Hello

My current stock of brushes are showing their age and I am looking for some good quality brushes that are firm and a wide variety from fine detail to tank brushes.

thank you.

I generally use american painter brushes. Good quality, not horribley expensive, and available at your neighbourhood Michael's craft store. They have a grey-ish handle.

I was gonna ask a similar question so instead will just piggyback here.

Ignoring the issue of price (pretend I have a gift certificate) how are the new GW brushes?

I use Windsor Newton Series 7 brushes. They tend towards the more expensive side, but with a bit of care will last much longer than cheaper ones will.

I buy cheap brushes from Micheal's for stuff like drybrushing and base coats. They are cheap, but for $0.79 USD, I can live with that.
I have a few GW brushes for detailing and fine lines. I just bought a GW stipple brush, but I haven't used it yet.

@Somnicide: At my FLGS, GW brushes go for around $3-5 USD a brush.

Oh, I just reread your post Somni... LOL, NM... They are pretty cool. I don't have enough painting experience to critique them, though.

For all of my detail brushes and non-drybrushing uses I go with Loew-Cornell. They're a bit pricy like most good quality brushses but so far the set I'm using have shown few signs of age and few lost bristles after around a year and a half of use.

I can recommend Rosemary & Co. Pure Kolinsky Sable brushes. Great quality and very affordable. I went with Series 33, but Series 22 is also very popular. Search CMON or other forums with rosemary for feedback on their brushes - I haven't found anything but positive feedback. See this thread for example. Customer service is great and shipping was very fast - my order was dispatched within the same day.

+1 for these.

They aren't overly expensive, no more than GW, and are much better quality. They bristles are much smoother and don't tend to leave as many brush marks as GW brushes.
