Just put a FoR together.
Fits halfway acceptable, so I may only need to add some details.

So which coloring would look good at this fortress?

- the example on the box : grey + metals + brown flooring? ( not sold on it, floor looks like a wooden deck )
- more greenish ? ( since these sculptures are DA that much..)
- more brownish ? ( not sure how the sculptures and skulls would look like then..)

I have nothing against grey. Could also do a very dark green or a sandy brown.

Would appreciate your input.

Pics of the parts to get ready and paint:

Cool, thanks for the view of the model in the wild. I was wondering, would a set of Bastion walls fit into the base of the tower instead of the giant angel facades?

You should paint it with blue and red stripes overlaid with neon green polka-dots.

QFT... Definitely try and paint it to your armies color scheme... Just make the statue carving either dark green, black, or white...

Paint it like you would a cement building and add different colours for the decorative parts. Mostly gold though, for the angel wings white and make the cloak a dark colour to stand out a bit. Then put the symbol of your chapter around the place to show that it belongs to your chapter. I think it should look as fancy as that shrine they release for the SM recently, I think it was called Shrine of the Aquilla or something like that.

The black/green/grey/purple/sandy brown/lightning blue should cover all main colors.
So most may be either black or green....with a few others.

The bastions base is bigger than the FoR towers base. The bastion walls would fit on top, just have those gunports stand out a bit. Should be possible with some plasticard.

So statues benefit from either beiing darker or brighter. Now with more details I would try to have it stand out,
but as is, not sure if the statue should be the main attraction of the tower.

Could do a ferrocrete color.

The Shrine is just a big aquila, but the fortress has more going on, would like to keep the statues a main spot but
still not overshadowing everything else.
But nice find. The towers upper part is as high as the Shrines walls.
Must think of the possible combos.....

I plan on using mine as a "generic" Imperial building (Arbites Precinct, IG Command Bastion) and NOT as a Dark Angel Fortress.

With that in mind, I plan to paint it in a grey color similar to cast concrete. Even the angel will be cast concrete ... along with the oversized skulls. Then I'll go back in and pick out some details in a metallic accent (where it makes sense - I have to see the pieces up close and personal). Finally, I'll add some weathering, rust and soot, and call it "done".

BTW, where is the entrance to this beast? I can't see a door anywhere? Also, can it be built any other way or is there not other option than what we've seen (other than massive conversion work)? I like the thought of two mirrored to create an entrance or gateway to a city.

The main entrance is a piece with one side straight and the other fitting to the lower walls.
It will be alongside the tower ( if following the instructions ). Should be not too hard to move it somewhere else.
Those lower oktagons are composed of up to 8 single walls ( 3 designs = 12 pieces ), so both oktagons are identical
until you attach the adapter to the ramps. I think the connecting lower walkway will be the main conversion if you try
to mirror 2 FoR.

Seems standard grey is the common choice.

I think brighter gray statues with moss against darker gray (but avoid shocking contrast) walls. The walls could also be done with a greenish hue. Not Minas Morgul green but something evocative of that brooding DA mentality.

Something like . . .

I think i may have à Solution:

- roughcoat for Structure
- airbrush Fine layer of à black-green
=> done
- "raise" the statues with à brighter grey
- spray some " moss " (As suggested, thanks)
- put only à few metallics on ( tech,bolters)

could this work?

Ps: apologies for all the à in my posts. Damn inbuilt spelling Subroutine of the phone.

I've been looking at painted pics of the fort for a while now. This model is a bit frustrating because it's obviously supposed to represent metal surfaces. That might frustrate the stone/moss idea, even with roughcoating, barring some extensive and clever conversion. You could go for an ancient oxidized copper look:

and then keep the brighter metallic trims a la the studio's example (albeit with the brightness toned down some). If so, I'd go with browner, more parchment-colored skulls at the bases of the angels while still trying to achieve some kind of contrast between brighter angels and darker walls. Did you want to keep a contrast between angels' robes and wings like in the studio example? Or monochromatic angels?

I'll use less metallic colors than the examples.
Mostly a building of à dark stone, with brighter adds
( the wings, the skulls ) and only the weapons painted As clean as
should be ( function leads to service leads to absence of rust ).
Black wash for muzzles.
Bright warning colors for launch-bay and warheads.

A worn metallic look for the floors.

Details of the walls may just get highlighted a bit per drybrush.

Should look somehow inspired from the DA Legion banner.

copper wouldn't be use dbyt he imeprium even as a artisic unless they preserved it in which case it wouldn't get oxidised, cause i tlel you one thing copper and oxide and indeed Bronze Disease (the Bronze opposte) really do weaken and warp the amterial

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

An off white weathered marble kind of thing could look epic. There's some tutorial on here on painting bone and the like that could give that sort of look.

Marble is a fine idea but really more for good painters...

Got some basic paint done.
Dark black green for the walls and tank grey for the floors.
Launch bay also received its first colors.

Need those x-mas holidays to speed up the work.

the skulls look pretty good, as does the robe and sword. however, I cannot get behind the blue wings. I have a friend who plays dark angels, and he paints wings in his army with codex and fortress gray and then highlights with white or a 50 50 white gray mix (not sure exactly which). Personally, I would change the blue wings to something more like that, but that is just my 2 cents. Also, I cannot tell from the picture, but the scroll wrapped around the sword seems to be a metallic paint. If it is, I would change it to bleached bone, if it isn't then i would still change it to be more parchment colored, but a gray would also be acceptable.

Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.

The wings may not be that blue in real, shadow grey/granite grey tend to blue but this effect in the pic is a
drawback of taking it in the evening. Should use daylight for the next pics...

Still agree, white is the usual base of DA wings.
The blueish grey just blended nicely with the black green, so gave it a try.
Will try something grey/white on another side of the tower to compare it right on the subject.

Also, the same problem ( time ) hits the scroll. Its a tank grey in the shadows, with codex grey as main color, drybrushed with fortress grey and a few highlights in bleached bone. Could benefit from a scripture.

I think i keep the robes and the skulls as set.
Scroll and sword may stay as is too.
The other parts may see a different painting.

Lets hear if one of two variants is what I shall go for.

FoR / sunlight

- skull white highlights

So, V1 or V2 of the wings?

Hope you all like the "angels" ...

Couldn't resist to try again something different to standard grey.
The "eagles" in a blue grey may suit the fortress, yes?
