Hey guys, Im new to the forum here, so be gentle Ive read a bunch of threads before but never joined and I noticed there is a huge wealth of great modelers and painters here.

Ok so here's the poop. I originally started a Daemon Hunters pure GK army.. but realized that well, I need heavy support and I suck too much to get the strategy down. Also, I saw the new IG Valk models (I havent gamed since well, 2 IG codex's ago haha) My theme is Knights of the Temple, AKA Knights Templar (the medieval kind, not the black templars chapter) So, my dreadnoughts have banners sporting the templar cross and my terms have the templar red and white shield painted on their coat of arms.

But now, I am going to make a guard army with GK allies. Pretty much just using them for the Vedetta's as badass gunships and really fast delivery system for GK's. What I need from you guys is advice on how to take bland looking Cadian Troopers and turn them into the men at arms of the Knights Templar. I tried fiddling around with color schemes and cant find one that works, but Im open to advice on that. But my new idea is a way of converting them to look like guys wearing tabards and what not, pretty much medieval soldiers with 40k tech. I've looked at some Warhammer models but nothing really calls to me, and the only other ones I like are the rohanians from LOTR game, but they are solid peice plastic and dunno if I want to deal with that..

Ok Ill stop rambling, and let you guys give me some advice. Thank you loads

Here is my dreadnought.. Kind of what Im going for.. only with more time spent painting and sucking less haha

Erm.... it's not spelled "Emporer", to start. And your paint is EXTREMELY gloppy. Strip it and try again.

I agree with Owain, strip that sucker and thin your paints the second go-round.

Alright well, it doesnt really matter because Im not using that model anyways, and it was my first paint job in, like... 6 years.. Im just using it as a reference to the basic concept.. Any ideas on my original question?

Edit: My original post was was too rambly.. So what Im asking for is advice on how to convert Cadian guardsmen into medieval looking crusaders with lasguns, and advice on how to paint them as such.

GW's only medieval footsoldiers would be bretonnians.

Sorry the othe rposters are not answering your questions... I can't remember the name o fteh guy..."dave taylor" maybe? But around here and on the net are IG that re designed to look like VERY early WW1 trench soldiers. They combine IG and Bret men at arms models. They would probably be right up your alley.

Another poster has a blog ...the gennswich rifles" or something taht is using the same idea to great effect.

Also, if you are wanting "knight" marines... try googling Maxmini and looking at the "clockwork knight heads". Also, the T visor berzerkers of khorne helmets (when you strip everything off) make great knight heads.

Someone has scans of the Genswick rifles. They're a nice conversion.

You have a couple of ways really. Your best would be of coarse using the bretonians as shown in the above post, or if you are confident in you green stuffing create the robes yourself.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I'd check into the bodies of the Bretonnian Men-at-arms with lasguns/equipment from the cadian range, this would make them not so much knights, but then again, the armies weren't all knights. And you almost got to have some rough riders!.

Storyhooks could be that it's a feral (medieval) world that got recruited. They keep the legacy of their world by wearing medieval style armor and keeping to their feudal traditions. The command squads could be clad in platemail instead of chainmail to make them look more like the group of knights in charge of the army. And when the grey knights requests (demands) the aid of their regiment it's easy for them to be higher on the feudal ladder.

Ok, so we're going for 'Foot Knights' as your regular guys. Like, full plate armour, helms and tabards, but not as big and bulky as the Space Marine element of the army, right?

The problem here is that GW don't make that many infantry legs in full plate armour. The only ones I can think of are Chaos Warriors, which come with a body attached too. You could always remove the chaos symbols and fur easy enough.

If you stick with Cadian legs, then for torsos, you can use Greatswords, any knights, or pistoliers.

For Head, I'd go for either the Brettonian Men-at-Arms head with the taller helm - not the WW1 style ones, or full enclosed Brettonian Knight helms without animals on top!

At a guess, I reckon your best bet would be

Torso and Legs - Chaos Warriors
Head - Brettonian Knights
Arms and Weapon - Cadians

Great tips thanks guys! I think Im going to the LGS and going to grab a box of Brettonian MAA. My IG are pretty much going to be the men at arms to the Grey Knights for fluff purposes, so it works out. Also, those maxmini heads look great if I ever decide to cut up my GKs
