Hello all you lovely Daakaites,

I've recently been bitten by the Blood Bowl bug, and I played my first game a week ago and have been mucking around with the video game since, and I've decided I'd quite like to give Wood Elves a try. The only problem is, the models produced by GW are, IMO, awful. I suppose I've been sopiled by the game's lush graphics, but the Wood Elves in the video game look so much better! I'm sure they can be recreated in model form, but I'm sort of at a loss of where to start.

Which is where you come in! I've been scouting around for some minis that look a little less silly than the official models, and I haven't found any yet. I've looked at Ozymandias' BB WE team made from the generic 'Elf' team, and, while a step in the right direction, it just isn't quite what I want.

So what do you think? Am I being too unrealistic with my goals? Have you seen a team I could do with looking at? I'd also link up some in-game screenshots but I'm at work unfortunately.

Cheers,
Sok

As a general guideline I would either use models I like or address the issues I don't like in the current models

I made my wood elf team from the basic metal figures. I started by clipping/filing off bits I didn't like. Particularly the hair. Then I added green stuff to sculpt new hair and details like boots and leaves. Since I've never been a fan of the 40mm bases for blood bowl I used a WFB dryad as a treeman.

For now I don't have any pictures but if you're interested I can take some tomorrow when I have access to my camera again.

Good luck

Another option is to buy WFB minis and chop off the weapons - which is what I did for my BB teams. Since much of the wood elf range is now plastic, that eases both conversion issues and allows more posing flexibility.

Check my BB Kitbash blog here - Elves and Lizards are on page 2: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/258018.page. I used Eldar minis with WHFB heads from the DE, HE, and WE ranges as I'd intended them to be used either as an Elf team or a Wood Elf team. It'd be pretty easy to Wood Elf them up a bit more, though, with some cloaks or some of the Glade Guard legs.

Here's a couple pics of the team:

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Thanks for checking out my gallery and I agree with you completely about the old BB Wood Elf team.

Your best bet may be to use the fantastic range from the Wood Elf Warhammer line. Eternal Guard would make good linemen with their weapons cut off. The wardancers would work for any position, you would just need some way to designate the actual "wardancer" positions (maybe the flippy direct only wardancers), and a treekin would make a good BB treeman.

Someone in my local league has converted his team entirely out of wardancers, using the direct-only ones as actual Wardancers. It looks awesome

Just be glad you don't play Amazons: There is nothing you can convert them from in the citadel range unless you fancy GSing some boobs onto Fanatics. shudder

Well for what it's worth I took some pictures of my team. Hope you like 'em

What I didn't like with the original models and how I dealt with them:

Hair: The hair was almost all topknots, I cut them away and sculpted new hair.
Jumpsuits: Allthough the wood elves have low armour in BB I didn't enjoy the face that they all had circus clothes so I decided to add some details. I sculpted some big leafs around their hips and also added some boot shafts.
Treeman: The treeman comes with a 40mm base, these big figures/bases always irritate me in the game so I just picked up a few dryads from ebay and used one as a stand in.

Paintjob is fairly standard woodelves with some added tattoos.

I used eternal guard with a bit of clipping for my blockers, the direct wardancers, and spell singers? as my catchers. Sorry the pic is a bit poor, but it was taken some time ago and they have floor polish on them to protect from the usual damage. Hope this helps some.

If you don't like the shiny you can always hit them with a Matt spray afterwards to dull them back down. That way you still get the protection but don't get the shiny.

Wow, thanks for all the advice guys! Lots to look through there, but what Savis said about addressing the problems with the models is some fantasic advice. I was just thinking "I don't like them, is there anything better?" rather than "I don't like them, can I improve them?" I love what you've done with them, I'll be trying my hand at sculpting a few details I think! I'm also thinking about experimenting with the plastic glade guard kit, see if there's anything I can do with that. Who knows, there may even be a P&M blog in there somewhere...

Cheers,
Sok
