Subject: Cyborg's INQ28 WIP (Pic Heavy) - UPDATED 1-21-10

Hi there; been a lurker for a bit, but decided it was time I posted something. I play both WHFB and 40k, but Inquisitor was the one game I managed to ensnare all of my friends into playing. While the 54mm Inquisitor models were fabulous, it was alot easier to simply use 28mm models and convert them. I supplied all of my friends with fully painted models representing their characters. But as Inquisitor is an evolving game, older characters would die or retire, and my friends would roll up new ones. And also, while some of my friends may still use the same characters, many models that are available now were not available at the time we started.
So, long story short, I've made a new batch of Inquisitor characters for my friends and myself. Constructive criticism welcome.
Inquisitor Nostradame: Ordo Hereticus.
Closeup of her combi-flamer:
Inquisitor Vallen: Ordo Malleus.
Closeup of his archaic bolter:
Enforcer Omar: Adeptus Arbites.
Val'ton: Eldar Rogue.
Sergeant Stromm: Imperial Guard Specialist.
Phaedra Volkov: Ex-Imperial Stormtrooper. This one is my favorite out of all of them. Composed out of 23 different parts, it was also the most complex.
She was the lone survivor of a mission gone wrong, and survived alone for several years; hence the rag-tag look with tons of gear on her back.
A small selection of painted models, also for INQ28. These are roughly 3-4 years old, due to the fact that going away to college killed my painting time.
I also do not like how the matte spray varnish I used appears in these pictures; it makes the models look much more...gritty...than they actually are.
Sister-Inquisitor Robin: Witch Hunter, along with her wolf companion Sirius.
Inquisitor Kerlain: Ordo Malleus.
Auron: Sanctioned Psyker.
Astaroth: Arco-Flagellant Beserker.
Krash the Skulltaker: Alien Bounty Hunter.
And a more recent 40k sometimes INQ28 model: Imperial Guard Sergeant.

Indeed! I have my own INQ28 blog (currently sliding down the first page at the moment) and so I'm keen to see other peoples' ideas. Some very powerful characters there, but also some very neat conversions. I'd love to see some of the older characters if you have them around!

Thanks! I discovered your excellent blog about a month ago while searching for conversion ideas. Once I get around to taking pics of them I'll post some of the older characters.

Thanks; Phaedra is my favorite too! And I will be posting another character once I get my GS abilities back on track: A female Rogue Trader.

I like the rogue trader! Great combination of bitz.
However, you might want to mix up the weapons a bit, because right now it "reads" eldar due to the torso, weapons, and head all being elf-y.
You could switch either the pistol or the sword for something more imperial, and I think it would add to the effect.
Also, if you are up to it, adding epaulets and braiding would add to the "rogue trader" feeling.

Awesome work. Mind sharing what bitz you used for both Val'ton, the eldar rogue, and Ella Rackham. I can pick out a few pieces but would like to know the whole recipe. Keep up the great conversions!

Thanks for the feedback!
Ella pretty much uses only alien weapons in the first place (one of the few characters with no qualms about it!). I think I might add some bits to the pistol so it's not just a shuriken pistol, but something more interesting. I think the major elfy part is the head too; I'm going to either round out the ears or sculpt some new hair to fix that...eventually when I feel like it.
Also, something like Imperial Navy medals or heraldry or something might work, as I think sculpting epaulets is currently beyond me. I'll have to take a look at the IG Command Squad sprue I have lying around; lots of great bits on there.

Thanks!
Val'ton is composed of various parts from the Glade Guard sprue, with some minor cuts. Ella's torso and sword are from the Eldar Harlequin Troupe Master, the legs are from a Callidus Assassin, and the head is also from the Glade Guard sprue.

Thanks for the feedback!
At the time most of these minis were painted, I just began venturing into layering and highlighting, and I did not use washes. I'm fairly certain my painting skills are up to the task currently. Now I just have to go through all my paints to see which ones are not dried up...

Ah, those Callidus legs go very well with the Eldar stuff. I guess I need to take a longer look at some of the Fantasy ranges.
I agree that a few small changes to the head could make her look much more human and less elven.

Update: In the my Inquisitor campaign, the PCs crash land on an Eldar Crone World trapped inside the Warp. The world has long been devastated since the Fall of the Eldar and was reduced to an arid deathworld, composed mostly of windswept deserts and crags. But the PCs were not the first to become trapped on this planet, nor was the planet uninhabited. The survivors must put aside their prejudices and former beliefs if any of them are to escape the planet, provided they can survive long enough.
Some NPCs:
"Mac," a former guardsman and the defacto head of a small settlement the PCs frequent. Mostly parts from the Cadian Command Squad sprue save for the legs, which are Dark Elf, and the cigar that I added.
Nizoni, a member of the indigenous race that inhabits the planet. Torso and head are from the plastic Daemonettes, arms and weapons from Dark Elf Spearmen, horns from the Beastman sprue.
More natives. It is fairly obvious that they were mutated by the powers of Chaos, which causes problems for an Inquisitor who might need their help... Female models composed of roughly the same parts as above; males are obviously Chaos Beastmen. Not 100% pleased with how my GS work turned out, but the crappiness will be concealed once I paint them.
But seriously...we should petition GW to have the plastic Daemonettes get their left boobs back.
Something that was somewhat of a challenge was dealing with the daemonette heads that had the crazy flowing hair. I could not simply glue horns on the side of their heads like I did with the first two. So I took out my pin vise and experimented with drilling some tiny holes where I wanted the horns to go. The crazy thing is that it worked almost too well. It not only helped to conceal the fact that the horns were not originally part of the head, but also helped the hair to accommodate the horns. Huge difference from the first two, and ultimately much better looking.
