Well ladies and gents i spent 9 hours down in the local hobby shoppe and i came up with one badass stormraven using only ONE valkyrie box! My goal was to do a stormraven as close to the source material the
least amount of cash invested.Takes a bit of effort but the end result is fun and definetly worth it!

Twin lascannon multimelta variation, has clamps in the back for the dreads which dont need magnets and just slide the dreadnought in place.

If ya need any details on how i came to do it please respond and i ll will explain smile.gif

P.S.: No green stuff,no styrofoam, just good old cutting and glueing.

P.P.S.: Sorry for the picture quality i ll try to get some better ones.

Agreed. I'd love to see how this was achieved.

I dunno it looks like a SM too me, though the wings seem a bit "stubby".

Hmmm

at first I wanted to make fun of all you who didn't see how easy this was.... Then I remembered not everyone has built a valk before.

At first glance, its pretty simple...

1.) Build the hull like normal
2.) Turn it 180
3.) Turn wingfins sideways, glue.
4.) Build wings and engines as normal, glue where shown.
5.) Using cockpit and main stability fin, glue in a row to make new cockpit (alot of cutting required)
6.) Profit.

Huge props on thinking to use the back as the hatch, as everyone else was using a land raider which is totally not cost efficient.

Archie is right on the money although there are some hidden gems that need mentioning:

Ofc you gonna build as normal the side fins, wings, the hull and the engines but keep em seperated.
You put the back piece of the cockpit right where it belongs usually, and when ya flip the side fins to put them in place as
in the photograph you stick the connecting part of the tail wings, the larger one, right in the end where the thingimajigie
from the end of the cockpit ends to sorta extend the upper hull.

The cockpit itself is the HARDEST HARDEST thing you ll have to do, what i did was use the first front seat of the cockpit.
Cut off the back part and severely cut the lower part of the cockpit, furthermore i made small incisions in some parts
so i can bend the cockpit when the angle requires me to do so. (Can be avoided if ya use plasticard)

Flip the wings ofc so instead of the traditional valk they form a regular airplane how should i put this "triangle".
Dont put the engines on the hull itself, put them on the wings, you ll find the place they rest most naturally just a few
milimiters after the hull.

Personally i cut the floor part of the cockpit and used it on the loopsided dual tail structure to cover the fact that we flipped it
and give a more natural armor like feel to it.The wings extend a bit but only a bit further than the end of the hull and start
off at the same time as the tail fins we turned on the side. And trim them a bit using a saw so they stick to the hull too.

Three final pointers.

A) The tail wings are just the one style put vertically and the other style of wings put horizontally right in the end of the tail structure.

B) The clamps holding the dread are the parts of the landing gear which work as talons where ya snap the dread in place, real easy since its slide and stick, and slide out, just takes a bit of careful glueing

C) This was just for my own personal fun: instead of gluing the base as is,i put a little "pillow on the base connecting part so instead of resting normally, its a bit like a small gamma ____I
this changes the angle of the whole aircraft by leaps and bounds and just gives it a much more "natural" feel.

D) and finally and i know that this is kinda daft to suggest but be creative with the use of the spare parts,50% of the work here was using what was leftover to artistically
create details where we needed to hide the fact that the piece didnt quite "fit in there. I dont think i need to explain weapon placement etc that seems a bit logical to whoever view this

I know this wasnt exactly what ya wanted but its the best i could come up with in a short time.

By all means please ask for more info if ya need or didnt understand something, i 'd be more than happy to spend some more time and help ya guys make them too.
Just went ahead and posted fast so you get at least an idea of how it goes.

Cheers

Looks great other then the weapon mounts. Seems that putting the las cannons on the nose in front of the cockpit and a multimelta turret on the bottom with the 2blood strike missles on each wing would be more appropriate but would require additional parts. The missle pods don't really belong.

If you could please make a second one and take pictures while doing so to make a step by step tutorial it would be much appreciated.

Well, It's a cheap and great way to make a Storm Raven, but I have to be so rude and point out a few things;

1. the engine mounts. Something tells me that by moving them closer to the cockpit, and moving the tail wings further to the back, the whole shebang would look more sturdier..

2. Missile pods. If I remember correctly, Valkyries come with Deathstrike missiles, don't they? Why not use them instead?

3 Lascannon mounts. By moving them to either side of the nose instead of the wings, I do believe the overall look of your Storm Raven would be a lightning fast dropship with a punch.. After all, Astartes are all about rapid deployment.

For starters:

I actually bought a second valkyrie as i did two in a row, i used 4 deathstrike missiles on one and 4 of the other missile variety on the other, i just took the photograph of the wrong one

Seconds:

I didnt have the multi melta at hand, those would go in the front of the aircraft as ya suggested but trust me,if ya see it the lasscannons on the edge of the wings look kickass.

Thirds:

Maybe you re right and we even thought of removing the whole tail itself, but this way the model gets much more mass, therefore and in conclusion,it looks BIGGAH!

Nono, don't remove the tail wings.. just make space for some weapon mounts in front..

On a second thought, I've changed my mind. It can't be better done than this. A lick of paint helped alot!

That's dope. While I like the look of the Valk/LR Storm Ravens more, they're expensive as hell to make. This is a great re-purposing of the Valk box.

While I think this is a sweet ass model and paint job. I have a small issue with how it will perform on the table.

When mounting weapons like twin linked Lascannons and Metlas put them on a 360 so you are always in a firing arch.

The model doesn't quite fit my mental picture of what a storm raven would look like, but this is the easiest, cheapest, and best-looking conversion of a valkyrie kit I have seen so far! So props! If GW doesn't release a model for it soon, I may be looking into making one of these. I applaud your ingenuity.

Well, that's not entirely true. I don't have the book in front of me, but if it states what type of weapon it is (ie pintle) than it doesn't matter how he's modeled it. If it's hull mounted its 45 degrees, pintle 360, turret 360, sponson 180 etc.

The book dose not say except for the sponsons if you take them.

Modelling every weapon on a turret will look like ass, and people will think you're an ass.

With regards the Stormraven I think the engines would look better if slightly shorter and the engine vents on the ends of the wings say Valkyrie every time, otherwise not bad.
