Hello all,

As usual, after reading other people's project blogs for so long, I finally got inspired and started one of my own. Sort of a tribute to them. The theme was originally Templars, but with the update I've turned them in to knight-ish vanilla marines (which means a lot of fast heavy weapons and seargent painting)

Librarian is Exekiel that i'm doing a repaint - was one of my first models and i think looks sweet. Captain is one of hte chapter masters (i forget which) with a weapon swap from sword to storm bolter (honestly, who needs PF and SB?). i'll need to gs the connection again, but i'm going to leave it until the end, cause i'm weird like that :-)

I've started off with most of the base coats for the two, over chaos black of course...

All comments / critisism welcome (even spelling)

Cheers,

Chad

Not bad, not bad at all. Only suggestion is you might want to work a little more on your faces, they do not have much definition.

Thanks EmpBoBo,

yeah i know about the faces :-) i'm planning on a wash for the definition, and then a highligh or two to try and bring out the features.

i was thinking about giving the Captain a shaved head, has ne1 got any good suggestions as to how this might be achieved (apart from shaving foam and a tiny razor)???

Hello all,

Just a quick post with photos. i've been focusing a bit too much on the librarian, i think becuase he appeals to me more (i REALLY like that model).

I'm after some additional help with the highlighting of the robe - it's too contrasted between the layers (scorched brown, graveyard earth, kommando khaki in that order). i was going to do another highligh of bleached bone, but i think the extra layer of brightness will be too much contrast. Ideas anyone?

Cheers,

Kensei

Evening from Oz,

Tonights posts show the bleached bone layer for cloth / robe, and the final white hightlight to the shoulderpads. i'll edge the shoulderpads where it meets metal with a brown or black ink to help separate.

Cheers all,

Hi all,

just a small update for the librarian - i've been building up the colours all over, and i've finally inked the gold and done a highlight.

i just tried my hand at blending for the force sword - turned out pretty good i think.

As always, comments welcome

cheers,

Alot better after the repaint. I'd suggest using some washes on these.... a wash for the blue armour would pick out even more detail.. but make sure its watered down enough so you don't loose the original colour of the armour.

It took me a while to get used to the new washes. When I was orignally into 40k GW made those wonderful Inks which I miss very much. I'm still trying out lots of different ways to paint. Its really just about finding a style thats comfortable for you. So keep going!

i've put a couple of black washes on it now and it's looking heaps better. i'll post pics after work.

"Straight Fething Silver" Tanith first and only

I have a reputation, Modile, a reputation as a fair, honest man who treats his soldiers well and supports them in the face of darkness. Potentially, that reputation makes me soft. It seems I understand failure and forgive it. Some, like Kowle, believe me to be a weak commissar, not prepared to take the action my rank demands. Not prepared to enforce field discipline where I see it failing. I am an Imperial commissar. I will enflame the weak, support the wavering, guide the lost. I will be all things to all men who need me. But I will also punish without hesitation the weak, the incompetent, and the treasonous.

Also, this is just my taste, but try putting down a little flock (possibly a little hair from your scalp, if you don't find it to be creepy, or some other such long wispy object), then cover that with another thin layer of sand by applying the glue directly onto the base (possibly even super glue), then a quick dip into the sand cup.

Great freehand. I like the model as a whole. The paint jobs could be touched up a bit just to keep it a little cleaner. Such as the robe, try painting a light color of white on the very ridges to highlight, should work especially with the washes already completed.

Hi Mica,

Yes, as mentioned, it's Ezekiel and the Master of the Arsenal from Apocalypse.

Ezekiel's blade was "modified" when i was toying with a samurai themed SM army (i know... cheesy). The MoA has had an arm swap from the power sword to a storm bolter. BTH i didn't think that any SM would really benefit from running with both weapons.

the Flock / hair trick, are we talking about the base? nw, i'm still getting to tht base for the MoA, and the librarian i seem to have misplaced my small flock somewhere, so i decided to use the thicker stuff.

Cheers, for the praise WarPetrie

thanks mate - i'll give it a go, cause i haven't got around to spraying the sealer on it yet. not sure if i want to, cause it tends to make the models uber shiny. But they are metal, so 1 bump and i've lost 2 days work...

The White on your Captain looks clear and crisp though you may want to add some freehand on his cloak to give it some definition.

Hey Carbaine,

You read it!!! excellent thanks for noticing the cloak, i've been toying with the idea of freehand, cause the model just doesn't enough green on him to reflect the 4th company that he is. but it's been in that list of things i'm working up to.

To everyone - i've taken some photos of the rest of the army, and i'll be posting them in ~12 hours when my internet quota resets (love that oz infrastructure)
