I think apart from being a little ambiguous with the colour scheme it looks good. Blues pinks and purples tend to hide each other. Perhaps stick some white in there t break things up, but otherwise its a solid first effort.

And id do a flat colour on the inside of the cape and wash it, not use 3 colours.

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.

Thanks for the clearer pics.

Firstly, if this is your first mini then great, you have a good foundation to start working on. First points to work on is paint thickness, this can be tricky for a beginner painter. Try and use a mixing palette even if you're not mixing colours, use this to thin down your paint and then apply it to the mini. This will help get a smoother finish on the mini. Your painting is relatively tidy but I would use some brown wash (devlan mud or equivalent) to bring the colours together and to give you a kind of black lining. This will make the model appear to be much neater than it actually is. Try and stick to solid colours to begin with and use washes to shade the mini. Once your confidence grows then start worrying about highlights and advance techniques like layering and wet blending.

Neatness is crucial in painting a good mini above all work on neatness and you will find the other techniques and tricks will follow soon after.

thanks for the help. this isn't my first model, im just a lousy painter and the flash on my camera brings out highlights as seperate colours for some reason.

Well even if it's not your first model then my points still stand. Thinner paints and work on neatness. Everything else will fall into place through practise practise and a little more practise.

I think a blue/red combo would be good! Red power armour - mechright red over chaos black, a layer of red blood after and highlights of blazing orange! Light blue shoulder pads and cloak would contrast well, although the inside of the cape would be better suited as a darker colour, not brown... blue... white.. IDK. Although to be honest, I'm sure you have your own scheme, maybe post that up and we can get a place to work from? Looking good, BTW! Keep it up!

The base is obnoxious. There really is no valid reason for you to have the model that far off the ground or use unadorned terrain bits that large on the base unless you're making a diorama. Then again, if you're making a diorama you don't need a standard sized base for the model.

What is the base composed of exactly? I think a decent way to tidy it up would be to remove the parts under the plank to lower it, but try to keep the lean you have going on. Also, be prepared to cut a little area from the board, as it sticks too far over the edges. I too suggest watering down your paints, it will help immensely. Finally, I think you've got potential with the gold NMM. I admire anybody who does the stuff, I don't even touch it.

Well, I can't change your scheme. Although, no offense, black and purple.... :/ I'm not so sure. Take black Templars for instance, black with white shoulder pads - works, doesn't it? Obviously you can't rip them off.. But yeah maybe stick with the black, maybe have red pads and white trim? o.O Maybe the purple will work.. We'll see! Oh yeah! If you do do black - highlight with greys, notable codex, fortress and... gah, I've forgotten the last one, but it looks almost the same as the others. Gonna post some new pics up for us soon? We anxiously await your work
