Hello fellow Dakkaites!

For the last years I have been sculpting other projects for clients resulting in a forced pause on my own bugs at biodiversity project.
After reading the new bug dex I think its about time to get back on what I love the most and end the hibernation.

Im a bug on a mission and my mission is to flesh out this list of bugs in this year :

- 1 Hive Tyrant
- 3 Zoanthropes in a Mycetic Spore
- 30 Genestealers (already sculpted)
- 16 Hormagaunts (already sculpted)
- 16 Hormagaunts
- 24 Termagants
- 18 Gargoyles
- Trygon prime
- Tervigon
- 2 Hiveguards ( will convert my already sculpted 2 tyrant guards)
- Tyrannofex

This list will be called Hive Fleet Pupa

And since no blog is a blog without pictures here is a prototype for my 24 Termagants.
Keept it a very simple/fast convo because all my termas will be like this and their numbers never comes small.

Also for the first time I'm actually painting my bugs

Since Im always a busy fella I will only create 1 blog with wips and update it... at dakkas and another at warpshadow.

Well, I'm a huge fan of your work, so you know I'll be following this project avidly.

It looks as though (along with other conversions) you've bent the gaunt's tail? If so, I definitely approve -- those straight tails are one of the things I like least about GW's gaunt figures. In a horde, they look kind of silly, IMO. And 'Nids should never look silly.

Great start, Nav.

Nice termagant, it's got an equine quality I like.

You do need to tidy up the neck area on it though.

There seems to be some acclaim behind your work Navarro so I'm interested in what comes about in your Tyranid army.

I like the changes you made to the termagaunt. The head looks good and I really like the gun on the back, it reminds of something from Alien for some reason. Also, the base is nice, very Tyranid-esque.

Looking forward to what you end up doing with the army!

Navarro, you are mad skilled.

That being said, the only thing I don't like on your mockup is the ripper as a head. I think you'd be better off with the standard termigaunt head. Though, as you said, it is an early concept model, so maybe you have plans to blendthe ripper into the neck/shoulders better.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

I also dont like the straight tails on all of them, its kind of unrealistic so I bended this one and will bend most of them also with my trusty lighter.

I think the acclaim you mention is not about my work but about all cool bug things in space... and I have builted some buggers in the past Check Buglands site on my signature for some of them.

Will try to smooth neck but head will remain ripper, since it makes this critter look like less cerebral and more animal... besides i already have spidergaunts with gaunt normal heads ( except the extra pair of eyes)

Never liked the gun on hand look of termas I think this mini biovore is more fitting with the rest of the range.

Yes! Paint the bugs! No more mono-chromatic biodiversity (it just feels wrong)

I'd love to see them as an array of colors (or at least shades, too) to reflect the diversity.

I'll be watching this one!

I think plastics mesh quite well since the convos were very simple and fast to do... as for concept wise, well I always had a soft spot for insects/ aliens/ tyranids/ crustaceans and reptiles, so I mesh them when I have the chance.

I hope I dont mess the painting, I'm going for green blends.

Once you start the crazy bug way theres no turning back, its really addictive.
I get my greenstuff on the original large tubes they are so much cheaper than GW blisters.
I have been spending a lot of tubes lately, with the mycetic spore for chapterhouse.

The Dreadnote wrote:I would hope not; you can get it for about 1/3 the price from other places.

Indeed and GW doesnt sell tubes just strips ( the middle of the strip is waste)

Indeed, mono chromatic and biodiverstity are not compatible
If you like greens ( from your avatar I think so ehehe) and bone blends you will like it.

You know how people say that - the first love is the strongest? They are right.
The titan was way to much for me, Im still surprised how I managed to have the discipline to finish that thing. Just nuts.

Tau stealer is 100% greenstuff and will not be casted since its on my private collection mate, since its a full sculpture I dont think it will be easy for you to replicate it without sculpting.

Little update, I took a pic of whats going on on my working table at this moment...
You can see I worked this weekend on:
- 3 more termas
- Did a huge blob of GS for a rough mockup of the mycetic spore Im sculting ( I think this is about the right size for a pod... not to big and not to small.
- Tested more colors on a gaunt and this is about it... just needs a little blend from bone to darkbone/black on extremities of limbs.( oh and head is not painted neither is weapon)
Its going to be carapace dark green going to body chitin to clearer greens and going bone, ending on blackbrown on the tips...
- Sculpted part of a octopoid head for a side project but since its going to be casted I'm going to use it to maybe decorate some objective markers on my Pupa Fleet.

Thats about it for this weekend, didnt do much because I only had saturday free off work.

Pupa time again... little update.

1/3 of the termas are done... I builted 6 normal "runners" then 2 "peepers" and I'm working on some "shooters"... I like the broods to be dynamic and that creatures poses are diverse and a bit more interesting for the eyes.

I have to say these are excellent and really make the Termagants and the Fleshborers look more like symbiote/parasites than soldiers with guns. How difficult and what was involved in the conversion? I'd like to try it on my own Nids in the fullness of time.
