Ok this is my first P&M Blog so bear with me.

This is my chaos,ish Howling Griffons. All the models are painted but its WIP bacause I have only one Tac squad, an HQ, a Dread,
and a Raizorback.

Any who, heres some pics, sorry if there blurry, but this is my first time taking pics of models.

All C/C is welcomed, epecally with pic tacking.

Well yes, kinda the fluff is a long and very WIP concept.

I like your idea. Have never been the biggest fan of the Howling Griffons but I like what you've done. I know you have said its WIP, but am wondering if you're going to highlight any of the armor on the marines? What you have now looks good but just a few spots on the edges would cause a nice contrast to the heavy wash your models have.

I may do that do some of the new models before the wash.
Im also a novise painter as well so i will try it.

Totally understandable. I might try a light drybrushing before the wash then. Space marine models take very well to it in my experience, and a wash after definitely tones down some of the chalky texture that you can sometimes get with drybrushing. Is also a quick and easy way to bring out the highlights on your models so that would be my syggestion.

Nice idea. Stick with it as I can see your skills coming along nicely. I think in a few months you'll have an awesome,fallen company of Howling Griffons. I look forward to the fluff you'll generate for this.

Nice painting im impressed by the way that you've kept the half and half scheme crisp and clean.

Very nice work so far, my only critique is the weathering on the Razorback. It looks a little unnatural for the grime to be an even layer all over the model. Maybe adding some heavier weathering to the lower part of the Razorback? But, yeah, other than that, nice work!

All things considered (being a novice painter) they're good. As lowkey said some edge highlights would make the whole paintjob pop out at you. Try to be more precise with the quartering line and go over the bits you mess up like yellow the black/dark metallic panels on the rear of the razorback (very easy to correct) I would dirty down the silver metal on the exhausts and guns to bring them into line with the rest of the model.

I'm not saying he hasn't I think I gave some constructive criticism and was trying to be positive. I'm not going to say they're crisp and clean when they clearly aren't. Painting HG's myself I know how hard they can be to do and if I can help in anyway then I will (although I don't make claims to be a top painter, I'm not bad). I'm just not going to blow smoke up his arse because he will not get anything from it.

Chaos!!

Well I just got 2 boxes of assault marines and a captian.

Im gonna convert one box of assault marines into vanguard vets.

so ill post pics when there done. After that there will be a lack of updates bacause, Xbox 360 E74.

Looking forward to it. Have thought of converting my own vanguard since I have about 40 Assault marines (yay for taking shrike and planetstrike games lol).
Will be interesting to see how you decide to kit them out and may have to snag a few of your ideas once I get myself around to doing some converting.

Ok so i took some pics of my new models, so tell me what ya think. As for the vanguard vets Dont commont on the kit for them
bacause i have already used them one and they worked surpisningly well. And there glued .... and i havent begon to paint them bacause of...bioshock 2. On to the pics.

Sorry for coming late to the party, but I think, going back to the first post that I like the idea of using Chaos bits to add character is great! Simple but effective. I would lik eto see you adorn the assault squad and the Vanguard with chaosy what-nots to tie the squads together otherwise they will not look like members of the same army. You used a very deep red and subtle yellow which probably would not look that great but the wash pulls it together. Good job! A problem arises that the wash is not used effeciently to accent the contours of the model. I would recomend either putting an additional wash in the recesses of the figure or use the original yellow and red to go back and touch up the raised areas of the figures to push back the wash. Idealy you would use both techniques.

More on the last post: I love the bases of your Vanguard! Very dynamic! The barrels are great. I see that some of the command squad has a bit of basing going on, try to integrate that into the older models so they are not standing on black GW bases. Try throwing in some different sized pebbles. I often go on walks with a small container to put sand and dirt in it for bases. It is free and ends up looking better than modeling dirt because it is not filtered for a perticular size. Your figs are looking good, you will be a Golden Demon champ in no time!

I like where you're going with your vanguards. All very "active" poses and the barrels are very nicely done. I would suggest that you just have a max of 2, maybe three such bases per 10 man squad. That way you make sure they stand out and catch the eye.

Second suggestion, is maybe hit up eBay for jump packs by themselves and put the torso and pack on standard marine legs. Maybe sounds a little odd but actually gives you some nice options for modeling a base where a guy just landed, is maybe about to jump and I always use the standard marine bodies for my assault sergeants with power fists or thunder hammers. Just makes sense to me that they may be weighed down a little bit and comes off nicely in the model.

As for your banner bearer, brass rod is the best way to go I think. Easy to clip and VERY durable. So there will be no worries about it breaking off in transport or from an accidental fall from the gaming table.

Hope these ideas help out and I'm looking forward to seeing how you decide to go with the rest of your models.

so this is a space marine army that has been infected by choas and are now chaos marines, or they are spacemarines who ahve adorned themselves with parts of choas tehy have killed?

Since these pis were taken I have added chaos stuff to my new models, trophies, chains, Chaos stars, ect. so ill take more pics tommrow.

@ epil These are recently turned chaos space marines from the howling griffons chapter.

Nice reminds me a little about how I built my Veterans.

You don't need eBay for the jump packs, GW sells them I recall. I do have to comment that one of the barrel marines looks like he mistimed his jump and is in the middle of face planting over it.

Yeah I just suggest eBay because I've had much better luck getting them for a good amount cheaper than directly from GW.

Well ive been working on my fluff so heres the basic idea:



Thes griffons are the remnants of thoes captured at the 5000th annavercary.

They were toutured with all kinds of warp socery and things like that. Then some kind of ritual took place so they could never speek

the likes of the empror again. Their mouths were sewn shut by some king of warp string/enery. They remained in the eye of terror for

5-6 more years then their minds mutated to the point were they cmuicate with their minds. So they develpoed an escape plan. In

which gods of chaos summoned daemons to help them escape.

And after they got out they relized that the gods of chaos helped them not the empror so the gave up on him and are now chaos.

So now there is a legend told to chapter master to chapter master

about the fallen howling griffons, or the silent griffons.

Oh and sence then they have been making raids on forge worlds to steal new equptment form other space marine chapters.

Having never read any (to my knowledge) of orky's posts I cannot comment on his spelling/grammar. Please don't take this the wrong way as I am unaware of your educational level or difficulties but he was justified in comment on your spelling as it took me a couple of reads to understand it. I don't know if there is a spell check, there is on mine and I'm using Google Chrome, I would point out however you could always create the post in whatever Word Processor you have installed on your PC and copy and paste it into your replies.

On a lighter note lets see some more pictures and did you weather your metallics down?
