I apologise for the quality of the pictures. I have removed the worst of the bunch, but it seems that taking pics at night is simply not something my camera does well. I still have to do the base and varnish this monster, but the hard work is done. Enjoy!

The red is nice, but the black on the carapace doesn't seem to have much to it - is it highlighted etc?

@OP - Do something with the carapace! It's letting down an otherwise very well-painted model!

That head is for "Enhanced Senses", which give a bonus to Ballistic Skill (at least in the 4E dex).

Yeah what everyone else said so just highlight the carapace.

Yup, black highlights and call it done. Nice work too.

With black you have to realize that just painting something black looks weird. As most things in the real world are not "true black" like the chaos black paint. So highlighting it or even adding a little bit of white to make your black paint not true black is the way to do it.

Thanks for the responses. I had planned to highlight the carapace with my usual layer of liche purple around the edges. The wife said not to.

I will be adding some more touches to it tonight then. lol

The highlights will be an excellent addition to an otherwise beautiful model, Great job

In that case I will try to get the updated pics up tonight. I have now done the base (quite plain though) and the carapace highlights are finished. Just waiting on the varnish to arrive in store.

Ok I'm now posting up the "new and improved" pics below. I don't think they are actually that much of an improvement though (the pics that is). It's come out not quite right, but just try to imagine liche purple over the black and that's pretty much it. Hope you enjoy them.

With the Carnifex kit you get around six faces to represent different Biomorphs. The face on this 'Fex is to show Enhanced Senses (hence the increased number of eyes).

@OP: Very nice looking 'Fex, the purple highlight makes a huge difference to the carapace. Just one suggestion- clean up the excess sand around the edges of the base, it makes the base look a little messy.

Does this mean your actually going to paint your gaunts?

The gaunts are now over half done (35 out of 60). The problem is that hormagaunts are now better than the regular ones so I have to get them done (so far 0 out of 60), as well as the genestealers and warriors.

I like the purple, but I think i'd also add a small extreme highlight of grey/purple to the top edges

Yeah the highlights work well. It needed a third color in the scheme or shading done. Once the base is cleaned up on the edges it'll look great. Looking forward to seeing more.
