Hey there guys,
this is my first post (aside from introduction) and I've been doing WH for three weeks now, so be kind. I recently got my squad of GK Terminators in the mail and spent the day painting one! I'm creating an allied SOB and GK army, hence the SOB symbol. Here he is so far...

C&C welcome!

Very nice looking!
I especially like the power-sword of yours. And is that heraldry or whatshallicallit freehand or "sticky"? If it is freehand, it's very nice looking!

Space Marines: 10/2/5

Excellent work for someone who's not been in the hobby long - there are many people who've been doing it for ages and couldn't get that standard. The force weapon is especially good. Have you used washes? Metallics benefit from heavy washes in my experience - try badab black on the silver joints and recesses, and delvan mud on the gold details

@Million Thanks man, yeah i got washes. Though a tutorial told me to use inks so I did that instead. I used watered down black and blue ink for the recesses. I think next time Ill just use badab black. Oh Devlan Mud for gold parts you say? I was trying to decide between that and Gryphonne Sepia. In the end I went with Sepia, maybe Ill just use Devlan Mud next time.

I also used a Green wash for the sword, i thought it gave it a nice tinge.

Thanks again!

Yeah that's quite nice- especially for an early model.

My army is better than a bear- It's like a bear times two.

Ooooo yay, my first chance to try my hand at a tutorial.

So for the sword I went for a blue lightning feel.

1. Always work with reference. I drew my reference and am too lazy to scan it. But just type in "blue Lightning" in google images.

2. You'll notice lightning is lightest at its thickest parts. So keep that in mind whilst you're highlighting.

3. I based the sword with enchanted blue (3-4 thin coats should do)

4. Next I used a mix of enchanted blue and ice blue (ratio is up to you) to create the inital lightning out-line. Remember that lightning strands taper off the further you go away from the central spire. I should have made my inital outline thicker to create a more dramatic overall effect. But alas this was my first time doing it, so live and learn.

5. Now its simply a matter of highlighting from here. I went straight to pure Ice Blue. Remember to keep the same shape as your outline and that lightning is lightest in the thickest parts.

6. The final highlight was basically Skull White with a lil bit of Ice Blue. Only use this is the most thickest parts. This is important as this will really make it look lightning-y. And yes lightning-y is word...

7. Next I washed it with a HEAVILY watered down Blue Ink. But if you can use Asurman Blue wash.

8. Finally I washed it with a green wash (cant remember its name.

And there you are, one lightning power sword. I'm yet to master it, but thats how I make it.

I'll be doing a flame sword on my other GK terminator

Cheers!
