Hi guys. Ive been floating about on this forum for a good couple of years now and ive finally decided to show up and put up a blog on one of my armies to get my self involved a bit more as I tend to just mill over every one else stuff and loot ideas, this way some people might get some back
So my marine army is comming on for about 2 years old it started as 1 of the marine company boxed sets that came out with apoc *always a good way to start* and ive piled on from there. I hant even finished getting through the first box because ive added so many new bits to it. To begin with I used the Dark angel codex but it is now being changed *slowly* into a *slamander style* marine army based on a vulcan counts as techmarine based HQ. I call the chapter the Corpsers, they have a mostly bone colour armour simler to the deathwing as they used to get used as Angels of Absolution, the Dark angels successors which stop the people at GT going "they aint dark angels im telling the judge" but have mostly green icons and shoulder pads and the entire army is painted almost completely with the gamesworkshop washes there is very few normal paintes on the models which although in the initial pics im ptting up you might not be able to tell much it creates a really unique look, even thought it means you have to pray them white which makes me rage cos the white spy is rubish.
Right picture time I thought I would bigin with just the three tactical squads and my command squad to begin with so the first post was not to big. PS I dont has a proper picture boothe so the lighting is a bit blah for the sake of what colour is right the command squad is probably the best picture for true to life colour. Ill take some pics of their rhinos and things later on.
Hope That worked
Note the command squad does not have a medic as I have not and probably wot use them in a marine list. Also the commander is well beaten up he suffered from a guy opening his box lid on him smahing him to bits and crushing his halo at my local club but there you got they will be in retirement soon.
Yeah so the army is painted to a gamming standard I went for a fast but cool colour system as I hate painting marines in mass or even at all with solid paints butn the wash is so easy when you get the hang of it. These models where the first in the army as I put more this up you hopefully will think they get a bit smoother because I have goten better with the washes. I am very happy with the bases I think they make the bases I think you can make a really crap model look faily good with a decent base.
So nice to be on here what do you folks think of the basic looks and idea of the army? Ill post som close ups of some of my dreads next so you can see some better pics of bases and what the colours and like not from a distance.

Look really nice, especially for just being mainly washes, could drill your barrells if you have a drill, or the patience You're also quite right about bases, an awesome model on a plain base just looks a bit wrong and spoils the whole thing. Nice work mate

The entire commpany is not painted, YET in big capitals. It is well on its way. The problem is that I have brought lots of stuff and added it to the battle company so the army is a lot bigger than a company. I have 10 dreadnoughts for example and 20 terminators so it slows things down but its getting there. Painted I have. 30 tactical marines 5 assault marines 1 commander 1 command squad 1 master of the forge 1 attack bike 5 assault marine 1 predator 3 dreadnoughts 1 venerable dreadnought 1 landraider redeemer 5 terminators 5 rhinos 10 devestors *as in 1 ten man squad* work in progress I have 10 heavily converted tactical marines to be my vulcans squad 1 heavily converted tech marine to be my vulcan 1 heavily converted predator 1 heavily converted baneblade 1 drop pod 1 heavily converted space hulk terminator terminator *the one with a thunderhammer and storm sheild* 1 iron hands forge father *the us only direct order guy hes cool* 3 vindicators 10 assault terminators 5 normal terminators 1 thunderfire cannon 2 paint striped rhinos from an onld marine army of mine that have all forge world armour and doors. a converted command rhino *that one that can call down bombardment* 1 sisters of battle repressor *gonna use as a rhino cos they look cool* Still boxed 15 assault marines 5 maore terminators 3 more rhinos lost track of devestors about 40 more tactical marines. 2 of the old games day only commanders the ones with a bolter and a power fist. 2 techmarines with just servo arms. and I think I have 2 techmarines with servo harness's laying around I know theres at least 1. Now Im depressed lol ow year 5 dreadnoughts and an iron clad need painting to Automatically Appended Next Post: Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah in real life they are more like a darker version of bleached bone if you can imagine that. Theres one guy at my club who is perminantly on about the gun barrels and I just dont I have a drill but Ive done it befor but I suffer from shakey hand sindrome and its strange cos I can paint but when I drill a bolter It will come straight out the side so I just leave it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Righty ho Ive Got some pics of the dreadnoughts here aswell for you. I will start with the venerable dreadnought This is my little baby. Now, I got the basic model off ebay from a guy I have now become kind of email mates with nice bloke I will have to get him to come on here. anyway he had put up this dread that had the feet, knee plates and engine from a throne of judgement aswell as the big book from a dark angels sprue. I saw it a though gak I havin that. Anyway when I got it most of the metal bits had broken off and other things wernt as i liked. so I pulled it all apart. I filled the knees flat to get all the inquisitor bits off and then put the terminator symbol and little sheet on filled flat the symbols on the back added some storm sheilds, took the book off and razed it which gave me room to add a square plate to which I added the skull from forgeworld. The claw arm had a metal bit on the shoulder which looked pants so that came off. I then cut up a twin linked lascannon and an inquisitor scale multi melta to make the multi melta arm by which stage all that was left to do was so green stuff work and adding little things like purity seals, the big smoke launcher and if you notice the search light is in the hull next to the multi melta. Thats one dread Another one and thats the last painted one. A group shot so you can see how they differ from each other. As you can see I really am going for the Vulcan theme with this army all multi meltas and heavy flamers Ive tryed really hard on the bases of the dreads to make them all look different aswell. I use a lot of materials to get them all unique. I hope you like how they have come out. To answer the above question the chapter name is the Corpsers dunno why Im just crap with names

Wow, really loving those dreads.
Do you mind going over your painting technique and the colours your have used?
I've been thinking of starting a small SM army, and was wanting to do a kind of bone white armour colour on them, and yours just looks great.

The colours are really easy. I start by spraying every thing white on the sprue but it doesnt have to be to heavy. Then I build the models leaving off the bits like bolter and back packs and then spray them white again. Its really important at this stage to get a good coat of white but ive learnt the hard way to do this in nice light coats not one heavy coat as white is a lot harder to spray than black. Then just cover the whole model with a good coat of GRYPHONNE SEPIA and dont worry about being to heavy as the washes are really good at thinning themselves out aslong as you dont go stupid. Note it is harder to get it right on tanks. Bits like the shoulder pads are done by just doing one good coat of THRAKA GREEN on top of the GRYPHONNE SEPIA, I apply two coats of green to the chest plates to make them stand out a bit more. Things like cracks in the armour vents gun barrels anything that would normally be metal get a coat of BADAB BLACK. Purity seals and any other papery bits get painted BLOOD RED which coats on top of the GRYPHONNE SEPIA perfectly in one coat and then get a coat of BADAB BLACK their top bits get painted Skull White and then THRAKA GREEN. I think that covers most of the colour system the dreads have some blue bits which are just ICE BLUE then given a coat of ASURMEN BLUE which I think looks cool on the search lights. There are a few more bits on tanks mostly to do with mud but Ill cover that when Ive posted some tank pics.

If you click the pics and zoom in every thing looks ok. I hant really got anything to make a lighting box out of. Any ideas? Automatically Appended Next Post: Right Ive made myself a light box ish type thing on one of my computer desks out of a big sheet of plasticard and a desk lamp and taken some pictures of the wip marines for vulcan I think they look better now. Also I twigged that they could be a bit dark an obscured because I was using the auto addjust option when I put them on dakka and it does say that its not good for deatil and light things but as Im a dakka newb I missed that so its probably best if I take new pics and replace all of the once on my earlyer posts so you guys get a better look, dont want people ignoring the blog cos my pictures are gak. Any way lets see what these come out like for you. Right thats how far Ive got so far as you can see im doing one befor the rest to see what the metal comes out like against the light bone of the armour. it seems to be looking good. One of the techmarine bolters needs some greenstuff work befor a paint its silver and the vetsgts *plasma pistol* nets the flash taken off the top before that gets painted metal. All of the shoulder pads are done apart from one symbol and I need to do a bit of orange highlighting on the chest eagals but only lightly. The basic idea of these guys is that within the Corpsers there is a sub cult a bit like the deathwind in the darkangels but its not about hiding secrets its about gathering technological relics and these guys all the chapters techmarines and the guy am going to use as vulcan are ment to be a part of that cult which is why they have a varient of the colours to the rest of the chapter that is more like the techmarines that they spend their time working for and why they have they half black and white hand. Ill be using that as the cult symbol. Thanks to the iron hands and freedom to paint things whatever colour you want. They also have a tendancey to be more mechanical than their brothers as you can see in my pics although these are the 4 less modded of the squad. I thought I would test the simple ones. Now I got some pics of my master of the forge. No scrap that dakka is doin a wee bita work on the site so ill put them pics up in a bit ill go get on with taking new dread pics. Anyway are these pics better for you guys? Do you like the techy style marines and the fluff for them? Any ideas on how to improve my picture box thingy? Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok here are those master of the forge pictures for you. What do you guys think of this fella. Once again hes got the vulcan theme, a thunder hammer and combi melta so he looks hard arse. Done a little mod on the servo arm so he has two big arms instead of the pidly little one and he has the body from the thunder fire cannon gunner which are rare as gold gak to get hold of as I dint have the thunder fire cannon back then. Anyway I hope you all like him im now uploading new improved dread pictures on to dakka. and talking of thunderfire cannons three 80mm bases just turned up in the post from our freind jeff who Im sure you all know for me to base the cannon itself onjust got to mod the little legg on the back so they dont look like they are floating. As always all comments welcome. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here are the new dreadnought pictures. one two three and now the venerable. I think they are a lot better, well they arnt going to get any better where I am anyway lol So hopefully you can have a proper look at them now I dint do the auto addjust on these ones either so that might help. Im going to do some more work on the four marines today and might start on my converted space hulk guy.

Where abouts in the uk are you silver maybe one day you will in a tournament or something Its a nice thing to say. My mates keep saying the pics arnt doing them justice but im working on my photos. Somnicide yeah I see where your comming from about people using them on the new dreads thats a good idea if you make one send me a pic I like crimbo fists but ever since I had a purple tau army and it kept getting greazy finger marks ive had an aversion to them *probable spelling mistake there* Yesterday I dint do anything that I said I wanted to I got tied up with the thunderfire cannon I am now taking some wip shots of it but my camm just died so its recharging I will get them up asap. Also something I want to ask you all to help me with. The blog doesnt seem to be getting that much interest? Am I doing something wrong? Is my stuff a bit boring or am I just posting the wrong models? As I said my army is huge and I have lots of work in progress so whatever parts you want to see before I get round to just putting it up or any of my wips that are all listed in an above post just ask an I will post pictures and respond as fast as I can Thanks guys

Right I have finished the base and the tracks of the thunder fire cannon but I wont take any pics untill the morning when I can hopefully take some more good pictures in daylight.
I could not do any work on the gun because I was not at home and when I went to spry it the two cans I had with me both ran out half way through or I would of finished the whole cannon.
Anyway never mind Im now gong to go find the parts for the techmarine as hes not going to be given the normal servo parts.

Right got some nice pictures of the cannons tracks for you.
Hope you like it so far just noticed I need to do the little light above the eagle.
All the tanks in the army have very muddy tracks like that on them I dont like the fresh look I stick with one solid brown colour because of the light brown colour of the army if I use multiple lighter tones of brown on top of the mud I think it might loose some of the effect.
What are your veiws? all comments welcome as always. now going to spray the gun.

The spray is hard to get right. you have to waste a lot.
Basicly put your models on a box to spray them.
Shake up your can well.
Spray it into thin air for a couple of seconds to get it going *wastefull but you have to*
Spray it on the box away from the models and you are looking for it to be a bit watery but really to make sure there are no powdery bits. The powdery bits ruin models if you get that and then wash them it will *invert you will get light resess and dark razed sections which look crap I have a dev squad that had that happen I will put pics up tomorrow so you can see how not to do it.
When you are happy it is not powdery then spray but very lightly do a couply of light coats not a heavy one, and it helps if you give them a light spray when they are on the sprue its good for the hard to reach bits when the model is built.
Also Im a bit lucky I have this gak hot paint striper that will strip anything reguardless of how much paint it has on it if its plastic metal or resin with no damage to the model and you dont even soak it you just slap it on and take it straight of but its like £12 a liter. Ill put it on here at some point with some before and after pics just to show I aint making it up because it sounds to good to be true.
As for the wash you can slap it on but you ahve to smothe it out fast if you are to heavy its easy on the men but on tanks it can be really hard you have to really use a tank brush *which is hard since nobworkshop discontinued the best brush in their line* to smothe it as you put it on. I paint tanks a panel at a time or you get lines where it dried befor you got to move it along.
I will be putting rhino and landraider pictures up tomorrow.
Hope that helps you out mate thanks for posting
