Something different from my usual sallies.
I wanted a rhino for a dwathwatch squad or sternguards that will be former deathwatch salamanders in my army.
Sculpted up some quick doors and such and painted it in anice DW colour scheme.

On the doors are latin anti-xenos quotes that fit into a deathwatch theme.
The sculpt looks better painted as it is quite rough and I didnt put a lot of effort into making it smooth, this is a for-personal use thing only so I didnt care that much but I was surprised with the end result.

This is a one of a kind rhino but I promised "porkuslime" that I would cast up one piece for him.
I might cast up one more if anyone has something nice to trade for it though.

Anyway, hope you like it and that GW finally does some decent DW rules.

"Very lovely work! Although what's with the "scaly" fenders? Sallies holdover?

Yeah, the scaly extra armour thingies is to make it fit into my sallie army. The squad are sallie former-deathwatch marines after all

So you have a whole unit of Deathwatch drawn completely from the Salamanders that have left the Deathwatch but are still using Deathwatch colors? Interesting.

Well, not following correct fluff I know but I wanted my sternguards to stand out a bit.
Besides, there might be a possibility to use salamanders former deathwatch marines together if the situation demands it, the Salamanders are pragmatical after all.

Deathwatch members (former) have the right to wear DW shoulderpads and have one arm black/metal so I guess a black rhino for them isnt to far from impossible.

Yeah, I like the idea of the usual mellow and humane Sallies having trouble working for the INQ and so being a bit of "outsiders" when they go back to the Chapter. Maybe they are mustered together into a single unit by sympathetic superiors as a sort of support group. Well that phrase makes it sound too pansy but I think you can tell what I mean.

I can't decide if the greenstuff or the painting is more impressive. That's my only complaint!

Kick ass, maynard! Kick ass, indeed!

I don't know enough about the fluff to comment on the that, but I think the panels have come out brilliantly. The angular letters give it a runic type feel which despite being in Latin seem to fit the INQ nicely. I also like the marbling effect on them. Looks like a nice piece all in all.

I like being able to take a figure either as part of a Deathwatch unit or as a single Vet Sgt in my regular army, so I don't have two color schemes representing current/prior DW service.

Lovely job. Your interpretation of ancient roman tablets works very well, and the painting certainly does the sculpting justice

Nope, the =I= symbol is GWs property.
I might make this again some time (and put some quality effort into it) using a public domain "papal cross" instead, pretty close to the =I= to be usable.

But this is eventually far into the future, meanwhile I think I could trade a piece or two away.

Deathwatch is one of my favorite chapters due to its coloring. But one question , why is the skull like a martian o_o?

Because this was a quick and sloppy sculpt made just for fun and personal use

I think I´ll make the sternguards with one arm DW painted and with some letter-ish DW pad on one shoulder.

Deathwatch is a very seldom-seen bit of the inquisition these days, and you do them justice with your excellent application of greenstuff and paint. I applaud! BTW: Fantasy Flight Games is releasing a Deathwatch RPG later this year that you'd probably draw a lot of inspiration from.

Phew, in that case please make the skull with 1 cybernetic eye in all of the DW icons !

I would place order right away when its done!

Kinda ilke NMM but with no realistic light reflections. just NMM made to look "dull" and stone-ish.

Brilliant, brilliant work, Pyriel-

I've got a question about the "tablets" too, how did you choose the angles/placement of said NMM horizon lines/reflections? Also, what thinking did you use to decide which would be subtler/grey and which would be smaller, blacker ones? Or did it just "feel right"? I really want to do something similar but lack the confidence.

I think a cross lorraine would be more visually interesting and closer visually to the inquisition than a papal cross.
