Hi all. I'm not sure if this would go here, or in painting&modelling, but recently, I found myself sketching more 40k things, so I just decided to share a few. I'll update this thread at any time that I finish a sketch that doesn't look like garbage. I apologize for the messiness of them, but they're sketches, so what would you expect. I scan most of these out of my sketchbook, so sometimes things get cut off, because I draw them too close to the sketchbook coil, and then the scanner top won't close. Stupid coil-bound sketchbook. Anyways here are 2 of the ones I've done recently:

Dreadnought of a chapter I just thought up, the Imperial Hornets, sorely lacking in proper heraldry apparently.

Ork Nob with 2 Klaws. You can't see one because of my stupid sketchbook. God-Emperor, I hate that sketchbook.

I do take requests (although why you'd want to request from a 13-year old, I don't understand) but I don't do colour or even completed drawings very often, most of my drawings are just messy sketches.

Yeah you can see them. Is the dreadnought from french class? You should post the ones from french class, like that tank.

When sketching, take a light pencil (2H or 4H) and just get the dimensions right. This way legs, head, arms will all be the correct length. This is suppose to be very quick, then, take your 2H or 4H pencil and draw the actual model.

I say "sketch" but really, it's just me sitting down with paper, a single HB pencil (a crappy Staples brand one too) and an eraser and just drawing. To me, "sketching" by definition, doesn't need to be particularly good, most of the time sketching is just how I goof off when I'm supposed to do homework. This thread, is to some level, a way for me to get back into the habit of drawing, as I haven't really "drawn" for about half a year, just doodles, really.

To you they may look like doodles but to other people they look really good. But I think thats because you don't complement your self very often . I'm not mocking you if you know what I mean. I hope this doesn't come out the wrong way.

I don't really like drawing necron bodies/legs, and those feet are really not that good. This was intended to be some sort of necron flamer unit.


I intended this to be a kind of Tau melee unit. I hate tau feet. If you look carefully, you can see the ghost of the necron behind it.


GASP, colour! Actually...it doesn't look so good. It looks better in real life, I promise. I drew this after a french test...


Another colour piece. Meant to be a daemon of khorne or something. I really have no idea, it could be barney on steroids for all I care.

Oh yeah, the pencil crayons I use are just crayola ones, I got them in a nice l'il set that came with a sharpener.

For a 13 year old, they are great. Agree with the comment about blocking out the figure to get the dimensions right. Also, the perspective on a couple of parts could be better. Keep up the good work though.

ZoomDakkaakka, I don't know what your talking about. That necroflamer is sweet. I also like the feet. All I'm hating is the pose of it. For the tau, the thing seems abit skinny but if you sketch the giant shoulder pad it'll look 10 times better. BTW, what is the the thing above the barney with steroids? It looks like an eldar ninja.

Ah, that happens to me a lot too. I had a lovely ol' cow drawn on the back of another french test earlier, but alas, I couldn't keep it. It was an udder disaster, really...

and Munch, I probably could do the hormagaunt swarm, is there a specific angle or pose that you want them in?

Actually I also love to draw on my work. But yet again, I also have to end up haning it in.

Chapter Master for the Imperial Hornets. My homebrew chapter that I do not play, but draw...Their gimmick is that, similar to the Black Dragons (or was it Bone Dragons?), they have ossific blades. But unlike the BD, they have stingers which inject a lethal venom procured from the Betcher's gland. Even though he's my chapter master, he doesn't actually have a name...any suggestions?

Pretty bad. I drew it while I was homeworking, so it's real messy and all. I just thought I might as well post it though.

I like this one, it took me a good hour or so. I'm not to fond of the helmet however, or the feet.

You really need to work on proportions, perspective, and kind of 3d depth. Redrawing graphics from codex might help. It's a very good exercise.

Would I be allowed to post some of mine up ? See if they give you some inspiration ?

I must say though you defiantly have a talent there, for a 13 year old they a lot better than mine at 13 !

Could you do a Commissar? I will leave the angle and stuff to your creativity, allowing the juices to flow (sounds kind of sus?)

Wow, zeroyne, you're quite versatile. I love the way you did the shading on the noise marine too, adds a lot of feeling.

Ah here's that commissar. I tried a bit more on proportioning, but I think it's still a bit wonky (the sword hand, especially). The pose is a bit too static for my liking too. But other than that, I'm pretty happy with it. The feet are still a pain, but they seem to be getting better.
Kubik, which parts specifically should I work on? I know my feet are pretty bad, and my hands usually don't look too good when they're reaching out and such. Are there any specific ones you had in mind?
Ah right, and that Eldar, I just started. Sorry I did it after the commissar, but I figured the commissar would be easier, since the eldar always have those silly helmets. Silly to draw anyways... Speaking of unfinished requests, I AM actually working on that tyranid swarm that Munch asked for, it's just it hasn't been coming along too well, and it's been kind of on hiatus. See, I usually do sketches in one sitting, and just pound them out, but with stuff like swarms, it takes a day or two, so I usually lose interest in the time I'm not working on it. Don't worry though, I pinky swear I'll get it done. Like, super pinky swear. I do have a test bit to see how well I could do gaunts, which I have somewhere here, as well, I'll try to get it.

The commissar looks good. apart from what you mentioned about the sword hand, etc.
