I just received my Oni Army Box and Samurai Samedi Hero Box in the mail and opened them up...

I COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED. Perhaps the venture capitalists who bought out Rackham and took the reigns know what they're doing??

The molds are great, I'm not really seeing mold lines. If you know your way around a brush you could detail these things right up. It's amazing how it took me going back to 40K and starting at huge piles of unassembled models, or assembled and unprimed models, to learn to appreciate AT-43 pre-paints in general...but this Oni stuff is fantastic.

The zombies all have nice washes/inkings on them to really bring out the texture of their gross zombie flesh. Samurai Samedi has some nice inking work as well. I don't think I need to touch these up at all to be satisfied with them.

The vehicles are FANTASTIC. And making the turrets removable is just awesome - if you have a Light Enforcer you can take the turret from that, take off the Graser turret from the Medium Destroyer from the Army Box, and now you can run a Medium Enforcer and have your first troop transport.

This Army Box is epic win. I am SO glad I decided to take another look at AT-43 when they promised me zombies with guns...and also glad it was Christmas time and I had nothing else to ask for such that everyone buying me presents are all getting me AT-43 and I'll wind up with all six armies and not having paid for 80% of it myself.

Let's hear what other people think specifically about the miniatures.

I haven't seen the ONI except for promo pics, but I just got my Red Blok starter army and it's for the most part very impressive. Now I want some Kollossus so that I can work on my "Thud thud thud" sound effects.

Awesome army box and with a merc force available to anyone (its also a smart business decision) everyone can use something from Oni in their army build ...I'm really looking forward to the exciting mixed army builds this latest box will bring to the table.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I like the vehicles but not what the represent.

I will be using my Vlad hull as a Medium Destroyer with the Destroyers turret. a machine gun on the Destroyer hull to make that a Medium Enforcer and the Vlad turret on a plastic tank to make Vlad/Heavy tank.

I see two medium vehicles and no heavy so I will make my own heavy with a real tank chassis. The question is which kit and which scale.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Orlanth, I'd suggest a modern 1/48 scale French Design(it's been confirmed on the AT-43 boards that the current ONI vehicles are based on a real French Military IFV).

Perhaps the Leclerc MBT.

I second that...

...If possible a comparison shot with a Chimera, that would be nice.

I will take a look at this. I definately want my Heavy Tank to have tracks. Also the chassis design for the Medium Destroyer is very clearly an APC whereas the other vehicles is the same size but is not. Calling them both mediums makes a lot of sense the more I see it.

I will likely get casemate turrets from Old Crow for my Medium Enforcer conversions. The graser turrets of course going on the supposed *** hulls. I don't want the the Old Crow chassis, because they are 25mm and not 28+ needed. They are nice casts though.

The miniatures themselves are excellent, and as far as prepaints go, they are nicely done. I also very much like the Medium Destroyer and Heavy Battletank that come with it. They are nice models

However, I would have preferred that they offered MAX size of the units will all options available. Perhaps I am asking for too much.

You get:

1 Sniper Lady and her Heavy Battletank = 1 complete max unit

3 Zombie Tac Arm Alphas = 1 complete max unit

8 Zombie Detonators = 1 complete min unit (max unit is 12)

1 Medium Destroyer = 1 complete max unit

and a mess of Zombie Elites that really don't make sense. You get 12 of these Elites which are 2 Leaders (orange shoulders), 1 Zombie Master (larger backpack), 1 Zombie Medic (backpack has "servo-arm"), 2 Zombie Special Weapons (equipped with zombie making weapons), and 6 Elite Zombies. A max unit is 12 with 1 Leader, 2 Specialists (either 1 Master and 1 Medic, or 2 Masters, or 2 Medics), 2 Special Weapons, and 7 Elites. I ordered 2 box sets and each came with 2 Leaders...and I have no idea why.

Moreover, you get weapons to turn your opponents into zombies, but you get no additional zombies to represent them.

This is what should have come with the Box Set:

1) Sniper Lady and her Heavy Battletank = 1 max unit
2) 3 Zombie Tac Arms = 1 max unit
3) 12 Zombie Detonators = 1 max unit
4) 14 Zombie Elites = 1 max unit will ALL possibilities
-1 Leader
-2 Masters
-2 Medics
-2 Special Weapons
-7 Zombie Elites
5) X Zombie Contaminators to represent zombies you can make in your opponent's army

IMHO, they should have left out the Medium Destroyer to bring up the Detonators and Elites to max size and given us the additional zombies we need to use this army correctly.

After purchasing 2 box sets, I have the following maxxed units:

1) 1x Sniper Lady with Heavy Battletank
2) 1x Heavy Battletank
3) 2x Medium Destroyers
4) 2x 3 Zombie Tac Arms
5) 1x 12 Zombie Detonators
6) 1x 14 Zombie Elites (max unit 12 with 2 additional to give me all options)

And the following spares:

1) 1 Sniper Lady
2) 4 Zombie Detonators
3) 3 Zombie Elite Leaders
4) 5 Zombie Elites

I have not sorted these into an army list, yet. But I do hope that this helps anyone decide their purchase.

YES!!

Finally some good comparison shots!!

...Could I possibly convince you, good sir, to post a few side/rear/front shots aswell

I have definately found a cool alternate Chimera, now maybe just widen the hull abit, raise the suspension and add a predator turret, hmmm...

For anyone who wants to paint the orange leg-stripes on the Zombie Detonators and Super Zombies (and Baron Samedi if you get him), I used a mixture of like 5 parts Sunburst Yellow and 1 part Blazing Orange and it looks pretty perfect compared to the pictures. Just use the orange shoulder guards on the Super Zombie Officer and Zombie Master and match it up. There are grooves on the legs on either side of where the stripe should go...fill those in first, and that gives you the borders to paint the line over the pouches on the side of the legs. Easy.

I think I'll use Mithril Silver for the belt buckles. Then paint the belts Chaos Black, and then I will probably black magic ink all the Super Zombie guns.

I'm also debating whether to paint all the power packs on the weapons yellow like in the Oni Army Book picture laying out all their weapons. I really like that look.

I got the ONI army box and rule book for a present. As the previous posters have said, I am really liking the Zombie figures and the vehicle sculpts. The only problem I have encountered is with the Vlad tank. The turret will not stay in the vehicle, it is front heavy. I plan on getting some heavy washers tomorrow and gluing them inside the turret to counterbalance it. Has anyone else had this problem?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

There is a tutorial on the AT-43 forums which has a recommended way to do that, with pics.
