Knowing what we all know about GW and how they move slower than the fastest servants in the Imperial Bureaucracy and the release schedule is often times years late for choices in Codices, I created my own Hydra Flak tank model so I could run 9 of these in the 2009 'Ardboyz tournament.
I already owned 9 Hellhounds and didn't feel the need to buy more models to convert over so my solution was simple. I needed to create a baseplate that fits over the Hellhound turret ring and the rear hatch including the fuel tank feeds. After making that, I made the turret, and created the autoguns and drum feeds. With a little bit of Micro-mark technologies, I made enough to outfit 9 Hellhounds and away we went.

Looking good how exactly did you make the guns. What is Micro-mark technology?

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I made a single gun using a variety of sizes of plastic tubing. The gun casing is a scrath-built plasticard rectangle with plasticard strip details.
Micro-mark is a fine scale tool catalog company here in the states that sells all manner of handy tools and rubber/resin materials. I took my original pieces, molded them up, and started making enough parts for the 9 Hydras I needed.

I like it! Can the guns be raised or lowered? Also, its turret profile seems a mite high... Perhaps consider placing the two pairs of autocannons closer to each other? Just a friendly suggestion of course.
Keep up the good work!
Rico.

I agree that the profile of the turret is high but time was short and I needed to get them done. I'd like to go back and play around with the configuration at some point but at the least I have them done.
The cannons don't move but I suppose if I drilled right through the center and used a plastic rod, I could make them elevate.

I like the profile of it actually. It definately gives the feel of the air def ones I saw on active duty. I take it though you still need to fully paint it as the chasis doesn't match up?

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Yes, I still need to paint it up to match the chasis.
I've found that the high profile doesn't make much of a difference in any of the games I've played with them. It does make them appear more menacing.
