Columbus, Oh

Hit the FLGS Monday night, and entered into a game with Clint (don't know if he is a member here). First game with him, nice guy!

We agreed on points, and he had an army list already to go at 2000, so I whipped up a force org at that level. I didn't KNOW how the EC play, so I tried to stick with an "all comers" type of list.

His army was really neat. All female, ex-Sisters of Battle, in hot pink/yellow/green colors. There were some female Dark Elf models as well assisting him in the Biker and Lord categories... I didn't get really good up-close pics sorry to say. The Sonic Blasters and Blastmaster guns were all greenstuffed on top of bolters (limitation of the SoB models). I don't know if his army has a name, but I kept referring to them thru the game as the Sisters of Sin.. so, that is how I am naming them here.

My list -

We grabbed a table and set up rocky terrain and a big ol pyramid! Rocks were 4+ cover and difficult terrain, we decided.

Rolled mission and deployment - Got Seize Ground (3 objectives) and Dawn of War. Clint won the roll to deploy and take first turn.

(the black squares are the objectives.. the 3rd one is in the entrance to the Pyramid.

The Sisters of Sin put 2 of the troops squads into rocky terrain as well as the Demon Princess with Lash..

I deploy a Rhino with a Grey Hunter squad, and Rune Priest behind the Pyramid, outside of the Blastmaster LOS..

I decline an opportunity to Seize Initiative.. and we are ON!

EC turn 1 -

Clint brings on his Predator, and the other 2 troop squads of his Noise Gals, as well as his 2 Obliterators. Everybody runs to get into the rocks, with no shooting this turn.

(blurry pic apologies)

SW turn 1 -

I keep the extra Drop Pod and Swiftclaws in reserve.

I deploy the Land Raider Crusader (containing the Blood Claws, Wolf Priest, and Wolf Guard) and other Rhino in the SE corner, behind a rockpile. LRC moves 12, Rhino moves 6.. and the Landspeeder burn onto the table 24" and hides behind the Pyramid on the west side.

One Drop Pod of Grey Hunters comes down.. mission of this squad is to GET THAT PRINCESS! So, deploying it close by the terrain, and deviating to within 2 inches of the board edge.. they land and hop out.. (whew.. too darn close for comfort!)

The Rhino behind the pyramid scootches forward until the on-board Rune Priest can see the squad in the far NE corner (Pink Gals)

Shooting -

The LRC uses the Machine Spirit to do absolutely nada, as the Spirit cannot seem to find the "on switch" for the Multimelta. The Rune Priests both attempt to use Living Lightning to cause consternation amongst the Pink Gals, but.. all wounds are saved.

The Grey Hunters on the suicide mission all rapid fire into the Daemon Prince.. causing a total of 5 wounds, and (setting a trend for the Sisters) Clint manages to blow 4 of the 5 armor saves, and the Princess goes hurtling back into the warp! (Woo Hoo!)

EC turn 2-

Clint realized at this point that he had failed to deploy his Bikers and Lord at the beginning of turn 1.. so, he treated them as Reserves.. and neither one became available.

The Purple and Green Gals maneuver closer to the Drop Pod Grey Hunters, and the Predator moves up.

Shooting -

Purple and Green Gals unload and pretty much fry every single model in the DP Hunter squad. Bye bye. The Predator shoots the Rhino hiding behind the pyramid and immobilizes it, and adds insult to the injury by taking off the Stormbolter. The Pink Gals blastmaster stuns the Rhino in the SE..

SW turn 2 -

I check, and the Swiftclaws and the other Drop Pod don't seem to be returning my calls.. sigh.

So, the Landspeeder moves around the pyramid to hide behind a megalith, to position for a possible swoop around the back of the Predator next turn. The Land Raider moves forward another 12, and the 2 Rhinos sit around wishing they could move.

Shooting -

The Drop Pod stormbolter pings a Gal outta the rocks. The LRC Machine Spirit takes a break from Tetris to miss the Predator with the MM. One Rune Priest manages to Shake the Predator with Living Lightning, the other one only gets a bad case of Static Cling..

Not the greatest turn for the Get..

EC turn 3 -

Clint manages to alert his Lord that there is a fight awaiting him.. but the Bikers are still stuck in reserve.

The Lord comes flying on, and lands right next to the Landspeeder. The Predator backtracks into the rocks, and the Oblits continue to trudge forward.

Shooting -

The Pink Gals manage to miss the SE Rhino with the squad's Blastmaster. The Oblits morph into Lascannons and attempt to damage the paint on the LRC.. which is ALL they do. The remaining Noise Gals all try to destroy the Drop Pod to no avail. The Yellow Gals brace for the inevitable BloodClaw assault..

Assault -

The Lord hits the Landspeeder with Lightning Claws and peels off the multimelta, leaving the LS unarmed.

SW turn 3 -

SwiftClaw bikers heed the call! (only the second Drop Pod of Hunters is left in reserve for me)

They rumble onto the table, heading towards the Lord, turbo boosting as they go. The Landspeeder retreats to behind the pyramid, ready for a 5th turn objective contesting if needed. The SE rhino moves forward 6 inches, on top of the Objective! The Land Raider moves, and dumps the Blood Claws out right in front of the Yellow Gals..

Shooting -

The Drop Pod fires into the White Gals, picking off another trooper. Nobody shoots over in the west, with the exception of the Rune Priest in the Rhino, who fizzles as he tries to Living Lightning the Pink Gals again. The Rune Priest in the SE Rhino finally pings off one Pinkie with HIS LL attempt. The Land Raider and the Blood Claws fire into the Yellows, removing 4 of them..

Assault -

With whooping and hollering, the Blood Claws hit Yellow Gals.. who manage to take out 2 of them thanks to the darn initiative bonus they have that allows them to hit first. Shrugging off the casualties, the Blood Claws steamroller the Yellow gals, eliminating all but one, who goes down to the Fearless No Retreat wounds, allowing the BC to consolidate into the rocks.

EC turn 4-

Still no Biker Love for the Sisters of Sin..

Purple Gals slide around the rockpile to get in good range of the BC unit, supported by the Oblits. White Gals cannot manage to get over the rocks to get a good line-of-sight to the BC. The Lord moves up to assault the Swiftclaws.

Shooting -

Purple, and Pink Gals all unload into the BC, causing 10 wounds on the squad, and I manage to make 9 saves. Wowsers! The Oblits Lascannon the LRC again, for no result. The Predator shoots at the SE Rhino, Shaking it and blowing off the Stormbolter.

Assault -

The Lord sails into the Blood Claws, hacking and slashing, and totally failing to cause any wounds. Even WITH the twin Lightning Claw rerolls. It was staggering. To add insult to injury, the Swiftclaws attacked back.. and killed the Lord!

SW Turn 4 -

The last Drop Pod drops.. since it is closing in on the end of the game, I decide for an objective grab, and try to stick the pod between the Pyramid and the megalith in front.. right next to the objective in the doorway. True to my scatter rolls this game, it drifts over and lands by the first Drop Pod. The Hunters inside hop out, and train their weapons on the White Gals.

The Swiftclaws turboboost around behind the Pods. The Blood Claws in the rocks move over, and get ready to assault Purples. The Land Raider moves on top of the Objective. The SE Rhino sits where it is, camping as well.

Shooting -

The Drop Pod stormbolter manages to put a wound on an Obliterator! The Land Raider and BloodClaws shoot up Purple squad a bit, leaving 5 models. The Wolf Priest manages to hurt himself as his Plasma Pistol Gets Hot.. dang it! The 2 Rune Priests Living Lightning the Pinkies, doing nothing. I finally remember the Plasma Gun in the SE Rhino.. so I fire it at the Pinkies as well.. and manage to kill the Gunner as his weapon blows. dang it!

The new Hunters in the Pod, only manage to ping 1 of the White Gals off.

Assault -

The Blood Claws attack! Purple squad accounts for 3 more models, but is massacred in the process.. and the BC consolidate behind the LRC.

EC turn 5 -

His Bikers have no choice but to arrive. They come in, and immediately pile into the Swiftclaws... (second time this game I let a fast unit get flank charged! Dang it!)

The Predator does not move, nor do the Pinkies, or Oblits. The White Gals move closer to assault the Hunters that just arrived.

Shooting -

The Oblits morph into Plasma Cannons and seriously hurt the Blood Claws.. reducing them to 4 models plus the Wolf Priest. The Pinkies fire their Blastmaster into the SE rhino, and Immobilize it. (at this point, Clint mentioned that I only have one more turn to try to repair my Rhinos... Doh! I forgot they could self-repair!!!)

The White Gals pick off 2 of the Hunters with assault fire, and pile in. Likewise, the Bikers shoot up the Swiftclaws killing one.

Assault -

The White Gals and the Hunters mix it up.. Hunters losing 4 of their guys, to 2 Gals.. but hold their position.

The Chaos Bikers claw up the Swiftclaws, removing a wound on the Attack Bike, and then losing 2 of their number to the Thunderhammer on the Wolf Guard. They decide to stick with it.

SW Turn 5 -

The Blood Claws decide to take the fight to the Obliterators. Remembering this turn to check, the Rhino behind the pyramid un-Immobilizes itself with a "6"! It, and the Landspeeder, head towards the Pyramid Objective.. I know I cannot get there this turn, but if the game continues, I will be in a good spot.

Shooting -

The 2 Drop Pods fire into the Oblits, killing the wounded one! The Land Raider unloads on the remaining Oblit, Assault cannon and Hurricane Bolters make short work of it.. The Blood Claws are no longer sure what to do... so they run back into the shadow of the LRC. And, the 2 Rune Priests fail to kill anything with Living Lightning. (I really think this power stinks vs Power Armored opponents.. lol)

Assault -

The Bikers kill Bikers.. each side losing 1 model, so the fight continues!

Roll to see if game ends.. Yes, it does! So, turn 5 was the last turn.

Final Score - SW - 2 Objectives, EC - 0 Objectives. Space Wolf Victory!

I have to say that Clint's Armor Saves for his HQ units really helped me. I was (terrified/respectful/anxious) about the Lash Prince, so made it a priority to eliminate. I had NO dream of killing it on turn 1..

Units of the Match -

SW- Land Raider Crusader with Blood Claws inside.. 600+ points, but, very hard hitting and durable
EC - any unit with Sonic Blasters.. those things sprayed shots everywhere, and whittled my troops down fast

Lackluster units -

SW - Landspeeder.. did nothing, never fired a shot
EC - Bikers not wanting to show up until the end.. (Lash Prince being a close second)

Incredible report! The pictures are always great and can often reduce the amount of writing required.

Rhinos repair in the shooting phase instead of firing. You couldn't have repaired then moved away to do other things.

The report was nice, though the EC army was questionable. So many other armies do mid-range fire so much better than EC can do, for far fewer points. Definitely work better as a close range army. And the 40 point price tag on blastmasters is just awful. Has he tried other builds?
