourous sayings that they can think of, and would look wrong on a codex chapter, post them here and I'll see if I can add them.

Short and sweet would be best.

DeadestDai: Which one? The black and white catalogue image, or the one I'm painting? Although I've bounced through the catalogue and can't see a beakie that looks like either of them. ??

Should I? hmm? Should I?

Turned up in the post today, backpacks for possible casting, enough parts to make two beakies, and some weapons to fix two models I got in a job lot.

One guy had a hand flamer cut off with the gripping hand left empty, and another had it replaced with a heavy bolter the guy was apparently firing one handed!

Those sprues turned up today Tekk. Just trying to figure out how I should butcher them.

HalloweenBomber. They have a background, its on 4chan, never ever go there.

Here is the least offensive image that illustrates the basic premise of the Angry Marines.

Mine will be a little tamer, due to some kids at my local club. Though I'll probably make some proper ones out of my old unfinished 3rd ed marines that will never see the light of day here.

The problem with having nothing to paint but reading material available.
I might drop the whole Angry Marines thing for the RT models, maybe leave it for the 3rd ed ones.

I keep looking at the Badab War pages in the Compendium, some of the schemes are calling to me.

Seriously considering hosting my WIPs on my Photobucket account.

Due to people leaving stupid comments on images and voting on WIPs, I really don't see the point in that.

Ok so definately not doing Angry Marines with these guys.
Kinda funny when I first found em. But I think They deserve a lttle more respect as figures. I'm leaning towards the Mentors (old style badge), or one of the chapters from the Badab war.
If the book wasn't a mile down the road, in a box under another box, I'd probably find it easier to work out which one I want to do.
Should be packing to move, is actually sat trying to decide what colour to paint his little metal army men.

I can sympathize with the stupid comments, however I cannot see anything but dakka stuff at work and i am sure im not the only one. As soon as i get to a post that the OP doesnt host on dakka i dont even continue because there is no point. I won't be able to see any of it anyway. But that is just me and the other folks with ridiculous internet restrictions at work.
