How old is old? the metal one? or the original plastic one?

A fresh paint job does wonders, and modern bitz for the driver, storm bolter and so on will help tie it to your current marines.

Hard to say more without knowing what you are up against.

You can add on some small details, maybe made out of plasticard, and also some good weathering makes it look unique.

Are all 800+ of your posts this informative?

Anyway OP, what I would do is check out pictures of the new ones and compare what differences there are. Some you can rectify via plasticard manipulation and perhaps others you should check ebay or some other site for bits of the newest edition (ie sponsoons or turrets)

he was just making a joke. Chill.
For the predator, I would add updated bitz and updated guns.

Jokes with no additional helpful info are incredibly annoying from an OP perspective and are equal to trolling or being rude if you ask me.

Good thing I didn't.
Now, back to the thread. If you really want good help, I would suggest taking pictures of this model as well.

Trade it to a collector for a new one.

Depending on how old it is it shouldn't be to hard.

I would do it the other way around; start with a new rhino chassis and add old predator sponsoons, turrent and front view slit.

Fixed that for you

Anyway, it really depends on the type. If it's on a current rhino chassis, just throw on some new bitz, maybe a new paintjob. If it's the old one... not sure what to say. Perhaps move it to a new chassis?

I have some of the older Predators, and I'm keepin' 'em old looking!

They are going to be for my Raven Guard army, so they'll fit in fine.

And they'd obviously work great for a Pre-Heresy army too.

And to be honest, they are hard to make look more 'modern'...

Part of the fluff for my army is that they try to restore old technology where they can because their armoury was depleted after a large number of their tech marines hightailed it.
As for the tank, a cousin of mine game me 2000+ points of old broken stuff recently, so I've been fixing what I can and updating what I can't.

That rounded metal turret is from the previous hybrid Annihiltor kit. I would keep it Annihilator.

I suppose you could remove those metal sponsons and put on the current plastic ones. May take a bit of work with a saw to get them to fit properly. You might just want to take Clthomps advice and trade it to someone who likes the old model and get a new one.

Keep it old school. If you need to redo the paint, Simple Gree works wonders. Then add purity seals, litany scrolls, etc. for such a venerated model. I eould also add some top vent tubes to those smoke stacks.

I totally agree with the above post. These old tanks are like classic cars; they should be restored not updated (IMHO). You should just paint it with a cool, basic color scheme and maybe some LIGHT weathering and call it good. Sweet model though. I am jealous.

I should post my pred. Its older then that one even. Think I got it in the mid 90's. Still not painted.

I think your choices are either

A.) Sell it on Ebay to a collector, and buy a new one with the proceeds, or

B.) Don't at all convert it - just strip it and repaint it. If your armies fluff is that they restore old technology, then why redo it at all? It's a restored, older model predator. As jmurph called it - add some purity seals and scrolls. Maybe even a banner. IMO, however, I disagree with Nate TG2 about the "light weathering" - I'd go the opposite way and weather the hell out of it. Lorewise, the techmarines might fear that repainting this venerable tank would offend it's ancient machine spirit - no?

I personally think the old rhino chassis is just about the ugliest thing possible, but the predator has a bit more style to it. Replacement of the turret is just about necessary. It is the center piece of the model and your eye is drawn to it. Either buying the new predator turret or creating your own through plasticard, greenstuff/graystuff/brownstuff, or found objects(possibly some creative use of a hollowed-out marker or plastic tubing). Bulking out the body would go nicely with the new turret and could be achieved through much the same process as the turret. Just weigh the cost of all that time/effort compared to simply buying a new predator though, especially if you are trying to mimic the new one closely.

Are all of your posts this needlessly antagonistic? You're heavily critical of someone for making a non-informative post and then you yourself make a few. Your "informative" post simply repeats useful information already said by others before you in this thread as well.

Those with glass houses shouldn't throw stones I think it is?

Seconded, the pimp-my-pred comment was good natured and innocent, leave him be.

As for the conversion. You might consider adding the Forge-world rhino MKIIC Extra armour (spaced) http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine-Vehicle-Accessories/MKIIc-RHINO-EXTRA-ARMOUR-SPACED.html
This will update the silhouette and should allow you to fit the new sponson mounts a bit easier. The armour would do a great job of hiding the lines of the original model.

To completely contradict myself though, I kind of agree with a few of the earlier posters. Just clean it up and give it a new coat of paint. I think your opponents would appreciate seeing a well painted vintage model on the board.

Well, as you can see, I've replaced the main gun and move the turret. Some parts were missing or broken so I needed to fix them. I think I'm just going to add some scrolling and repaint it in my chapter's colours.
Thanks guys.

I'll add my vote to keeping it old style.. but I like the idea of it having some changes anyways. Orks get all the credit for looting vehicles, but I can only imagine that there are plenty of tech priests and IG mechanics that spend many hours after a battle sorting through the destroyed tanks and salvaging every piece of armour, weapon, or equipment to use to keep the rest running. I think slight changes on the tanks just makes them more real.

My Space Wolves (way back in third edition) have only the old style rhinos, whirlwinds and even a Leman Russ tank (probably use it as a predator) and I plan to keep them that way. It's not as if the new style rhino came out and suddenly all the marines traded in their old ones. All the technology they use is old.

I've got an old style Vindicator, an old Razor Back and an old rhino still on sprue and I'm really having trouble deciding if I'm going to build them and paint them up to match my old wolves or if I'm going to let my Big Meks get a hold of them. Actually, I'll probably make a post about it and get everyone's opinions as I get closer to using them...

I love the old stuff.. and even when I start buying new tanks, I'm investing in a few of Chapter House studios Rhino Mk1 kits..
