Excellent!

By chance, are there any rulings about the Necrons Codex in there?

(Ha! Couldn't resist Gwar! )

Thanks for point this out - as I know I would have missed it otherwise!

Off-hand, the only issue they didn't resolve was the Bonripper has to be the General issue.

A lot of clean up in that document. Definitely answered the biggest issues that I was aware of.

Yea, that's the only one I caught left out. I will say I'm happy with most all of the rulings, but two still irk me:

> Doomwheel can apparently 360 charge despite all that about moving like a chariot (am I the only one shocked more and more that this thing costs 150 points? Damn.)
> 'Suggested' base size for the HPA is the least convenient and most expensive (in time or money) to construct

Now that it's no longer an issue for contention, I wonder if the consensus on the Doomwheel will change? This ability is what pushes it above the HPA in the usefulness category. Not to mention you can get a doomwheel and a WLC for less points then the HPA. The Doomwheel has consistently been my MVP since I started playing the new book.

Biggest things that I saw:

1. Slave torpedo is gone - errata'd to "additional rank of 5 or more slaves" = Good.
2. Pretty much everyone who isn't a clanrat/slave loses their "adding ranks to LD". Of course, how often do you see multiple ranks of rat ogres, but tones down giant rats and such. = Good
3. Blade of Corruption causes 2 wounds with no AS when you roll double 1s to hit = Ouch.
4. Warpstone tokens and Storm Banner are one-use only = Finally!
5. Master Moulders, being champions, have to go in the front rank of a mixed unit = That sucks.
6. Doomwheel's now have a 360 random distance charge - Wow. That almost puts it at the broken level as far as points go.
7. Doomwheel lightning bolts auto-hit = Good.
8. The warlitter now makes the Warlord US3, so no more killing blow on him = Great!
9. HPA should be on 60mm x 100mm bases - yeah for all the extra Screaming Bell bases I have laying around. I think 50x100 is fine, but at least it'll keep the 50mm x 50mm guys from sneaking them around.
10. Weapons teams and Jezzails are all US2 - no more -1 to hit. Curious about that as they only have 1 wound, but oh well.
11. If another character joins the Screaming Bell, they are unbreakable but cannot leave the unit until the machine is destroyed.
12. Screaming Bells/Plague Furnace have LD 0, so are vulnerable to LD spells and Blade of Eternities.
13. PCBs within 12" of a Plague Furnace have LD8 or stubborn 5.
14. No LOS needed on shooting the Doomrocket.
15. Template weapons do not randomize when fired into combat with Skaven slaves. = Wow I wonder where I'll place those warpfire thrower templates . . ..
16. Plague Censers only cause 1 wound to a multi-part model, tested off the highest toughness and then randomized if failed. Basically nerfs running a plague censer into a stegadon or EOTG and killing the whole crew in 1 turn.
17. Fleeing HPA cause impact hits against friendly models.
18. The dreaded 13th spell against units with characters in them. Characters are not affected if the unit has 5 or more models in it. If you roll high enough to affect all the models in the unit, the unit is replaced by clanrats and the character is moved to 1" away.

Obviously with 8 pages of FAQ, didn't cover everything. These are just some of the things that I saw which were important/people had questions about. I thought it was a very good FAQ - some of them are somewhat confusing like the Doomwheel 360 charge and others, but hey what they say goes!

I was initially confused by the errata'd section that hacked through all the moulder 'strength in numbers' rules, but there's a FAQ clarifying that packmasters still let the unit count its ranks towards Ld. It's when those guys get shot out that the unit reverts to whatever its base Ld is.

As to the HPA base size, note that it's merely a suggestion, and note that those of us who went with 50x50 bases didn't necessarily do it to grab an advantage. I chose 50x50 because it fit my conversion better and because a larger base size would have allowed for more feed attaks when flanked (and my HPA is continually flanked) ...

Man, look at a HPA's stats. No way it sits on a 50x50. It's at least Stega/dragon sized.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Dude, its stats are almost identical to a giant's, which is 100% acceptable on a 50x50. The a-bomb's impact hits are maybe the best parallel with other chariot-sized things (chariots, stegs), but now even minos get impacts so meh. To me, a monster on a chariot base = T6 large target. Excepting the great demons, I think this may hold up fairly well.

If I sense people's panties getting all bound up over it, I have a second 50x50 covered in gribbly skulls and things that I can trail behind the a-bomb so he's easier to hit with stone throwers ... but I suppose I'll also be taking my extra feeds, thanks

Well, it solves a lot of rules questions, which is nice. The 360 charge thing is crap, but a lot less broken than other things in the game (read: the entire daemons dex) so I won't complain about that. Glad they finally got this done, and let's get working on the next dwarf book, hey GW?

I was really hoping they would change the wording on the Dreaded 13th Spell from "remove models" to "take wounds" on an infantry unit. I know it doesn't go off often but really if it does it's either impossible to dispel due to the incredibly high roll or just straight irresistible and it basically one shots Ogre sized units without any hope of survival. Any unit in an Ogre Kingdom's army (gnoblars don't count) is too small to withstand 4D6 models and that can't be fixed in the next book...

Otherwise I think most of that is pretty reasonable.

Something else they didn't answer...Mounted characters in a unit affected by the 13th spell when there are less than 5 rank and file models.

Why would GW have Boneripper be worth no VPs? That's ridiculous... It would make more sense to have it worth some fraction of the total points for the character... right?

Sort of irrelevant to me, but it is good to see GW has been keeping up with FAQs fairly well lately. Still maybe a month or two slower than I might like, but that is a lot of FAQ compared to what we usually see, so yay.
