Well I'm not really sure what you mean by guard post, but here is a pic of some tau buildings we made for adepticon last year.
How big were you looking to make it, what is it's function, etc. Give us more info!

Jeff Vaughn designed them, they were all created out of 2" foam. The support sections were four rectangular columns glued together, and the tops were two circles that had the edges rounded off with coarse sand paper.
The weird appendages were just cut out of the foam the same, and then rounded out with coarse sand paper. Basically he just removed foam until it looked right.
They were based on cork board used to soak up water from potted plants, and painted by simply dusting spray paint on top of a black undercoat.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for your help. I was thinking the small buildings on the corners that surround the bigger battlement.

Plumbing bits seem to work well as basis for Tau constructions.

Planter (pot plant drip trays and the like) stuff is also good for Tau stuff.
The landing pad with the railhead on it was made from a plant pot drip tray.

Here's a link to some eldar terrain that I threw together in an afternoon when I fancied a game of Planetstrike.
It's really rough but worked well enough for what I wanted at the time.
Try using different shaped packaging, some Tau bits and a Hot glue gun!

They take ages to get the knack of, but then I chose them as my first, learning army. It's a case of going with a build you like and then learning how to use it, but most have be that way. You can definately win with it. You will lose a lot to begin with it. And there isn't much between them, I tend to either win comfortably or get tabled. Granted, I usually end with most of my force dead or run off the table anyway, I've yet to try a KP match. And even when I'm playing objectives I just tend to go kill the other guy, none of my troops can hold an objective if there is anything threatening them so you have to wipe out or kite the other guy anyway.
In short: they work. They require a deft touch and a devious mind (or experience and good tactics, if you want to phrase it in more conventional terms :p ) and the willingness to sacrifice just about everything and learn all the quirks and dirty but legal tricks in the book. One of the few armies that plays like their fluff, then...

Cool. I'll be sure to tell my friends that. Also Eldar are sort of like that. I haven't won a game yet and on the second turn I all ways get wiped out. But i just need t learn how to use them better.

Thats very true. Eldar can be a serious ass kicker army, but youll take your share of lumps figuring out how to do it
