well ive collected salamanders space marines for a few years and have collected about 3500pts
so ive decided to start a guard army

heres the fluff: this is cadian armed guard who were fighting on a forge planet when it fell they
are the last survivors. since they have been fighting in ruins they have adapted camouflage
of grey with black and white dots. along side the cadians on the forge planet steel leigon
had been fighting alongside them but all had been killed.

sorry if its bad best I could think of

green= painted and assembeled
orange= painted or made
red = still in box
blue= going to add to the army
1 command squad
2 sentinels
Leman russ
Chimera
tech priest

2 troop squads

1 leman russ
1 valkirie
hellhound

huge thanks to Metallifan and Hits_the_spot!!

Sounds good. You don't need an excuse to use urban camo tho. Would be neat to see a Steel Legion remnant squad at some point.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Maybe its just me, but those models look like they've received a few splashes of paint and have been left bare plastic grey for the most part.

I kinda feel the same way, but I guess that is a fashion of speed painting. If you have a whole bunch to do to get them table-ready for a tournament or something, I guess that is one way to do it. Some judges may not go for that though.

Definitely needs more shading. Perhaps devlan mud like you said plus maybe add a light blue to the camo scheme for some variation?

Decided I'd take a glance, looking for some ideas for an IG scheme of my own... but... yeah... think I'll pass on this.

The camo patterns look entirely too forced and ineffective (especially the sentinel), and the bare plastic + white/grey splashes on everything look like you took more effort in snapping the pictures than actually painting these.

Nobody is trolling you. Your models DO look like they are mostly unpainted in your pictures, due to the color of grey. The reason that this is so apparent is that many details that should be black, metal, colored, etc you have left grey. If you go back and add colors where they should be your models will look more painted. For example, the entire back side of your sentinel is grey, as is most of your flamer's tank, hose, etc.

I painted a necron army once and base coated it in codex grey. Everyone commented that it was bare plastic. Its annoying but its one of the drawbacks of that colour.
Use either a devlan mud wash or a badab black wash then rehighlight. It will give them a grittier look more in keeping with fighting on a forge world.
Personally I like what you've done so far. So im subscribing.

well none of them are finished I still have to do metallic things you said but I will buy fortress grey as at the moment I'm using codex grey it looks a lot better in real life honest the pic's don't do it justice .

I use a lot of Codex grey, and I can safely say that isn't Codex Grey. It's bare plastic. Zooming in, you can see the trademark sheen of it, and the discolouration where the pieces were cut from the sprues. The paint on the skin is also looking very thick for a primed mini. Always prime em'. Doen't have to be GW, just has to be able to adhere to plastic. If you have a pin vice, drilling out the gun barrels is a great plan too.

Painting the armour in either White, Black, or a different shade of Grey will also improve the overall look. As well, pick out the boots in a different colour. Black is always a solid bet. Make sure you colour metallic areas as well, and be sure to pick out large tubes and cords.

Maybe show some start to finish "In Progress" shots for your next batch of stuff. Then it'll be easier to help.

A wash or an inking would do a world of good. Also using a brighter colour to pick out some details like Sergeant's chevrons would help as well.

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. heres my afro guardsman with only green stuff

well the idea for painting is to do a dark devlan mud wash on face and hair so it gets in the holes
and then sort of drybrush black so it doesnt go in the holes
