Not sure if this is the correct area to post this...
But...
I was getting tired of driving across town all the time to play 40k so I had this stupid idea to build my own. I didn't think to take pics until after it was finished...well almost finished.
The following specs are:
Playing area: 4' x 8' with 4" of space on each side.
I put a rounded piece of trim at the edge of each long end to prevent anything from falling off...
I put a second piece of trim to show where the "playing area" is. As you can see in this pic I sorta had an idea to have 4 - 2" x 4' pieces of 1/4" plywood so that I could make different map layouts instead of having just one map.
The 2 pieces of plywood on gthe right half of the table are not the ones im going to use, their just there for show.
Plenty of space here for dice, extra pieces, etc...
I plan on staining it but i am just not sure what color to use...I also plan on getting some some 4" casters with brakes for each leg that way i dont break my back moving it. This table took 16 hours to build (thats with no help). Scenery pics soon to come....hope you enjoyed the pics, thanks for stopping by

Takes up some real estate in the garage, but so far it is fantastic! I like the extra area for stuff. I have seen tables that use 4'x8' and just have a 2 foot box on one end to roll and keep models (play area is then 4'x6').
Do you plan on making the terrain static? Or just have several pieces you are making/painting to use for an all purpose board?

Looks great.
If it takes up too much space look into using carriage bolts to attach the legs and make the braces removeable.
That way you can fold the legs up into the actual table and get it out of the way kinda like the folding tables they use at tourneys

I was thinking of buying a standard grass mat which is bigger then 4'x8' and cutting it to size to serve as a plain ole match setup. I was thinking of having different options by using 4 - 2'x4' pieces of plywood and making the different setups such as a snow board and then on another set of boards i could do a desert..etc. the bottom of the table i plan on adding a beam to cross the mid section the short way and put a piece of plywood on the bottom to serve as a storage for different boards, scenery, army transports...etc...

lol, i didnt even think of drink holders...that is definately a must.
I went up to Hobby lobby and purchased a 50" x 100" flat grass mat and i need to jsut trim it to size and am going to leave it on the table for those last minute pugs *wink*....that way matches can still go on while im messing with the optional boards...
will post pics once the mat is on, i need to brainstorm and think of the best solution the the "drink holder"...
wonderful idea!!

May I suggest using the lower support for a shelf for terrain or storage.
Just throw some plywood down and it's done.
Very nice table.

That's a nice, sturdy table. I like the way you've included areas for models/rolling on the side of the table, but it doesn't seem big enough to hold your rulebook or codex. If you'd like to include such a space I recommend slide out trays like this:
You could use a similar technique if you wanted a slide-out cupholder.

Very nice work, it looks like it is extremely sturdy (I bet you could put 400+ lbs of minis on that! I am not sure exactly what you plan to do with it (stay in the garage or not) but adding a shelf to the bottom (you already have the braces there to mount to) or even stringing some netting across it would let you store your minis, paints etc there (which keeps wives happy)and the extra terrain there as well.

My only concern is that the plywood slats you uses for the game board are going to warp.

Out of all the wood he has used the plywood is about the last one I'd worry about warping.

My brother used plywood for his display board and there is some pretty significant warping (about an inch).

It's possible of course. But plywood should be more resistant to warping than most softwoods

Welcome to Fantasy 40k
If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.
Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

Yes, if it is going to stay in the garage, it will be worth it to seal the wood somehow to protect against moisture.
This is a phenominal board. My 4x8 is really as big as one could ever need - games that need more space are rare in the extreme!

Im going to build a table this weekend. I am going to make two sections with a continous hinge so each can fold up, and then put latches on both sides to connect them. I will use 1x4s for the frame. Im hoping I can find some cheap black felt for the top. I play at different locations so I need it to be portable.

Im with Solorg, 4x8 is all youll need. Mine is also on the 4x8 and is plenty of table for anything Ive thrown at it. But I got lucky and found a 4x8 cork post board at an auction to cover my table. Its pretty nice playing on all cork let me tell you. Makes the dice rolls so much better feeling
Thats a very nice table BTW. A friend of mine built one similar some years ago. But he added a drawer under the table for dice and templates and such. Those are very sturdy the way you built it
