I found these green plastic crystals at my local Walmart - they were with the polished rocks and seashells and other decorated items with the intended use of supporting flowers placed in a clear container. They were only 4 dollars a tube, so I bought them thinking I could use them for converting.

There are four different types and in my opinion they all look better than the monolith’s regular crystal. They were other colors available, pink and purple. I just thought that some people converting necron vehicles or structures might be interested.

One problem is that on the bottom they have a holed protuberance for stringing, but it look like that it would be fairly easy to shave off.

Not too bad, very refreshing. Perhaps if they came in a color that poped more I'd be sold on the idea.

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".

IMHO, not Green enough, despite their good side and shapes. I'd have to either paint them, or light with with a green LED.

Yeah, the problems with these are, they don't look "right" when compared to the rest of the gauss on the monolith. I think it looks a bit too "real" compared to the rest (Remembering that the Monolith's "Crystal" isn't really a crystal at all).

Although, if you found a way to replace the rest of the gauss (Rods + Portal) with crystal-looking pieces, it could be a very interesting looking Monolith

I'd be interested to see how they look with a green wash over them to brighten up the colour a little.

Or lit from underneath with a green LED, as Aduro said...

I like them, all they need is a little green highlighting to make them stand out, and a red Echidna guarding them

I think it depends on how the rest of your army looks. If your monolith or troops aren't color heavy, I think these will be fine. Hard to tell from the photos, but I think they look fine with the copper monolith.

If one wanted to make the colors pop more perhaps putting a light in the monolith with a green filter will suffice.

Nice shape, but it seems a pretty dull shade of green. Maybe you could apply some sort of glaze or ink to saturate the colour?

Gave one a healthy coating of green glaze. The holes that I had besmirched in my first post made it easy to suspend them to paint the whole crystal in one go. The glaze tended to bead up a little, I recommend letting some of the glaze sit exposed to air so it thickens up for an easier job of applying it to the plastic.

Thanks, the product name is Akasha Sparkling Gems.
The company site is:
http://www.akashacrystals.com/product.htm
they didn’t have a product listing, but there is a good chance anyone who is interested could acquire the crystals through them.

I going to try the same technique on the spherical gem, I will post the results later.

1.) That is freaking awesome, post glaze.

2.) I hearby decree that if you use the golf ball like circular faceted one, you must house rule in:

Replace "Particle Whip" with "Disco Inferno" 24" STR9 AP3 ORD1/BLAST - any units that fail their save must spend a turn dancing (pinned)

Why not fit a small led inside to make the crystal light up? Use a green one and with the highlighting you've done, it should really shine.
