So recently while assembling more and more of my eldar army and stripping traded models I was brainstorming for a color scheme. I really like ulthwe but I don't want to directly use ulthwe. The background of my craftworld is the youngest of ulthwe were sent to a smaller craftworld which was sent far away from the epicenter of the fall. Many years later they have finally found there way back to the main system and made contact with the other eldar craftworlds. (I'm still fleshing the background out.) So with that in mind they would keep some ulthwe heritage yet it would be changed.


So onto my dilemma, the color scheme. I was thinking of using black or possibly a dark blue or purple with silver and the bone color but I think that is too close to ulthwe. I would still like a sort of ulthwe scheme but what other colors would work with it? I'd like a darker armor color, definitely the bone color for various things, and silver for the lining of the armor. Any ideas?


If anyone has any other ideas also for a dark main armor and the two secondary colors, shoot 'em at me.

watered down Orkhide shade, silver or gold for lining, and a dark red.(maybe scab red?)

Think about the kind of craftworld they went to. It was green then perhaps they would incorporate green into their armour instead of the bleach bone. And if you pick a bright colour anything and black works.

Hm, A dark green might look cool.

I'm a fellow ulthwe player and i suggest what i was going to do before i gave up. i called them Ulthrad, their symbol was a daemonesqe sword/knife stabbing a somewhat ulthwe eye. though the colour scheme was black as normal except their eyes, hands and their two chestplates were red. i know i waffled but i hope this helps

I already have a name for them just need a color scheme.

if your looking for a dullish yet somewhat bright scheme, then ide go for a Monochromatic scheme, using variants of browns,grays etc. like say, for example using bleached bone, bestial brown, Dheneb Stone and a little bit of colour (obviously, thats your choice) would make your army really unique. On the other hand, if you want a full colour scheme, i would go for a Complementary or Analogous paints, like purple and hints of dullish yellow.

I know its quite a bright green, but I think the black really sets it off. And would work well on eldar.

Green also works well with most of the aspect colours, so you can tie them in easily.

I had thoughts of doing a sort of neon green but was unsure of it with the silver. I might do a few test models but only after I finish converting some jet seer council for a tournament next sunday.

Sounds good. If not Silver try a bronze with green. as long as its quite dull it ties in well.

Don’t know if you have decided yet but I really like where you are going with the “bone color”. I have seen a lot of dark purple in the ulthwe armies. So since your craftworld is younger than the rest maybe they have opted for a bolder color……. Maybe a deep red . Still keeping with the same color family. But now you have added a younger and bolder deep red with bone color accents. Anyway looking forward to seeing what you choose.

Hm, maybe. I sort of like the deep reddish purple idea. I have a few guardians from a trade which are black with red helmets and bone facemasks. I rather liked it and switching the black to a dark indigo and the red to a darker red, keeping the bone, and lining with silver. That might work.

I posted a couple of pics from my old Eldar armies. The first one is a dark purple color scheme with a contrasting color of Shadow Grey faded up to Spacewolves Grey. The second is just the standard Ulthwe colors. Hope this helps a little ....

How did you make that shade of purple in the first picture? Is it just a standard gw or other brand or is it a mix?

Man that was a loooong time ago. If memory serves me correctly, I used a mix of Liche Purple and Chaos black for the base coat. I believe the mix was 80/20 purple to black, if it looks too dark just add a bit more liche puprle to the mix. I then highlighted with pure liche purple for the first highlight. Then I did a second highlight with a 50/50 mix of liche purple and warlock purple. I might just have to head down to my local store and pick up those two colors and do some test mixes just to be sure.

That won;t be necessary. I just wanted to know if you remembered. I'll have t give it a whirl though.

Really? i kinda like the lime green.

Oh dear, that is a bright green, lol. I'm still working on this, kind of left the hobby for a bit and am just now getting back into it. Thinking maybe a purple with gray, green and bone. Fleshing out ideas on paper now actually, lol.
