Hi there guys. I'm about to start converting a Ven. dread (GW plastic kit) for a counts-as spacewolf Khorne Marine army. Just looking for some idea's, if people have done this before, what worked and what didn't, bits from other kits i can slap on it. I've got a fair few spikes/panels from Landraider/Pred/rhino kits, so those should be helpful, plus lots of icons/marks from CSM kits. I am at the moment looking for a killer head to put onto the dread to replace the marine, but afaik the bunny ears on bezerkers wont fit because of the halo of armour of the head area.

Any ideas/thoughts?

Just use some spare chaos marine heads, or even the "Chaos Warrior" head from the Termie Lord sprue. I would as well get hold of a chaos vehicle accesoires sprue, since they have nice spikey bits and with a bit trimming here and there should go nice..

Besides, you could cut away the tip of the fingers of the "arcane" powerfist and replace those with blades.. you can't go wrong with a bladed power fist in a chaos army!

And of course, a must have; an eviscerated loyalist marine hanging from a banner on the back of the dread, and a couple of newly slain ones around his feet.. THAT should do the trick..

Insanely good conversion. Very cool. If it's not too late, I suggest a Defiler head and CC weapons. That's what I'm doing with my AoBR Dread when it comes.

Here's what I did back in the day.. I pulled the arms off a defiler and stuck them onto the dread.. mounted whatever weapons he had on the arms.. I know its a bit insane, but if you happen to have a defiler doing nothing.. its a fun conversion

I know that a friend of mine used a warrior head or something and shaved the horns off .

V. Nice. How did you make the Spikey armour plates on either side of the body? like the skulls too.

those spikey plates are from the Chaos Vehicle Sprue...
i used the vehicle sprue to make an Iron Warriors Dread...
the spikes, plates, and gargoyle heads work great...

the gargoyle heads work well on the lascannon barrels, and exhaust stacks...
the spike plate works well to cover the sarcophagus, and the rails of spikes work well to make shoulder trophies like the Chaos Termies carry...

I looked in my bits box for my vehicle sprues and did a fistpump when i saw them the light in the photo lead me to believe they had been placed on

I'm definately going to use gargoyle heads for the exhaust stacks, and the chain loincloth Hyenajoe used is from the terminator lord kit (afaik), which i happen to have laying about somewhere...

So far I've asembled the AC arm and the legs. For the AC arm, i used the ven. dread shoulder plate (that covers up the writing on the arm) that has a chain with a Terminator honour hanging off it. I shaved the term. honours off and replaced it with a skull

Okay, I've gotten 2 panels from chaos vehicle kit- 1 just lke Hyenajoe's, the other i grabbed the one with the skull/tactical marine arrows on it, and shaved off the skull/arrows and put a icon of khorne on there- it doesn't fit the armour patch perfectly, but isn't sticking out a great deal, or obscuring anything. I've grabbed a Chaos Fantasy warrior's head and cut off his horns and shaved the area's down to use as my sarcophagus marine. For his powerfist I've shaved down the hand's (using the hand that comes with the ven. instead of the standard DCCW) fingers to look a bit more like claws than fingers. Still got awhile to go. Going to try softening up and remodelling some of the chains with spikes/skulls that come in the vehicle kit to add to the DCCW arm. The AC arm has its panel on (the one with the Term. honour shaved off and the skull put on- i decided to use a daemonic skull i got with my fantasy chaos warriors), But the biggest shame is i left my bits box at a friends house and now need to retrieve it for it is an absolute treasure trove of spikes, blades, skulls, chains, and all other chaosy bits. Will post pictures after more work/box retrieval.

Woa, that's a chaosified loyalist dreadnought I like! nice use of the Chaos Vehicle accesoires sprue, and might I add that your GS'ing skills are a force to be reconned with! My only critics would be that since it's a Khornate tin can, it needs more skulls. Secondly the Dreadnought has a too static pose to be a Khorne Dreadnought, in my honest oppinion.. There are bucketloads of ways to get a striking pose on a dread, one likes to cut and reposition the legs.. If you look at mine;

You see that by simply moving the right part of the legs forwards so that the left part comes a bit "in the background" and have the upper hull glued on, the pose looks already different then the usual "straight out the box" dreads.

And before you ask "Did you really buy that FW Grey Knights dread only to defile it and put it in service for the Gods of Chaos?", I'll answer; Bought it cheap from a friend..

@Jihallah : you're right for the chain loincloth. The skulls are from the soulgrinder.

For the exhaust stack I've used those from the defiler sprue (it's not appearing on the current pics, but I'll soon post some newer pics of it in my own thread)

Ok, The big bad boy is almost ready. He's on his base, just needs some more chains/skulls I was a bit miffed how to do the leg armour, but i eventually grabbed some of the towing hooks from the vehicle sprue, and a beaky helmet i up royally getting it off after putting it on a raptor and going "mmmmm nah that looks " ended up hooked I've just got to grab an ork head for the other leg, and maybe another 1 or 2 around him. I've already nicknamed him the butcher

He is a bit static, as are all the dreads but I like him standing there posing. He Looks cranky I'm trying to imagine up a tech-priest-khorne guy i can have follow him around for gaks and giggles

-edit- unfortunately it is night and i need some good daylight for decent shots. I also need to get some more skullks and chains on him Will have pics in the morning

this place has turned into a show off your dreadnaught post.

So I'm gonna start and actual one.

I never find converted Loyalist dreads to ever look Chaosy enough. Even though Chaos Rhinos, Land Raiders, etc. are just Imperial vehicles with spikes on them, I always feel Chaos dreadnoughts should look really different.

Why? They're still just MkIV-V pattern Dreadnoughts associated with a different religion.
