Anyone here been a big fan of these guys?
You gotta enjoy the ability to deepstrike and assault the same turn and a 5++ save means they're good tarpits for things like TH/SS Terminators or big scary MCs.

Please use the search function, we have had at least 2 detailed threads about this.
_______
Anyway, I'm a fan. They work much better with larger numbers.
I use a 20 man squad in my competitive 2000 point list.
They can do tarpit but they are my ace in the hole vs. hordes and locking multiple squads of MEQs.
They have enough bodies to horde over the objective to make jetbikes and bikes unable to contest objectives, making the opponent rely on vehicles to do that job instead.
Just use them in the way that MAKES the opponent have to deal with them is enough for them to be useful....but they don't fit just any list...they really need numbers to do any job even objective camping.
The bare minimum is an 8 man squad, the ideal minimum is 10. The next 'effective ring' size would be a 20 man squad, but I guess anything between 10 and 20 is decent.
You'll want at least 3 entry points to keep flexible.
The only time to start sweating is Dawn of War and the closest icon is an isolated squad...asking for their ride to get shot down.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I tried but got nothing. Chalk it up to failure on my part.

Interesting idea. I figured they'd make good objective campers (with go to ground) but spreading them all over an objective also seems like a jerky thing to do.

Never a concern in my armies since everything is Marked.

Why is that a concern? If they Rhino is close to the enemy, they're also close to being assaulted.
Or did you mean a Rhino squad out in the middle of no where?

How so? Are you supposed to politely move off of the objective so your opponent can come and take it?

You mean 'ICONED'... yes, I'm anal about the mark vs. icon thing. Why is that a concern? If they Rhino is close to the enemy, they're also close to being assaulted. Or did you mean a Rhino squad out in the middle of no where?
By virtue of being the only tank turn 1 (with no guarentee you get first) and most likely closest as to maximize the icons' distance. It doesn't matter that one condition what ever cover saves you have. Unless you have BLoS terrain in the middle of board (which is not cool on a consistant basis), that tank will die...and leave the icon not as close as it would have been. Interesting idea. I figured they'd make good objective campers (with go to ground) but spreading them all over an objective also seems like a jerky thing to do.
And bunching up for enemy templates and blasts are the smart thing to do? Or the friendly suicidal thing to do? Lol, you are using lesser daemons, there is nothing jerky about it , esp. with the negative feedback most people give them. As for the search function ( I only looked in 3/7 of the pages there): Each link is a different topic with Lesser Daemons as the focus. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/210519.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/273855.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/252059.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/252238.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/236568.page http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/245891.page Enjoy

By jerky, I mean ruthless, evil and intelligent, just like any good Chaos Marine.
I'll check those posts out, thanks Sanctjud

Where does it say that in the Codex? I really want to know but can't find it.

Quoted from "The Defenestrator":
"Yes, I don't buy into the goody goody image the Tau PR machine has churned out . They're all dirty cold-blooded space-communists if you ask me! Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."
Altanis wrote Vindicare. Hes like Santa he watches when your sleeping. He knows when your awake. I doesn't matter if youve been bad or good because the inquisition put a hit out on you and a shield breaker round is gonna go through your head when your eating your weaties.
