For some reason this topic hasn't been overdone to death (like pirates, zombies, vampires, ninjas, etc.). Maybe I'm just doing the wrong Google searches.
Regardless, I'm starting to design a tabletop skirmish / RPG called Dinosaur Cowboys. I've had the idea kicking around for close to a month, so near the end of November I started jotting down ideas and working out a combat system and character sheet and so on.
I'm going to try tracking my progress as I work, since it'll be a nice record later on. If you're interested, or have some awesome comments or ideas, then please check out my new blog thing: http://dinosaurcowboys.wordpress.com/. Plus the Latest Rules for public consumption.
The idea is pretty self explanatory, but I thought I'd share a map of the world you play in, an inspirational piece of art, and my first draft of the character sheet:
I'll try to keep updating with my progress and am open to any feedback as I go, since I haven't really tried a "public development" process before. I'm hoping the whole thing will awesome and a blast to play though to really do justice to the idea.
@The Dreadnote: Oooh you should post them when you're done.
Well I've got early versions of the basic rules, character sheet, and just now the weapons and armor lists (full of sci-fi goodies like 400KW Six-Shooters and plasma throwing Double Barreled Shotguns).
I'm hoping to get some playtesting in next week and fill out the miscellaneous remaining sections of the main rulebook. Then the joyous process of generating a bunch of cool enemies to fight.
(I'll try to stop from spamming this thread with updates though and keep most of it on the blog.)
I just kicked out v0.5, hooray. The main change was finishing the Traits (22 in total, 36 if you include the leveling options for each) and removing the Damage Track mechanism from Dinomounts.
I also have a semi-steady game going which helps for "real world" playtesting...always good for revealing unexpected scenarios and really putting the combat system through the ringer.
Hopefully I can start on a giant "Book O' Enemies" filled with the usual variety of vagrants and vagabonds (ooh that's almost a good name for the book in general) to throw against the characters. But otherwise everything is feature complete and pretty much in the state I want it to be in.
Time to polish and polish and polish, I guess.
(Also I added some Dinomount pictures to the OP...sure they're technically just plastic dinosaur toys, but put them amongst desert terrain and in the middle of a shoot out and you have a rip roaring good time).
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

Although not strictly, cowboys riding dinsaurs, you might want to try to get hold of early copies of the 2000ad comic.
One of the strips was "Flesh" basically cowboys in jeeps rounding up dinosaurs for meat in the future. However, it did feature a nice scifi western settings that may spark an idea or two
I'm working on a battle report / mini-campaign report to give an idea of how the game plays. It's hard to find the time to set it all up though...too bad I don't have a fancy camera crew like GW :(
Besides minor polish to the rules they are pretty much all done now anyways, so updates will slow.
@wilycoyote: I did read through some Xenozoic Tales comics, which sound similar, but I'll have to check out that 2000AD one too. Thanks.
Are you guys using the outlanders rules for the Dinos? Will try to have a proper look when I have more time. For heads that fit 28mm scale stuff I got a load from the Redoubt ACW range, slouch hats if I remember rightly. I have some on elysians in my gallery.
Nope I'm not using any Necromunda (or other skirmish game) related rules, it's all new and all custom to Dinosaur Cowboys. I figured going from the ground up would be more fun than trying to modify an existing ruleset.
