I've heard many people say they think the Dark Eldar army is cool and would play it if they have decent models. However, it's really not that hard to have a Dark Eldar army with beautiful models from other ranges. I'm currently working on converting and painting my Dark Eldar army to use mostly fantasy models. Here are my model ideas so far.

Archon/Dracon - Various Dark Elf Lords work here. I'm using a female Dark Elf queen that is a non GW model but i doubt anyone would notice in a tourney.

Archite/Dracite - Lelith Hesperax is an awesome model so i'm keeping her around

Incubi - One of few DE models i like so the original models make the cut.

Wyches - Witch elves. I cut off one sword and replace it with a splinter pistol. Takes like a minute to do. For the succubi i use the female hydra guards converted with splinter pistols and also the standard bearers from the witch elf command squads. I remove the top of the standard and replace each one with a different end: One spear, one mace, one axe, one polearm ect., to help delineate combat drugs in the various wych squads.

Grotesches - Vampire count Crypt Ghouls are perfect, no conversions needed.

Haemonculi - again vampire counts, i used female lords converted with BT flamethrowers in the place of their swords.

Reavers - I like the models so i am keeping most of them original DE, for a lord on a reaver i am using a Lahmian VC lord with the staff converted to look more like a punisher. Not adding a stupid gun helmet though.

Talos - Hydra with Mallus Darkblade riding it. Mallus loses his sword to be replaced with one of the original talos's splinter cannons.

Raiders - original models with some asdrubael vect models thrown in. I have added some of the original female wych models to the raiders to make them look more populated.

Ravagers - same

Warriors - ok, so i haven't done these conversions yet but have some ideas. I was thinking to do dark elf warriors with splinter weapons, but might look into using corsairs. I'd appreciate suggestions. I'll probably keep using the original DE sybarite models because i like them, as well as the metal dark lance models.

Just have to be careful since some tournys will not let you play if all models are not GW. But other than that it sounds like your army will look cool.

Honestly, I like DE models... excluding warp beasts, they look lame.

I don't know. Everytime I look at the codex the models make me cringe like fingernails on a blackboard.

I've thought about doing that. You can use the Autarch for the Lord, Farseer/Warlocks for Hemoculie, Scorpions for Incubi. For standard squads I'd use Guardians for Warriors, a Dire Avenger for their upgrade leader, Fire Dragon for the special weapon and Dark Reaper for heavy, ect The big problem is making Wave Serpents look open topped.

one of the best DE warrior conversions I have seen is combining the Dark Elf and Eldar Guardians together....use the DE Heads, guardian bodies, either use the shuriken guns and shave the flanges off the barrells, or convert normal dark eldar guns onto them.

You then cut off the little blade/antenna on the guardian back pack wings, and stick on the DE spear blades to look like razor "wing" or ariels and so forth...you can continue using variations on the torso's, blades and such to make the units more hodgepodge...like pirates should be IMO.

I just ordered 60 plastic corsairs so i guess that issue is decided. I've got a ton of painting to do still, maybe ill throw up some pics for the wyches, talos, haemonculi, and grotesces in a day or so. The warriors are going to take a few months for me to convert and paint...

Some of the models look cool. But the Wyches are the worst thing for me. They need less skin exposed...

I use the fantasy hydra as a talos for my army. Although I don't have a rider, I've got gun mounts on each head and I'm working on armouring it up a bit. Anyone who has seen the old Dinorider cartoons knows where I'm aiming it.


And I must be odd, I like quite a lot of the DE models, the wyches in particular. I love that I can have guys prancing around in g-strings and leather straps as well as girls. (I swear, some of my female wyches are more covered... but I want some male eye candy, damnit!)

Your in luck when i post my pics, which i will do soon. I still use the original male wyches for blasters. I green stuffed some bandana masks on some of them though because the facial expression they were making was a bit...odd...

The enemies of the Imperium are many. In an effort to gain intel, Inquisitor Paen has authorized the formation of an Elite force. I liked the Idea of a S3 T3 I5 WS4 BS4 Guardsman.So I made the D ark E ldar L ightning T actics A ssault FORCE. I initially called the lasguns Hellguns and lengthened and converted some to become Splinter cannons for jumppack wearing scourges. SM missile launchers became "sabot equiped Dark Lances" I lengthened some land speeders before the storm came out and called 'em raiders. Some regular speeders were converted to ravagers/ littlebirds, all using guard hvy wpn torsos for pilots. The models got digicam uniforms on cadian figs so they could look like modern soldiers with lasers and lights on the weapons. I bought 60 sentinel drivers heads for the sculpted on goggles. Finally some catachan models stood in for the Wyches/Delta takedown team. Wych weapons were door rams and stun batons. So a light ,fast ,better than guard ws, bs, I, and they were the attacker in most games looking to secure a high-value target.
