Ok, I've been a lurker for about 6 months now. Finally registered just to add this, my first, battle report.
The facts below may be just a bit off. It's from memory about 10 days old.
Each player was asked to bring a legal 1000 point army for a large battle. Victory was basically who was the most killy.

I believe this was the first large game for all of us, so we were all a bit unsure of what to expect. The landscape was a large city, must have been 6x5 or so. Setup was 12" from the edge. All the players from my town on one side and everyone not from our town on the other side. That put Doug, Ian and Kenny with (Space Marines, Space Marines, Orks) across from Dan2, Ben, and Dan1 with (Necrons, Eldar, Tau). The Tau were opposite the Orks. The
SM/Ork side got first move and we didn't try to seize the initiative. With the board being so wide, we'd figure we'd let the other side spend the first turn moving into range.
I'm Dan2, the Necron player (closest right on top picture). My forces consisted of (from memory can't find my sheet):
1 Lord with resurrection orb
5 Destroyers
8 Immortals
6 Scarab Swarms
20 Warriors
Directly across from me, the space marines were sporting a Predator with 3 lascannons and a bolter of some sort, a whirlwind, and a bunch of combat squads and some leaders. Of interest, our neighboring players had another whirlwind on the
SM side and a dark reaper squad in cover on my side. Also, one squad of
SM scouts, with sniper rifles and missile launchers infiltrated into a house overlooking our whole battle area. Though most of the board was a city with plenty of cover, our side was pretty much open. Just a big statue in the center with a low wall that would offer minimal cover.
On the first turn, the
SMs moved up and I believe the predator got off one shot. I believe my guy got his "we'll be back" roll. My first turn I moved everyone up. I believed my destroyers would not be in range of the Predator so I shot down a bunch of eager space marines instead. The dark reapers nailed some more marines. My scarab swarms beelined for the scouts at full speed. On the second turn the
SMs pointed out how dumb I was to bunch my guys up. Not only did I get nailed by two whirlwinds, but one of the
SM players got a direct hit with an orbital bombardment. And of course the predator used all three lascannons this time along with a few shots from missile toting marines. Four destroyers, 10 warriors and two immortals went down. 3 destroyers, 7 warriors and one immortal got back up. My destroyers immobilized and stunned the predator and the scarab swarms engaged the scouts. This pretty much put the scouts out of action for the rest of the game. The predator was also stuck in a way that didn't allow it to bring one lascannon to bear anymore, unless I was dumb enough to walk in front of it. Next turn the
SMs surprised me with a drop pod right on my backside. The drop pod was of course of no concern, but the dreadnought inside was another matter!

I had absolutely nothing that could scratch such a beast in assault. And assault was plainly on its mind. This really screwed me up. I moved everything I could to try and get the best possible shots at it. Fortunately, that included the destroyer squad shooting the thing in the back. The destroyers blew the thing up in one volley. Most everyone else tried to damage the drop pod, to no avail. The immortals might have amused themselves by killing a few more marines. The dark reapers reaped some more marines as well. For most of the rest of the game I moved around a bit, but not aggresively. The
SMs kept their distance and used the whirlwind barrages, lascannons and missile launchers. If the necrons didn't shrug off the wounds they often got back up. I did lose 3 destroyers, maybe 2 immortals and a half dozen warriors. I finally destroyed the drop pod, took out another lascannon on the predator and a few combat squads of marines. The scout squad, down to a single sergeant, broke and ran from four scarab swarms. Unfortunately for the scarabs, the other
SM player had a dreadnought ready to deal with the swarms. It did try, but apparently the poor thing must have had a fear of spiders because it couldn't seem to finish them off (lots of 1s rolled). My destroyers also blew an arm off another dreadnought threatening my allies.
I think the real hot action was mosly on the other side of the table where the Tau, Orks, Eldar and
SMs seemed to get into some violent brawls. On my side it was mostly shooting. I think the
SM player learned to hate the Necron
WBB, especially with my rolls being above average. I learned that even though I can wreck a drop pod with gauss fire, it probably would have been better if I'd run for the middle to add more fire support for my allies.
All in all, it was a reasonably close and fun battle. Everyone was immediately trying to find out when they could get some more action. We all appreciated Adler Hobby for sponsoring the game.
