So Ive been talking about doing this for a while, and thanks to my tax refund, Ive decided to start it. My army is based upon circa First Gulf War Marines in desert camies with modern equipment. This army is being fielded in an upcoming tournament at my game store. Long story short, 6 valkyries, 2 vendettas, 5 sqauds of vets with shotguns and 3 meltas, and Colonel Straken with 3 meltas and astropath. I ordered the M16A2s with underslung shotguns, AT-4's and all the other equipment from the assault group.

M16's count as shotguns, AT-4's count as meltas, 1911 ACPs count as laspistols, and knives count as power swords (hey, put a KABAR in a Marine's hand, it ignores armour saves)

Here is what I have so far. What Im planning on doing, is painting up my valks to look like marine support aircraft. I am also going to model Straken as Chesty Puller. Feedback is more than welcome!

takes about 3 weeks to go from England to the US but worth the wait! The AT-4's, MOLLE packs, and pistols are also from there.

Painting the rest of the squad tonight. Need to finish the rest of the AT-4 gunners and sgts and then get to modeling Chesty. Look for Chesty in a day or so!

Only problem is - IG is weak-sauce when compared to the might of the US Marine Corps. You should do Space Marines to signify the "on duty" Marines and Chaos Space Marines to stand in for the ones on liberty.

The Chesty model is rad. I think you've got a good thing going. Can't wait to see them painted up.

Got Chesty and my astropath primered up.. Going to try and get the command squad painted up in the next day or two. Tournament is coming up, hoping to get one vet squad painted and the command squad before then. After that, Im going to start working on beautifying my valkyrie's bases with some gruesome war scenes.

Love your work man. Your weapon replacements are brilliant! I am starting an IG army as well. Hoping to also use a modern day military theme for mine, too. Keep 'em coming!

I'm not going to model themafter characters sorry. But, I am thinking of making some of the valkyrie bases look like Parris Island. Have DIs yelling at guys, recruits doing pullups haha.

I was also thinking of naming each model after a Marine killed in OIF and OEF-Afghanistan though.

How did you do the EGA on Chesty's cover? Is that greenstuff or paint?

A very fine paint brush.. Its obviously not perfect, but gives a general shape of the EGA.

Just an update for everyone who cares, had the tournament yesterday. Beat one nids army (12 missile pods and 18 meltas help), tied another nids army in a capture and control match, and lost to chaos (valks are surprisingly fragile to meltas.. go figure haha). First time playing the finished army so Im happy with those results, time to tweak my tactics a bit.

As for the painting, now I dont have to freak out about having a playable army, Im going to finish sanding down the rest of the helmets, primer and paint the army. Ill give it about 2 weeks before I finish. Then Ill move onto the valkyries. Going to give them scenic bases and add some cool conversions to the insides of them.

However, this army is in danger of being put on hold. Due to military bureaucracy, Im not going to OCS anymore and Im going enlisted and may be shipping out to PI in a month, but hopefully Ill get it finished before then. Thanks all!

Good luck at Parris Island. What's your MOS or the Marine Corp equivalent?

They use MOS's. Its weird, going officer before, you dont get to pick haha, now they're letting me pick. Im probably going 0311, infantry.
