So after having finished our necromunda table, I've started to work on a mordheim table. So far I've gotten two buildings modelled, and awaiting sand and painting, any ideas for more building would help, I'm prolly going to make a tavern, and a lot of one story houses, but any fresh ideas would be great.

The really interesting part is that both of those buildings cost me about $2 to build

Looking very cool. I suggest some of those beams that jut out from the outside of the building? What the heck are those called? I think they are mostly ornamental. That, and some wacky little dormers that stick out of the top of the roof. Something to really give them some unusual shapes.

Are you going to do other little things to fill the courtyards and alleys? Piles of crates/barrels, a water well, Chapel with bell, haycart, workshed, street signs, stocks, animal pens, etc.? I love those little details and they work great with a detail-oriented game like Mordheim.

Thanks for the cool list of ideas blackbone! I hadn't even though of about half of them, and it'll make the table look a lot better! I'll most likely do everything on the list but a chapel, we have one for Flames of War that everyone hates, and though I'm getting better at scratch building, I don't know that I'm ready to take on extreme angles like on the steeple/bell tower of a chapel.

Oh, and I'm not quite sure what you mean by "some of those beams that jut out from the outside of the building", the only thing I can think of is pillars/support beams

Oh, and one of the things I'm trying to do with the terrain is make the game more tightly packed and fast paced, so I'm trying to avoid a lot of windows on buildings. You'll notice on both buildings that there are walls with no windows on either the top or the bottom floor. This is to try to prevent the game turning into a long range shooting battle, since that's what a lot of mordheim games become. However, when the building your in can be flanked, close combat warbands can still make it into close combat

Maybe you could do some shuttered or boarded-up windows? I dunno.

Ah ha! Google luck! Here's some good pics on wiki of some things that sprang to mind. Sorry, not good at the helpful linking:

Another crazy thing I have wanting to see is a big town clock with figures that move around like a little show a few times a day:
http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Switzerland/Kanton_Bern/Bern-692592/Things_To_Do-Bern-Clock_Tower-BR-1.html

Some good examples there, although that would be a pretty big project. Luckily you could buy a cheap old clock and use a lot of the pieces for it, along with some empire and daemon models!

Damn, now I'm all excited about building something.

Update: Well I had some more time today so I got around to working on another building. This started out as my "dummy" building to test out single story homes, and then I built stairs..... and then I thought, well, the stairs have to lead to somewhere (Although I did think about the top floor just being destroyed, as it is mordheim), so it eventually led to this..... the first floor is pretty much done, with the second floor needing quite a bit of work, and then it needs some sort of roof.... So far I've spent $8 total on all three buildings.

You're off to a pretty good start. Though I would recommend, in order for it to be more playable, destroy some of the walls on the other side of the 2nd floor too.

I like the urban wrecked fantasy feel about it! Are the wooden parts ordinary popsicle sticks? Looking good! I would love to see them painted

I thought about destroying the walls, but decided instead to add more windows and make the roof have holes in it.

Yup, the wooden parts are "popsicle sticks", although they're special ones cut in streight lines that I picked up from home depot for $1.50 for 75 of them.

Got some work done tonight at the club house while the other guys played flames of war, also got 3 guys to say they'd be willing to try out mordheim, mainly due to the terrain I was building, so "if you build it, they will come" actually worked.

In some of the pictures, two of the buildings are really close together, I assure you, they are not connecting, I was just using one of the buildings to prop the roof of the other building up so I didn't have to hold it while the glue dried.

Those are some nice bildings. Question: why extend the bases outward?

The bases got extended outward for 2 reasons. First, it makes knocking the buildings over when you're reaching over the table to move models harder. Second, it allows for rubble to be placed around the building, providing more cover and generally adding "cool factor"

The first painted building... still needs some detail work done, like the wood and such, and apparantly I can only get good pictures out of my camera during daylight hours....

I find Mordheim to be a really great game, but the thing that makes it great is a fantastic gaming board. You sir are well on your way to getting that done.

Keep up the great work!

Here's some more work done on the second building, I've got to figure out how I want the wood to look, and then it'll be done
