I'll give you the benefit of a doubt.

I think it could actually look fairly decent with a paintjob and maybe a few details like metal plates made of plasticard.

WIP, what does that mean again?
Oh right, that the thing isn't done yet...
Like Darth Bob said, add some other details, especially on some of the "floating" parts like the dozer blade claw thing.
Then of course paint it up, it's kind of difficult to see what's going on in the large shots with the different box designs and glare.

I think it's a nice start, and as always with WIPs, is only an indication of what it may become. The straws don't really work for me (yet), and the head may be a tad small, but other then that I believe it definitely has potential. Updates are in order I guess

cardboard can be hardened by doing multiple layers of it with pva glue, but honestly what you have their is just well cheap. Sorry man but this is one of the occassions I would say just pony up the $90.00 bucks and buy one. Would be better then that.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

It's very boxy and has a weird proportion. i love the glue gun on the top. My oppion to clean it up a little would be to put the dozer scoops on the feet, use a smaller box for the arm, point the straws forward, cut some windows into the neck tray. If you have enough boxes leftover, cut them up and build stompa style skirt all the way around, to hide the removable box on the back but so you can still store stuff in it.
Keep working on it, as long as you like it thats all that matters.

I think it needs work. That said, you have some very good ideas here that I think you can salvage. Here are my opinions:

1) First and foremost, if Orks built it, it is allowed to look as if it has been thrown together. And it is allowed to be a mess. WAAGGHHH ORKS!

2) I like the cookie pan you placed below the Gargant's head. Something about it adds interest for me. You can still see the RIM of the pan, which I think you may want to hide somehow, but it is an interesting shape and looks "right" to me.

3) - You used boxes and it shows. What lets us know this is that the front of the gargant is straight-up-and-down. A "real" gargant has almost a "belly" that comes out in the front. A little more like this:

http://www.dropship.org.uk/epic/orks06.asp

4) - Don't use a cup for the belly gun. It is obviously a cup. You might use, say, a roll from a tube of toilet tissue - more of a cylinder.

5) - The head looks actually pretty OK to me.

6) - You're using GW guns, that's very good. But they look stuck-on. So you will want to disguise this somehow. Some kind of a balcony all the way around the base of the gun with maybe some Grots mucking around in there might help.

7) - The glue bottle that you turned into a gun looks wicked.

8) - Cardboard, by the way, is not a great material for this sort of thing (it warps over time). Better is plasticard. Using cardboard first to get an idea of the final shape is a good idea, though.

9) - In the end, feel free to disregard any of my ideas because it is YOUR GARGANT and your labor of love (waagghh!). More important than how it looks is that you actually finish it to your satisfaction - and then unleash it on the 'umies!

WAAGGHH!

I wish I could be more help, but it just looks very shoddy, and even with paint, it will look very shoddy. Your main problem is you're using boxes. No matter how much you will try to make the sides flat and straight, they never will be, and it will always obviously be a stack of boxes with bits of household junk tacked on.

What I will say, positively, is that you are trying something, and that is good at least! You have some interesting ideas, like that rotary gun, it is a good start. I do like the idea of the box shapes, which makes it look like large stowage craft units popped together.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

I don't think the boxes are a problem specifically, but it needs more detail. Welded and bolted plates all over the place, riveted reinforcing on the corners and joins, glyphs and the like.

The cup belly gun is too flimsy. If you're set on using it, I would recommend adding a second cylinder inside the cup, and sealing over the end, to give the barrel some thickness.

I like the head, and the huge shoulder gun. The rest is a promising start, but just needs more work to make it shine.

I agree that it has potential Meks can build out of anything.

That said, i'd certainly look to re-inforce the corners of the boxes externally like you see on cargo containers. So "L" shapes running along them, to look like they're holding the sides together. Obviously lots fo rivets when you get to that stage in your build. Also metal plates randomly to cover up the holes the mek made that he no longer intends to use.

Like the rotary gun However not got a clue what the white thin thing sticking out it's right side is meant to be, a gun? not really shown in the pics.

I think the lifter/combat arm would benefit from having a tube from the main box to the dozer blades claws, to break up the sahpe a little.

I disagree with the above post about adding a skirt, but then I can't stand the current flowery dress wearing stompa model (scratch building my own).

Good luck with the build, try web searching images of gargants and stompas. You should get some more ideas

thanks for the comments. yeh it looks jike stacked boxes for now, but i dont have so many money, so i cant just buy plasticcard and foamboard like your other players (thank you for pointing that out stump), but i want to cover the boxes with plasticcard to ''reinforce'' it. first one big plate on all sides, then small plates all around. the belly cannon looks too flimsy imo too, so if i got a toilet paper pipe to spare, i will definaly use it.
btw. this is my first attempt to build a super-heavy

Every Mek's gotta start somewhere! Take the suggestions you like and ditch the rest. Keep up the good work! And in the end, the number one person to please is yourself. You know we all want to see it when it is finished! (After all, you admitted that it is only 1/2 done).

I think this has potential, my scratch built stompa started life as a couple of plant pots!

Something you may want to try is cutting up some sheets/boxes of card into small square and rectangular pieces, then stick these over the outside of the main body. It will make the model look more like it is armour plated, and hide the boxes, if you do, do this (hehe I just said do do!) then it's probably best to paint the whole thing black first so that any gaps don't show the boxes underneath.

Also if you can get your hands on a broken printer or two (most offices and schools have them knocking about) then they are a great source of cogs and wheels to represent "workin' gubbinz". Plus smashing them open is great fun

Good luck with your project, am looking forward to seeing it finished

Go to a local liquor distributor and ask for cardboard boxes. They'll give em to you for free. Cut them up into irregular squares and rectangles. Then take the shapes you have cut out and make apuzzle on your "boxes". Glue them down. Armor is now done. Then, if you can get a small hole punch, make rivets.

Don't listen to the nay sayers. I think this is a brilliant start. Large models are all about texture. There can never be too much on an ork vehicle. Go nuts and keep posting updates.

I agree with those who say "it's a start"... It does need much more work, but this is 100x cooler than the player that always talks about someday buying a FW model.

Ah man, I just noticed the date on this thread, I'll applogise about the necro stuff now. I did a search and didn't look at the date before I posted.
