Hi everyone just finished the new edition to my ever growing ork army.I must express the kit was a pleasure to build and paint and also lends its self well to being magnetized.Having not used magnets before i decided to give it a go and heres the results. C&C Welcome thanks.

Like Munch Munch! said, it could use somemore battle damage, but it's definitely nicely painted. I especially like the bone effect, would you be willing to share how you did it?

I like the paint job, but, damn if their isn't somthing about the dread model itself I don't quite like.

Agreed.
I really don't like the change in aesthetics that GW/ FW has moved towards with the kans and dreds. i guess I'm old school, but the more humanoid look isn't orky in my book and is too sleek/refined looking. I like the old stompy "garbage kan on piston legs meets 50's alien robot" look of the older designs. They had far more character imho.
Regardless the paint work on this example is well done...

Great paint job on an un-orky model IMO. And I don't even play orks...If I do get this kit, it's going to need some serious modification.

Hi everyone thanks for the feedback,
In reply to Munch Munch there is some battle damage, all be it more subtle than normal. When I first started painting orks I went down the road of every panel or armour plate had to recieve over the top wear and tear which seemed to be the trend at the time.I have included more pics of vehicles with heavier battle damage and the dread together and I think they complement each other well but I'm biassed, hope you like .
In reply to Commissar Khaine the bone effect is just a coat of GW Dhenneb Stone (My favourite colour) and two or three very thin coats of GW Gryphonne Sepia (My favourite wash). This is an alternative warmer colour than the stark white I have used on some of my earlier vehicles.Hope the pics help to explain.
Once again thanks everyone for the feedback, hope you enjoy the rest of the pics.

If you check out the Killa Kan kit there's one of the pairs of legs that reiterates the old "piston-leg" of the older metal models. To me it's pretty easy to see the Deff Dred as an armoured can with the chassis built up around it.

I should imagine by combining the deff dread box and kan box set together theres an endless array of styles to suit all tastes be it old school or modern?

Now that I look at the deff dread, I agree. THe model is un-orky. It's just built so well. It's not a pile of scrap on legs anymore.

Ork technology was never badly built: it was "crude but effective". I think that the Deff Dred model does this in a great way. No the curved and sleek Ork Dreadnought of Rogue Trader, but not the garbage kan of 3rd edition.

So now the new plastics out do you think we,ll see a load of cheap metal dreads on ebay and if so, are the parts (legs, weapons, arms etc) compatable do you think?

Wow! Great work tony!
How did you magnetize the model? Or rather, what did you do to magnetize it?

Love the models, and thanks for the bone recipe, I'll definitely give it a try! I liek the new dreads by the way, the old ones just didn't look functional enough. If you prefer an older style look, leaving the faceplate off would do miracles I think.
