Pre match sequence

Roll for mission – seize ground (D3+2 objectives) – rolled a 6 means 5 objectives.
Role for deployment – rolled 6 (Dawn of War)
Roll who goes first – Slaanesh rolled 6, I rolled 5
Slaanesh chose his half, I had to setup minimum 18 inches away..
Uneven number ojectives – we rolled and I placed 3 he placed 2.

Setup – Slaanesh first – put on HQ and two units –
His Sorceror attached to 12 Noise Marines are placed on the left flank behind a large hill and 6 Noise Marines (with Sonic Blaster and a Blastmaster) are deployed in the sole building in the very centre of the terrain.

My setup – two 10 man Tactical units setup in the centre and right rear near my table edge on terrain features.

Turn 1:

Roll to steal initiative – I rolled 3 (fail).

Slaanesh Movement Turn 1
The Dreadnaought, 5x Havocs, both possessed rhinos with 6x Noise Marines each move onto Slaanesh’s table edge. The Chaos Lord flys 12 onto the board.

Rolled night firing on middle nose marines for 18inches visibility. Fired on my left Tactical marines with blastmaster (missed) 9 sonic blaster shots (3 hits, 1 wound, failed).
Rolled night firing on noise marines to my left for 24 inches visibility. Blastmaster and 6 sonic blasters in range of my left Tactical squad. Blastmaster fired on Assault 2, 1 hit, no wound. The 6 blasters produced 11 hits, 7 wounds and 3 failed armour saves. This left hand noise marine unit also contains the sorcerer who passes test and casts warptime on himself.
My left Tactical squad down to 6 marines.

Slaanesh Assault 1
No activity.

Aurora Movement 1
Razorback moves on my left table edge and disembarks 5 Sternguard.
Land Raider Redeemer moves onto board 12 and Terminators disembark from front assault ramp.
The 2 rhinos for the squads deployed at commencement of game move to their units.
Vindicator comes on into the middle of my table edge.
Land Raider Godhammer moves 12 along my right table edge (contains melta Tactical squad).

Aurora Shooting 1
My Sternguard night firing role is 15 inches – they rapid fire vengeance rounds at the left noise marines – 9 hit, 5 wounds – cover save gives him 4+ save, 2 fail their cover save and die.
My Land Raider Redeemer used POMS to fire its assault cannon at the Noise Marines – 3 hits (4 with reroll to hit), 3 wounds, all save on armour.
My 6 remaining Tacticals at my centre table edge embark in their newly arrived rhino, which pops smoke.
My 10 Tacticals to my right table edge also embark.
Vindicator fires at centre middle noise marines – double 6 for night visibility – direct hit on all 6, 5 wounds, blastmaster and 1 other noise marine dies.
LRG on my right table edge cannot see any targets due to night visibility.
Librarian in Terminator squad uses psychic flame template psychic power on left noise marine unit – passes perils of the warp, hits 3, causes 2 wounds (AP3 so both die). Librarian also passes for might of the ancients.

Aurora Assault 1
Terminators with Librarian charge the left hand noise marines and their sorcerer, just making the distance. The sorcerer strikes first with 4 attacks (extra close combat weapon), hits 3 times, 3 wounds – my 3+ storm shield invuls all pass. 8 Noise marines then attack with 2 attacks each (pistol and CCW) and the aspiring champ has 3 power weapon attacks – 9 normal attacks and 1 power weapon attack hit, 4 normal and power weapon wound, all saved by the Terminator armour / storm shields. I hit back – librarian (now strength 6) hits twice and kills two noise marines, the Terminators then hit 10 times with thunder hammers causing 8 wounds. The 6 noise marines are killed and the sorcerer fails his 5+ invul save and gets pulverised.

Turn 2

Slaanesh Move 2
Slaanesh rolled for reinforcements
Greater Demon comes on (possessing the front middle aspiring champion)
Lesser Demonds come on come on next to the greater demon and run 6 into cover at the centre of the table
Dreadnought rolled 3 so behaves – rolls difficult terrain 6 and moves forward.
Both noise marine units disembark from their possessed rhinos

Slaanesh Shooting 2
4x lascannons fire into my THSS Terminators – 1 hit, 1 wound, saved by a storm shield.
Chaos Dreadnaught fires its plasma cannon at my Terminators, 4 hits, 4 wounds, all saved by storm shields.
Blastmaster fires at my Terminators – 2 hits, 1 wound, saved.
Noise marines in centre fire at my Terminators – 2 hits, 1 wound which fails – finally one of the mighty Terminators falls down under the hail of fire!

Slaanesh Assault 2
No activity

Aurora Move 2
Rolls for land speeder to come out of reserve – fails
Sternguard embark into the razorback
Land Raider Redeemer moves up 6, assault Terminators embark
Middle Tactical squad (facing all the demons) disembarks to pour fire into the hated minions of the immaterium
Right hand Tactical squad (with melta weapons) in Land Raider Godhammer disembarks with clear line of sight to Greater Demon
On the right hand a rhino with Tactical marines moves 12 up the right table edge and pops smoke.

Aurora Shooting 2
Lascannon and Plasma Gun on razorback fire on havocs killing 1.
Land Raider Redeemer Assault cannon fires on lesser demons, 4 hits, 2 wounds, 1 makes its cover save the other dies. The multimelta fires using POMS at the dread, penetrates its armour however the dread makes its cover save.
The middle Tactical squad pours fire at the greater demon. The Plasma Cannon scatters onto the grass, the plasma gun hits twice however the demon’s 4+ invul saves both. 4 bolters place 4 hits on rapid fire causing 3 wounds on the monster, however it saves all three, keeping its 4 wounds intact!
My vindicator fires at the greater demon scattering nicely onto the greater demon and over 1 of the lesser demons! Both fail their invul save, killing a lesser demon and taking the keeper of secrets to 3 wounds.
The centre rhino fires its storm bolter at the greater demon hitting and wounding once, however again the invul of the keeper of secrets keeps it safe
The Land Raider Godhammer fires both twin linked lascannons at the greater demon, both hitting, both wounding and both penetrating the invul. The greater demon is now down to 1 wound.

Aurora Assault 2
No activity

Slaanesh Move 3
Chaos Dreadnaught goes into a frenzy, rolls to run in the crater terrain and rolls 4. No shooting however manages another 3 due to fleet.
Demonettes move in 2 difficult terrain.
Chaos Lord flies 12 towards the land raider redeemer.

Slaanesh Shooting 3
4 Lascannons fire at the landraider for 2 hits, 1 glance resulting in crew shaken (no shooting)
Blastmaster fires at Razorback but misses
3 Sonic Blasters fire at middle Tactical squad hitting 7 times, 1 wound, armour save succeeds.

Slaanesh Assault 3
Greater Demon and Lesser Demons all charge into the middle Tactical squad – the GD kills 3, the lesser demons swing 9 times, hit 6, inflict 2 wounds both of which are saved. The Tacticals strike at same time (all initiative 4) putting 2 hits on the lesser demons killing 1. The power fist sergeant hits the GD wounding him however he passes his invul save. My Tactical squad lost by 2 (leadership 9 with penalty means 7 or under) and I roll 8. The squad runs. The GD cannot catch them however the lesser demons do. Using “Know no Fear’ the 3 marines left (plasma cannon, plasma gun and PF SGT) get armour saves with only the SGT failing and dying.

Aurora Move 3
The Razorback, Vindicator and LR Godhammer all move up 6, the right hand razorback moves 12 next to an objective but behind cover. The Redeemer moves across my front edge left to right towards the chaos lord and the TH/SS termis disembark in assault range.

Aurora Shooting 3
As the demons were in close combat, the LRG fires its two TLLCs at the Chaos Dreadnaught’s side armour hitting twice inflicting one glance which causes weapon destroyed (Plasma Cannon).
The Razorback also fires its Lascannon / TL Plasmagun (single shot at 16 inches) at the Dreadnaught with the Lascannon’s resulting penetrating hit ripping the Dread’s close combat arm (with attached heavy flamer) apart. The Dread now had no weapons left meaning we would treat it as having a hand weapon (stomping etc) if it made it to close combat.
The Vindicator fires at the centre noise marine squad and misses. The middle Rhino fires at the same squad, hits and wounds twice, both saves are successful.

Aurora Assault 3
The two marines in the centre split their attacks – the plasma cannon marine hits the lesser demons while the marine with the plasma gun hits the Greater Demon (now with 1 wound left). The Plasma cannon marine misses, the Plasma Gun marine hits, rolls 6 to wound the Greater Demon who then fails his invul save and is banished back to the warp! Simultaneously the GD hits and kills both marines, including the heroic plasma gunner. The Lesser Demons consolidate into cover.
The TH/SS Terminators assault the Slaanesh Lord. The Slaanesh Lord hits first, rolling 6 for his demon weapon allowing him 9 attacks on the 4 Terminators and Terminator Librarian. The Terminator Librarian tool a wound from the Lord’s blissgiver and failed his 5+ invul save and was killed instantly. Striking back the 4 Terminators’ 12 attacks hit 4 times causing 4 wounds killing the Lord.

Slaanesh Move 4
The Dreadnaught (with no weapons) moved 5 forward through difficult terrain and one squad of noise marines at Slaanesh’s table edge embarked into their Rhino.

Slaanesh Shooting 4
4 Havocs fire Lascannons at the TH/SS Terminators causing 3 hits, 3 wounds, all saved.
The Blastmaster fires at the Terminators and misses.
3 Sonic Blasters of the right rear Noise Marines in range fire at the Terminators causing 6 hits, 1 wound which is saved.
3 Sonic Blasters from the mid field Noise Marines also fire at the Terminators causing a further 6 hits, 2 wounds which are both saved.

Slaanesh Assault 4
No activity

Aurora Move 4
Multiple units close on what is left of the Slannesh forces. The Terminators move towards the central Noise Marines. The Land Speeder finally deep strikes in behind Slaanesh’s left flank (from my table edge perspective).

Aurora Shooting 4
The centre Rhino fires its Storm Bolter at the Lesser Demons causing 2 hits, 2 wounds and 1 fatality.
The first Tactical squad of the two remaining rapid fires 16 bolter shots at the Lesser Demons hitting 11 times causing 5 wounds sending the remaining monstrosities back to the warp.
The Lascannon/TL Plasmagun fires at the left rear Rhino (a possessed Rhino holding a squad of Noise Marines on an objective) – the Lascannon causes a pentrating hit but rolls 1 on the damage table which is ignored.
The Landspeeder fires both Multimelta’s into the same possessed Rhino, destroying its Storm Bolter.
The Land Raider Redeemer has moved 12 so using POMS fires its Multimelta at the weaponless Dreadnaught immobilising it (its effectively a statue now).

Aurora Assault 4
The TH/SS Terminators charge the 3 remaining Noise Marines in the centre building. The Noise Marine’s hit 3 times causing 2 wounds both of which deflect from the Terminator armour. The Terminators hit 10 times and wipe out the squad.

Slaanesh Move 5
No activity

Slaanesh Shooting 5
The Land Speeder is hit with multiple weapons suffering a penetrating and glancing hit – both equal 2 on the vehicle damage table after modifiers.
4 Lascannons fire at the Land Raider Redeemer hitting twice but both fail to even cause a glancing hit.

Aurora Move 5
One Tactical squad moves onto one objective, the second moves onto the objective in the large building the Terminators have just cleared.

At this point we agree the game has ended (I don’t take my shooting attacks) and the Imperials take the victory 2 to 1 objective.

A really enjoyable match played in a very friendly spirit. The Imperial Terminator saving rolls really were outstanding, shrugging off multiple Lascannon, Demon Weapon and Noise Marine weapon hits turn after turn. At a quick count, the 5 man Assault Terminator squad + Terminator Librarian faced down:

3 force weapon wounds
6 normal close combat wounds
1 power weapon wound
4 lascannon wounds
4 plasma cannon wounds
1 blastmaster wound
4 sonic blaster wounds (one fail)
2 demon weapon wounds (Librarian fails his 5+)

For the loss of 1 Marine and the Librarian. Lesson here is take the Storm Shield for the Librarian!

Memorable moment for me however was that doomed Plasma Gunner who had seen 8 men of his squad cut down and even as he was being slain by a Greater Demon still managed to kill the monster with his close combat weapon. A hero worthy of the fluff!

gutted for the chaos
i think you should have spent less time going for the terminators with 2 up armour and 3 up invun there pretty much rock, instead i would have been shooting alot more at the standard tactical marines (blastmasters make a nice mess of them) and sent the lord in against some tacticals thats usually quite fun aswell.

The best way to deal with Terminators is to sacrifice a squad to kill their transport and run away from them (IMO). I am amazed the chaos player set up so close to midfield, that is just asking to get absolutely massacred, allowing a 1st Turn charge to a LR is pretty brutal...

I mean the three most competitive armies are Tau, Mechdar... and JOHN RAMBO.

An IG player once asked me if he could borrow him to play against me. I told him that in that case, I wouldn't be able to win anymore. I mean with John Rambo against me, all my DE could come up with is Tim Burton.
