“Omar, what a pleasant surprise!” Inquisitor Lord Antonio offers a warm welcoming hand to Magos Explorator Omar. “It’s been too long Antonio,” Omar replied, clasping hands with Antonio’s. “I heard all about your recent engagement with the Eldar vessel. Praise Omissiah! What I would give to be in your shoes and see it in action.” “Ha ha, careful Omar. You speak of heresy,” Antonio quietly said with a wink. “Ah, forgive me Lord Inquisitor. I can assure you my intentions are in good faith. By the way, where is the Canoness?

Canoness Dianus approach the portal leading to the Explator ship’s hanger bay. The vacuum doors slid open, revealing a metal gangway disappearing into the darkness. Magos Omar stood in the middle, illuminated by hovering servo skulls. “Welcome Canoness. Don’t be shy, come in.” Dianus let out a deep sigh before walking slowly towards Omar. “Magos Omar, I hope you don’t have a personal vendetta against me for what happened back on Daroth II. But in retrospect, something big over the horizon must be happening on Cyron I to warrant your attention.” Magos Omar posture stiffens as Dianus stopped next to him. “Nothing escapes the scrutiny of the Inquisition. Even Antonio questioned my business here,” replied Omar. “Very well, I’ll let you in on secret that even the Ordo Xenos doesn’t know.” Dianus paused. She knew the Adeptus Mechanicus operates independently from the Minostorum. She also knew they possess vast resources, but she never knew they could surpass that of the Inquisition. “It all began when we lost telepathic connection to our outer-research stations located on the fringes of the Cyron System. “Shadow in the Warp,” murmured the Canoness. “We’ve also received reports of Tau activity targeting Space Wolves outposts on planets within the Cyron System. Recent Eldar activity strengthens our theory. Connect the dots and it all leads to Cyron I.” “Which is why the Ordos Hereticus has sent us here and your reason for being here,” concluded Dianus. “Precisely”, replied Omar. Please accept my hospitality as a token our friendship.” Omar snapped his fingers. Suddenly the hanger lights turn on, temporarily blinding Dianus. When light subsided, Dianus eyes widened in amazement at what she saw. Rows upon rows of Immolator tanks sat park in the hanger bay, a company size fleet of Sisters vehicles. “The resources of the Adeptus Mechanicus are as your disposal Canoness.”

“I take it your meeting with Magos Omar went well,” Antonio said with a grin. Dianus nodded. “The truth tasted bitter, but the pleasantries were sweet. In any case, what are we will we do with our current problem with the rebel Astartes,” asked Dianus. “I’ve been monitoring the their activities from up here,” Antonio replied, “Currently they are building forces here.” The Inquisitor Lord pointed at a region on the auspex. The screen zoomed on its the location, giving a bird’s eye view of the surface. “We’ll begin with orbital bombardment followed by an armored assault. This will delay them from building up strength, giving us enough time to deal with the Xeno threat.”

I recently finished competing in ConQuest GT SF Ragnarok. Twenty-two 40k players and I believe six Fantasy players showed up. This was my first major GT. Up until now I've been playing in small local tournaments, so this was a real treat for me.

Unfortunately the tournament organizers prohibited pictures, filming, or audio recording of game play with exception to those with press pass. This will be a lot different from my usual detailed and narrative battle reports.

Setting:

Deployment was Spearhead. Missions was Seize Ground set at two objectives, which are placed in table quarters not used as a deployment zone. 15 Battle Points for controlling more objectives, 10 Battle Points for same number of objectives, and 5 Battle Points if less. Extra 3 Battle Points awarded to whoever scores more kill points and Extra 2 Battle Points awarded if a player controls the other player’s deployment quarter.

Army List:

I brought with me my experimental 2000 points Immolator Spam list featuring a plethora of meltaguns, templates, and vehicles. Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of game play with my experimental Immolator Spam list because of college and other personal related matters. In fact, I only had 6 real games and a couple practice ones online (on a program that shall not be named, but starts with a letter "V" ).

Sisters of Battle (Order of Faith):

-Palatine, Bolter, Book of St. Lucius
-5 Celestian Retinue, 2 Meltaguns, Immolator, Smoke

My opponent brought a hybrid Space Marine army lead by Pedro Kantor.

Space Marines:

-Pedro Kantor
-6 Assault Terminators, 3 Thunderhammer/Stormshields, 3 TL-Lightening Claws
-5 Terminators, Chain Fist, Cyclone Missile Launcher
-5 Sternguard Veterans, Sgt has Lightning Claw, 2 Combi-Meltas, Razorback with TL-Heavy Bolters
-10 Tactical Marines, Power Fist, Flamer, Missile Launcher, Razorback with Lascannon and TL-Plasmagun
-10 Tactical Marines, Power Fist, Plasmagun, Plasma Cannon, Razorback with Lascannon and TL-Plasmagun
-10 Tactical Marines, Power Fist, Meltagun, Multi-Melta, Razorback with Lascannon and TL-Plasmagun
-Predator, TL-Lascannon, Sponson Heavy Bolters
-Whirlwind
-Vindicator

Deployment:

I lost the roll off. Space Marines deploys first. My opponent took a static gunline approach. He setup two combat squads of Tactical Marine with heavy weapons on top of a terrain piece. Two Razorbacks, both carrying the other half of the combat squads deploys left. Whirlwind deploys behind them. Predator and Shooty Terminators deploys center. Kantor attaches to Sternguard’s Razorback, Assault Terminators, and Vindicator deploys right. The third Tactical Marine squad stays in reserves. Everyone is positioned a good distance away from the center starting deployment bubble. Due to the awkward objective setup, I split my forces in half, deploying them as close as possible to the center deployment zone.

Turn 1 (Space Marines):

There’s very little movement. Assault Terminators, Shooty Terminators, and Vindicator lumbers right towards the right objective. My lead Celestian Immolator gets blown to smithereens form a well-placed Lascannon shot. Celestians inside piles out and are pinned by the wreckage, but are otherwise unharmed from the explosion.

Turn 1 (Sisters of Battle):

On the left, Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, Dominion, Battle Sister, and Palatine drive left towards the left objective.

On the right, two Dominions, two Celestians, and Battle Sisters drove right, heading towards the right objective. Various lead vehicles pops smoke. Both Exorcists hung back, providing fire support. However, they inflict very little damage.

Turn 2 (Space Marines):

Third Tactical Marine Squad became available from reserves. They move in on the left table quarter. A combat squad of five marines walks toward the left objective while a Razorback loaded with a combat squad armed with a Power Fist and Multi-Melta parks in the top-left table corner. The newly arrived Razorback takes a side shot at my left Exorcist. A las-beam slams into the side, penetrated, but the die came up to a one, leaving the Exorcist’s crew shaken.

On the right, Vindicator and Assault Terminators secure the right objective. Shooty Terminators are still shuffling through terrain. A well-placed Krak missile wrecks a Dominion Immolator on the right. Dominions bail out and pass their pinning test. The rest of my forces endure hail of fire from multiple Heavy Weapons. One of the Celestian Immolators suffers a weapon destroy.

Turn 2 (Sisters of Battle):

Celestians become unpin. They head towards the left objective. On the left, Battle Sisters and Inquisitorial Storm Troopers pull up in their vehicles near the newly five Tactical Marines. They disembark and fires full auto, cutting down four superhuman warriors. The last Marine fails his moral test and flees off the board.

In center, Palatine and Dominions drive up and disembark near the two troops Razorbacks in the Space Marine player’s deployment zone. Dominions fail to hit their target, despite shooting at the Razorback and point blank. Palatine’s Celestian Retinue succeeds in blowing up the second Razorback. Five tactical marines stumble out, but are unpin. Palatine’s Immolator spews burning promethium into them, but to no effect.

On the right, weaponless Immolator drives through in between the Vindicator and shooty Terminator squad. Battle Sister, Dominion, and two Celestian squads all drive up, disembark, and fire everything they got into the shooty Terminator squad. All five die in a hail of bolters and burning meltas. Dominions from the wrecked Immolator shoots and charges into the assault Terminators, even though they inflict no casualties and end up losing all but one of their numbers, they succeed in passing leadership test and tying up the Assault Terminators.

Turn 3 (Space Marines):

On the left, combat marines disembark ad move away from their Razorback. They fire assault weapons, picking off two Battle Sisters, and then assault. They kill a couple more Battle Sisters, but they pass leadership thanks to Veteran Sister Superior’s Book of St. Lucius. Razorback blows up the Battle Sister’s Rhino, killing two Inquisitorial Storm Troopers in the blast.

In the center, a combat squad of Tactical Marines disembarks and closes in on the Dominion who failed to damage their Razorback. They shoot and assault, killing three Dominions. The other Marine combat squad does the same to the Palatine’s command squad. Three Celestians are slain. Both Dominion and Palatine stubbornly holds thanks to Book of St. Lucius. One of the Immolators blows up after getting hit by a Lascannon from the surviving Razorback.

On the right, Pedro Kantor hops out of his Razorback. He moves, shoots, and assaults into a Celestian squad. Spirit of the Martyr grants the sister elites invulnerable saves. One Celestian, smashed asunder by Kantor’s Power Fist. Kantor loses two wounds and loses combat, but passes leadership. Sternguards disembark. They move towards the Battle Sisters. Cover fire from two stationary Marine combat squads, Predator, Sternguard’s Razorback, Whirlwind, and Vindicator kills an entire squad of Dominions, reduces a Celestian squad to a single model armed with a Meltagun, and kills 4 Battle Sisters. Sternguard forgo shooting in fear of wiping out the squad entirely. Instead, they multi-charge Battle Sisters and a Celestian Immolator. They succeed in wiping out the Battle Sisters, but only stuns the Celestian Immolator. Assault Terminators finishes off a Dominion and consolidates.

Turn 3 (Sisters of Battle):

On the left, Inquisitorial Storm Troopers hopes back inside their Immolator, which drives towards the Razorback. Marines beat up a couple of more Battle Sisters in assault, but one Marine is killed.

In center, surviving Immolator shifts reverse gear, pulling back towards the left objective. Dominions gets pulverized the Marine Sergeant’s Power Fist. Palatine and a few Celesians hold out in assault.

On the right, Dominion Immolator fails a dangerous Terrain test and becomes immobilize. Single Celestian advances toward the Predator and shoots within melta range, but misses. Battle Sister Rhino drives back and fire a few bursts from its Storm Bolter into a stationary Tactical Marines combat squad. One Marine dies. Celestian Immolator also pulls back. Right Exorcist unleashes a salvo of rockets into the Sternguard. All but one is blown to bits. Kantor kills a Celestian while receiving no wounds in return. Celestians passes leadership.

Turn 4 (Space Marines):

On the left, Razorback fires its Lascannon and rapid fires its Plasma Guns into the advancing Inquisitorial Storm Trooper Immolator. Immolator gets its turret blown off. Combat between Marines and Battle Sisters ends in a stand still.

In center Tactical Marines freed from assault after killing the Dominions joins the assault, against the Palatine. All Celestians surround the Palatine are kills while the Palatine miraculously survives with one wound remaining.

On the right, Sternguard Razorback drives up and picks up the lone Sternguard. Lone Celestian melts into a puddle of goo after getting hit by a Plasma Cannon. Assault Terminators multi-charges, attemping to help bail out Kantor from assault while dealing with the stunned Immolator. Immolaor is reduced to a wreck. Celestians finishes off Kantor getting massacred by the Assault Terminator.

Turn 4 (Sisters of Battle):

On the left, Inquisitorial Storm Trooper’s Immolator cautiously advances toward the Razorback. A Storm Trooper pops open the top hatch and fires his Meltagun out of a fire point. Meltagun hits the Razorback, but only stuns the crew. Combat draws between Battle Sisters and Marines draws with both sides taking equal casualties.

In the center the Palatine is beaten into a pulp, losing her last wound. Both combat marines consolidate. Celestian in middle who has done nothing throughout the game hops into retreating Immolator and contest left objective.

On the right, Exorcist shoots a couple of rockets into the Sternguard Razorback. Razorback explodes, pinning the lone Sternguard. Immolator zooms up to the objective, on the right, contesting it. Rhino parks behind.

Turn 5 (Space Marines):

Not much happens on this turn. Combat between Battle Sisters and Marines draws. Remaining Marine forces concentrates their shooting on the left Immolator with Celestians inside. Marines in center stay put.

On the right, there was some shooting on the vehicles contesting the right objective. Assault Terminators charges into the Immolator, but inflict very little damage due to it moving cruising speed last turn.

Turn 5 (Sisters of Battle):

On the left, Battle Sisters tie combat with three Sisters remaining. Left Exorcists kills a few marines in the center. On the right, Rhino contests right objective.

The game ends with both left and right objective contested, resulting in a draw. However, the Space Marine player did score more kill points, earning thirteen victory points while I earned ten victory points.

Game result: DRAW!

“Sisters, fight by my side!” yelled Sister Superior Raina. She and her Celestians open fire on the last of the rebel Terminators, cutting him down in a hail of bolters and searing melta heat. “For Russ and the Emperor,” boom a voice from behind. Raina turns, just in time to see a rebel Marine Chapter Master plow into Sister Cecil. Sister Cecil had no time to react before the Chapter Master lifted his Power Fist and brought it crashing down, pulverizing Sister Cecil into crumple heap of metal and red goo. “Cecil!” Raina scream. She and the rest of the Celestians lunge at the Chapter Master, doding and weaving around the super-human armor warrior. Sister Patrice spots an opening and plunges her combat knife thourgh the Chapter Master’s knee joint. The Marine leader grunted before returning the blow with his Power Fist, sending Patrice crashing into a rock wall. Raina and the remaining two Celestians seize the opportunity and attack him all at once. The Chapter Master was overwhelmed as he tries to parry all the attacks. Celestians finally brought the Chapter Master crashing down before finally slitting his throat. “It’s over,” Raina wheeze. Suddenly a faint metallic, “clunk, clunk, clunk” grew louder. Raina looks to where the sounds are coming from. Six behemoth Marine Assault Terminators marches towards Raina and her squad.

“Canoness Dianus, the Rebel forces are retreating, should we pursue,” questioned Veteran Sister Superior Cath over the vox channel. Dianus sat with her back resting against an Immolator. A Hospitaller was busy mending the Canoness’s multiple injuries. “Status report,” Dianus ordered. “three Battle Sisters, five Celestians, three Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, and a handful of vehicles are still fit for combat," informed Cath. Dianus quietly shook her head. “We’ve suffered heavy losses. Tell the rest of the forces to gather the wounded and form a defensive perimeter. We shall pull back as well.”

I'm surprised you didn't beat his army to a pulp. Your army is pretty strong. His army looks like a hodge-podge of different marine units and rather unfocused at first glance.

I didn't get a lot of game play prior to the tournament, so I made a lot of stupid mistakes.

Pedro Kantor's +1 Attack 12" bubble proved valuable in the top right corner.

In hindsight I should have lined up my tanks with 1" in between, deploy my infantry behind them, and shoot out of narrow gaps.
