The very base of the gasbag was a Lego Adventurers airship, a highly sought after and rare collectors item. However, it's been greenstuffed up to make the banding, and the tail fins are plasticard.

It actually has a physical presence way out of proportion to it's actual size. Very handy psychological effect.

I like this its just awesome. imagine it coming in on the battlefield and aiming all the lascannons at something and zaap!! It would probably be quite easy to shoot down thou but awesome idea.. keep it up!

In this instance, and based on what the model "counts as", I think it would be pretty reasonable to ignore the "gasbag" for all line of sight purposes.

Measure to and from the passenger compartment underneath, and there shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Really, the only things it could use would be the props that stabilize it. That, and I'm not too big a fan of the white, but I don't know how the rest of your army is painted...

Yes the inside of that thing provides so much space for cool effects like sounds and lights. A working search light!!

Also, I'm not a fan of the white either, it looks too clean. You could dry brush it with some brown to make it look like the frame is showing through where the fabric is stretched.

However, this is an awesome concept. Great Job!!

It's not actually white, that's probably just the lighting. It's the Coat D'Arms version of rotting flesh, a kind of tanned browny yellow. Pretty much the same colour as that Kirov airship in the picture.

I'm planning on using bits of pipe on the next one to make the tail fins curved like the kirov. I don't intend to add fans though, as they would be too fiddly, and would break too easily. Not to mention the hassle of transporting it with bits sticking out everywhere.

The inside is actually hollow, so I could feasibly fit lots of interesting things in there.

When I get round to a Valkyrie variant, I'm going to construct a kind of plasticard casing around the missile pods, and hang them from underneath like the bombs on the Kirov. But I won't have the next one finished till March most likely.

I had one of them as a kid- its in my parents attic somewhere (they're saving the Lego for grandchildren).

That's what I figured. Sought after and rare, though? Ka-ching! I have 1 in my garage...somewhere.

If you have gasbag on it's own, you can get twenty quid for it. If you have the complete lego box still sealed it's worth about fifty.

Can I ask why? Its just some old Lego surely?

The Explorers set was a limited run, and only so many were made.

As for that Abney Park song, I must I personally always preferred the ClockWork Quartet. Abney Park are good, but they've retained too many of their Goth elements to make a particularly Steampunk sound in my books.
