Ok Dakka my girlfriend has finally admitted to me that she would play a minis game with but it has to be something SIMPLE!! Something that has very simple and easy to understand rules and something that is fast paced.

Any suggestions? Theme wont really matter as long as the minis look good by the by

Mini games are inherently complicated in general...not really sure what to say if 40K doesn't cut it.

Check out my blog at:http://ironchaosbrute.blogspot.com.

Not always the case bit I guess let me be more clear. I know a game that has two rule books just to learn it would be too much because that is what she told me. I realize that all mini games are more complicated but I am thinking something with 40 pages or less of rules would be on the up and up

You could alwas go chess just with PP or GW models, it will then be a miniature game and still be easy, unless thats too complicated.......

But as Iron said, miniature games are complex by nature as they try and convey a sense of realism and fantasy at the same time, with rules reflecting that. So yer, 40k starter packs are about as basic as they come.

Then again there might be something even simpler.

Battletech. Intro rules are free online, and you only need to be able to do very simple math.

You don't even need minis if you don't want them.

If you want dirt cheap, SUPER simple, and stupid fun, try Twilight Creations' Zombies! game.
The rules are printable off of the website. This game (and all 8 of its expansions) is straight out of your typical pulp zombie b-movie. This game would have been a sure-fire favorite of Ed Wood. Each person plays as a human trying to get from point A to safety, all the while trying not to get eaten by an ever-increasing number of zombies. You can work together or hose each other.

"I don't have to outrun the zombies, I only have to outrun YOU!"

You can buy a bag of 100 Zombies, Zombie dogs, Glow-In-the-Dark Zombies, etc. for only a few dollars.

If you want cheap, even MORE super simple, and stupid fun in a board game, try Twilight Creations' All Wound Up! game.
In this game, you're one of four wind-up toy zombies and you're trying to escape from the cemetery, which happens to be the game board. You have cards that tell you to do things like take one quarter turn of the crank on your zombie and let him walk across the board. If you bump into things like mausoleums or tombstones, you have to stop, etc. The goal is to be the first zombie to wander randomly out of the cemetary gates. Here's a shot of the wind-up zombies and cemetery:

Another nifty caveat: if your wind-up zombie breaks, you can just mail it to them and they'll send you another one. Pretty cool.

The Twilight Creations company is a husband and wife team. They're in the greater Cincinnati area and they, along with their kids come up with all these zombie-themed games that are just stupid amounts of fun.

Bloodbowl? That and Necromunda have been described by a friend of mine as 'gateway games' as they have a limited hobby component (you can paint your team/gang up pretty, and there's even room for conversions) and are relatively simple to play.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

It Depends on what SHE wants to do. You get her to the shop, give her the choice, and you better suck it up on your part whatever she picks.

You want a couple of options?

Zombies!!!
Last Night on Earth
Decent

Incursion is pretty simple, but there is alot of preperation if you want to get into it.
Chaos in Carpathia is pretty simple, as well as the other Blue Moon Games.
GW has Necromunda, where you can use anything you want to from the GW line, up to and including the Necromunda guys themselves.
Pulp City is pretty sweet, as well
Spinespur, if you really want to get down and dirty.
Warmachine, without getting too involved, you can use a box or two and go to work.
Star Wars. The minies can come right out of a box, go to it on the table.
AT43. Prepainted, but they really look good and it plays fast.
etc.etc.etc.
The issue comes with your lady, though.

you can use the hobby aspect, the game aspect, or the models to get yourself some one on one time, and get something together for the two of you, if you do it right.

Let her pick what she wants, then like I said, you better suck it up and not mess with her choice.

GL to you, hope it works out.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Here are four suggestions for a complete game in a box.

Doom The Boardgame (science fiction)
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10640

Zombies!!! (modern horror)
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2471

Battlelore (fantasy strategy)

Axis and Allies (WW2 strategy)
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/prod/axis

If you want to put in more effort, you could get skirmish wargame rules and a bunch of figures. You normally need 6 to 20 figures per side.

You can buy ready painted plastic models of knights or cowboys in 54mm scale. Army men are ready made but need painting. There are cheap plastic models of Napoleonic, ACW, Colonial British and Zulus, and ancient Celts, Romans and Libyans all in 28mm, which you need to assemble and paint like GW figures.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
