Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks! More pictures posted, got further...

Taking inspiration from this thread: http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=43927

Wanted to try making my own for an upcoming event and to add to my arsenal. I saw some cheap trukks at a dollar store, so I picked up enough to make six warbuggies.

I planned on using three of my more beaten up deffkoptas for the conversion project:

I cut the tires off the trucks:

I also cut off the front bumper and side exhaust pipes to see if I could make something of them.

Hand sized bolt cutters and some sprue-cutters did the job.

Sprue cutter + file, and I'm cutting down the deffkoptas.

A little bit of sizing comparison made me realize that the tires I had gotten for the job were too big! Fortuntanately, I had bid on some e-bay auctions for tires - I got a total of 12 tires for $1 apiece (including shipping) - they showed up after I bought the little trucks and I was lamenting having spent the money for something I wouldn't need, but as it turns out...those 12 tires are exactly enough to make the three deffkoptas I need!

So I'm trying to figure out how to hold the wheels together. I don't have any circular plasticard, so I cut up a pencil into the lengths I wanted, and cut up a red pen. The innards turned out to be too thin, so I ended up cutting an ink-pen into similar shapes.

Primed the tires and assembled them:

Here's all three of my deffkoptas cut down and filed down to size:

A closer look at the back - that slot is going to have to get filed down some more because of how my pencil/pen axles fit on there.

Making my wheels. I discovered that the paint on the pencils pulls off from the superglue very easily, so I shaved the paint off so I could superglue wood to plastic. I intend to greenstuff them in place for security.

First one put together:

Side shot. I discovered that levelling the wheels is best accomplished by setting the frame onto the axle while they're on the table to make sure all four wheels are level with the ground.

Underneath shot:

Two of them:

Right now, I have all three assembled. Things I still need to do:

1. Greenstuff the axles in place for stability.
2. Greenstuff over the holes left by my cutting and filing.
3. Gubbins put over the spots left by my filing and abuse.
4. Potentially, I'd like to build plasticard axle hiders like in the link I posted at the top - I've done some experimenting without success yet.
5. The whole thing is going to need to be reprimed when its finished converting.
6. Rokkit buggies have pintle-mounted rokkits, not hull-mounted. For facing purposes, I might take a random missile, or the rokkit ammo thingies I didn't put in my Loota Deffguns and make a little stand showing a pintle-mounted rokkit as well.
7. Painting of course!

Second round of pictures! Greenstuffed the axles in, did some filing away and cutting of things on the sides to allow room for me to get the exhaust pipes in.

Post priming:

Got them painted and finished assembling, so here's the pictures of the finished product!

Here's with the exhaust pipes put on - oversized ork vroom vroom:

And...that's it! Rokkit Buggy is all done.

Got the axles green stuffed for secondary bonding, covered up the gaps and stuff where I drilled - need to play with plasticard and see what happens and get some gubbins to go in there too.

Looking good. I converup the axles on my conversions with a bit of green stuff: just make something gearbox-like and square it up a bit, adding some gubbinz if necessary.

If I could see the step by step on the plasticard, I would have done it too, but I can't figure it out.

Stuff is getting painted right now, and I'll post pics tonight of the in-progress buggies and the exhaust pipes - I had to do some filing/cutting inside the axles / off the sides of the deffkopta bodies to make room for those oversized exhaust pipes to fit in.

I still say your color scheme is blinding, but that's a very cool conversion you've done.

Well, my wife chooses the colors (as they are her orks) so hey.

Also, I've figured out what to do with all those tires - I'm going to take the Zzap guns / Kannons from my battlewagon sets (since I'll never use them) and turn them into gretchin artillery.
