Hullo,

Just wanted to get a few opinions on my latest conversion. I was wanting Ragnar to lead my army, but didn't wanna use the original mini 'cos it looked too 'static' and didn't suit his them i thought.

Anyways, i hacked up the wolf guard battle leader model by hacking off his head and arms at the elbow and raiding my bits box for some stuff. i had to green stuff some joins and am thinking its still lacking something, but not quite sure what it is.

i still need to tidy it up around the joins of the elbos etc, but i'm fairly happy with how it turned out. I think the battle leader model lends more movement and, in my opinion, makes the model look more 'in action'.

The version you made certainly is an improvement to the old GW one no doubt.

Im just very picky about the over used bald and screaming look ^^'

Thanks man. It needs a wee bit of tweaking and i was thinking of adding more hair on top with green stuff.

Cheers.

Make his chainsword a little longer if you can, Ragnars one from GW mini is a bit longer. i saw a conversion on the GW website a while ago :

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=5100021a

see that gives you any help with your problems

its a very good model though and i totally understand what you mean about the old ones movement though good luck with painting it, looking forward to seeing it painted

Hail!

One thing I have seen for Ragnar conversions that I think works really well is giving him and uber chainsword. If you haven't read the books, he gets his chainsword after saving the life of a navagator that the Space Wolves chapter is sworn to protect. The blade is crazy old and crazy big. What I have seein is basically cutting off the rounded part of the first chainsword, and then cutting off the hilt/handle side of a second and sticking them together. This process leads to a sword that looks really similar to the old Ragnar model, but as you mentioned, it will certianly look more dynamic.

Awesome looking conversion thought!

I agree with luna about the hair, even if he has aged, he is a space marine, they never get old. But i like everything else on him, you did a nice job.

Been thinking about the changes (i.e. chainsword and hair...)

gonna make an uber chainsword, but i need to buy another box of grey hunters so i can use some swords from the sprue, and might look at making a better head as well.

In the meantime, here's the paint scheme i'm using for my army, only painted 15 models so far...but you get the idea. Lining in all the recesses takes me forever, just fenris grey base coats, followed by two coats of shadow grey, lining in, then a single sharp highlight of space wolves grey.

I'm using the dark metal technique on the silver metal areas, and have been experimenting with NMM. Which i'm not yet confident of using, but might look to paint the character models with NMM.

I'll post more pics of a few other conversions and stuff when i get a chance.

It's 11:15 at night at the mo, and gonna bugger off to sleep.

have a good one!

my god! I am a SW collector and have loved them since I owned three boxes of the 'new' metal wolf guard terminators :-) but these look amazing and i'd have to say with so many SW armies out there with so many slight variations on how to paint them these are in my top 3 of best looking models, I just love the fine lining it looks so very very good, the colour is spot on imo and yes your face work is exeptional, i really can't wait to see more, I have had my 'new' SW army packed up in a box after some critisism about mould lines where I argued about table top quality and cracked the narks with him...but I just might bust them out and finish them after seeing this lot, awesome job :-)

Those are some great looking Space Wolves! I really like the pose of Ragnar too, very impressed by him and the bottom Wolf Guard in particular!

In contrast to Lunar, I think that hair actually quite suites Ragnar, although i think you could 'try' him bald as well as they could similarly suit him. Maybe try making the top-knot face backwards to suit his running?

Good Luck, looks great!

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."
