The new tyranid mycetic assault spores have me chomping at the bit, so I tried knocking a few together using expanding foam to make an egg sac type thing, and stuck some spawn tentacles in it. The idea was to get something that looked like the silhouettes in the apocalypse rule book. I made 8 because that was how many tentacular bits I had.
What do you think, would you play against them, painted obviously, as I have had someone at my (F)LGS refuse point blank?

Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

These look a lot more like the artwork on that page than the toys that everyone is using. I like that you modeled the "egg" on its side. Also, the artwork shows a spore that is only slightly larger than the carnifex its holding.

On the other hand, I always envisioned the spore being roughly the same size as a drop pod for gaming purposes.

What was the reasoning that your opponent gave for refusing?

Why would he refuse to play you? There's no GW or FW miniature for Spores, right?

Anyway, awesomesauce! I would totally play you and then ask you to make me some Mycetic Spores.

He said that they looked terrible (touch of sour grapes maybe as he had just bought a bunch of plasma hatchers lol). Why that means you can't play against them I don't know

Inanimate: they're dead easy to make, just foam filler sprayed on cling-film with spawn and nid-bits stuck in after they had dried a bit. I believe someone did a similar tutorial somewhere on dakka if it's any help.

They're really nice. I don't know why your opponent refused to play against them. I would definately play againts them. To tell you the truth, these look much nicer than some of the plasma hatchers that I've seen so far.

Good Job.

Cheers Grimm, I'm not too big a fan of the plasma hatchers either

I like em, except for the gun sticking out the end. I don't envision these having a full on fun like most critters, but more just the opening like the Raveners.

I didn't like the barrel sticking out at first, but the ravener idea would have been hard to make it look like a vc as foam is v.dif to work with, so in the end I had to settle with it. If it's any consolation, it is the only one of it's kind, the rest have tentacles or spines

They're perfectly acceptable for playing, especially if you paint them nicely. You might wish to add some slits/holes for passengers to get out?

Once GW or Forgeworld release some official models, only then you might want to update or replace yours - until then, these are fine.
