So I was wondering what might be the best way to do this I was thinking about using this as a starting point I would like to get some opinions.

1. I think the cockpit would need to be more sleek and have a assault ramp on the underside not just at the back. Some mods to the engines. Maybe make the wings swept forward.

That's an awesome looking model. I was thinking something similar... with the A10 warthog type wings and engine. It is a 'skimmer' after all.

I saw a model for the lander in Aliens but it's like 72 Euros.

I'm thinking up ideas on how to adapt old school rhinos to make a Stormraven. (Since I have several)

I'm thinking a Front door similar to the land raider, sliding doors on the side, stubby little wings for the missiles. Haven't drawn anything yet, but going to think about it. I'm not really a scratch builder so for now it's just ideas bouncing around in my head.

Not to be pessimistic, but I doubt that it will only be a few months.

Edited for spelling. I can't believe I misspelled not.

Considering that there isn't even artwork in the book, I wouldn't hold your breath. It may be awhile before you see the kit. I mean, it's not like GW's ever done something that dumb before. Like releasing a drop pod model about 5 years and one edition too late. Or not releasing Wolves on Wolves with a codex. etc.

I like it...
I always have loved those twin rotor choppers, so I may be a little biased.
However, I definately think that adding another access ramp would be good.

I'm not a fan. It just isn't "Imperial" enough, and it wouldn't have large wings since it is meant to drop into atmosphere. Because of that, I don't see any sort of propeller surviving atmospheric interface.

I imagine more of a larger Valkyrie with very stubby wings, or basically a small Thunderhawk.

No I was going to cut the props off and make them look like jets. I was going to cut the wings and sweep them forward.

Anybody ever play Tribes 2? I'm thinking of the Havoc Transport from that game, but instead of single seats along the prongs its more like a big brick slung underneath it.

Not sure sizewise about the Osprey but it is a cool idea for a conversion
Not sure if there is a 1/48 kit available but then that will be getting picey.

You could consider some other options I have a knacked old kit of a israeli troppcarrying helo, but unsure of type as it ain't my forte. But I compared to a mark 1 Rhino and it is slightly narrower. I reckon that would make it acceptable given that Rhinos aren't big enough any hoo, and take into consideration the skirting and tracks there will be more room in the 1/72 helo!

Couple of jet engines strapped onto some wings would be good.

Also the osprey will still be pretty sizeable in 1/72. It could also be worth considering converting a C-130 Hercules - again would be pretty big. But it could have jet STOVL capability like the osprey.

If you wanted the ramp at the front chop the fin off stick it on the front and stick a canopy above the ramp area.

There is also the 2 engined Transall that might be worth considering as a basis for conversion

My brother is wanting me to make one of these for him. We had the same little chat about the "propeller surviving atmospheric interface". He agreed with you. But I kinda like the whole prop thing and I for one think that 40K years in the future if they have figured out how to reanimate a corpse then I think they got the whole prop re-entry thing figured out.

saw it, but not the price
was just trying to open up possibilities if the Osprey option wasn't viable.

Must admit am not enamoured of the Imperial flying equipment -personal taste and all that.
If you can convert the Osprey it would be a lot better imho. The only thing really is size on the gaming table.

Re the props- assumed that they were going to be changed, but if you want to retain them, what about them folding back into the wings protected by doors (like wheel retraction) Afer entry into the atmosphere the the doors open, blades lock into place and away they go.

Problem is - and for jets too- how do they get back to a mother ship- or don't they need to?

If you mean this mini T-hawk, then no.

Its easy to make though, rear of a Valk, front made from plasticard to look like a land raider.

oh and reverse the wings!
