I am trying to make some Las/Plas Razorbacks for the upcoming Ard' Boyz, and I want to see if anyone might help with some ideas for the conversion. I was digging through my bits box last night trying to find something to combine with the Lascannon turret parts you get with the standard RB in order to make these and came up empty. Aside from cutting up some Rhino hatch doors or something similar I have nothing that looks decent enough to work.

I was just wondering if anyone already had a great idea for these before I go buy some plasticard and see what I can make that does not look too trashy. Cutting our own plastic pieces seems to look fine when used in Ork conversions, but that stuff is supposed to look pieced together. I want it to look like a factory made piece and I am not too confident in my skills with that stuff to make something that looks like I want it to so I am looking for some other options.

Any tips on making them or info on where to see some already made I might copy would be much appreciated.

"RB's?" I'm afraid I've not heard of that term before. Care to elaborate for me?

Sorry, thought it would come up when you scrolled over it, guess not. I was talking about Razorbacks. I made the edit to clarify.

RBs = Razorbacks. It's actually a pretty easy conversion. When you start to assemble the Razorback turret, cut away one of the lascannons from where round barrel connects to the roughly rectangular housing. Cut the stock and handgrip from your two plasma rifles. Then you can either cut away a little more from the plasma rifles or cut away a little more from the lascannon mount until they fit together in a way that 1) looks good to you, and 2) allows the top cowling to still fit. I'll try to get a pic of mine and post it shortly.

I tried that exact thing and I could not get that top cap to cover enough of the sides for it to look decent. That is where I got the plasticard idea to maybe extend it a little bit.

edit: I reread what you wrote and actually did not try cutting the Lascannons barrel off the frame. I just used one frame piece I trimmed the sides off of instead of the two you get for the twin-linked. I then tried to fit the Plasma Guns in there next to it without any luck. I will have to try cutting one down and seeing what I can do with that.

I have seen them done with just a single Laz in the turret and a double plasmagun as the pintel mount. it looked good.

Okay, here's a side shot of what I did:

You can see where I cut away the stock and pistol grip on the plasma rifles and also see how I cut away the lascannon barrel and portions of the mount. What you can't see in the picture is the second plasma rifle cut in the same way. You should sand/file the surfaces of the plasma rifles flat so that they'll sit flush against each other when you glue them together. Together, they're a little less than twice as wide as the mount, so you need to be careful centering them on the lascannon mount when you glue them. Ultimately, though, the goal is to get the top of the plasma rifles at the same height as the lascannon barrel so the top cowling will fit nicely.

Thanks for the picture. So basically build the TLL turret as normal, but cut away BOTH Lascannons where the barrel meets the frame. Then you center all three in the area you are left with. It looks like you flipped the cowling around, is that recommended or was it to make it look like you wanted?

The results look good, and I will deffinately be giving this method a shot tonight. Thanks again for your help.

No, I just cut one lascannon - the other is built normally, so it's asymmetrical with the lascannon on one side and the plasma guns on the other. You can see it better in these pics:

Did I flip the cowling around? I guess I did. It wasn't an intentional decision, but it does help hide one of the plasma gun seams.

Ahhhhh that front shot made all the difference. Not what I had pictured but still very clean look to it. It also actually looks, as you said, very easy to do.

This will almost definitely be the method I use to make the four I needed. As I said before, thanks a lot for this man.

No problem - I needed an easily repeatable method for my own 4. When I built my Predators, I magnetized the side hatches so that with a few more turrets I can run them as Razorbacks, too. Razorback Spam, HO!

I've seen nearly this same conversion from a gent I played at my local store, but he stacked his plasma guns width wise (90 degrees offset from yours) It looked very good too. If you want to try replicating the original razorback turrets they used one lascannon in the center and it was flanked by a plasma on either side.
I had cut my old ones off and replaced them with TL lascannons for the last codex, fortunately still have the parts and I'm gluing them back
