Hey everybody!

Having nothing but the AOBR set and a warbuggy, I realised that my orks were rather lacking in character.
Recently I've been massively converting everything I look at, so I thought I should take a break and show off my very own converted AOBR dreadnought!
Ladies, gentleman, drooling Hive Tyrants and orks alike, I present to you:
'THA TANK MUNCHA!'

The ork on top is wearing a space marine pack. The wires going from the pack to the dread's arms and back are made from copper wire, and are actually coming out of the eyes of the skull on the pack, although the glue decided to make that invisible. There are also wires running from the torso to the legs/hips.
The jaw is made from a few layers of my ghetto-style plasticard (plastic party plates) and the points of toothpicks.

Some photos of the original mock-up, when it was held together with blu-tack:

And after I made some changes glued it all together:

Some changes I made included:
-Removing a few wires, for a less cluttered appearance,
-Removing the shoulder spikes,
-Scratching off the spikes on the right panel's emblem thingo,
-And adding the jaw for extra Orky-ness.
I also added a Tank Trap (I think that's what they're called) to the base, which I made from some plastic spue offcuts, sharpened and given wood grain using a hobby knife.

The yellow is just two coats of Iyanden Darksun and a liberal wash of Gryphonne Sepia, specked and drybrushed in some places with Gunmetal and extremely light Blood Red.
Most of the wires are Blood Red, and almost all of the colours are washed with Gryphonne Sepia or Devlan Mud.

I'd like to end with two Glory Shots and a group photo:

Hope you all like it,
HadoukenAvenger.

Looks Nice! I really like personal themes and colours.
If you like, you could add a whole lot of extra work on this, like adding big metal plate reinforcements, buzzsaws and other orkish details that dont really do more than add to the Orkness. A popular thing to do would be to model the casket hatch open and the former marine torn out, since the ork is standing on top anyway. It really works the way it is tho; after all, Orks like it simple and ready for battle.
The only thing that bugs me is that the Boy on the roof is NOT holding some kind of Joy sticks or controls to bring the monster forward instead of holding pistol and sword

You need a plog for these, man. Looks pretty good, but needs more orkification. More dakka and armor plates are what you need.

I also think you should paint the dreds teef a different color. They are too similar to the rest of the dred and I didnt even notice them at first. I think for the lack of bits though, you did a pretty creative thing. Nice job

Looks great. But the ork should have a joystick or remote control for the Dread so that it looks more orky.

Fantastic colour scheme as well.

Interesting concept with the ork outside of the dred. I agree with alexwars needs to look more orky.

Dude, you have to switch the weapons in his hands. If he's controlling it via his movements, the gun should match where that melta thing is and the ccw where his pow fist is.

Also, what about some sort of armor protection for the driver, one sniper shot and that would be a waste of metal.

I applaud the effort, but I'm rather lukewarm on the results. I think you could really improve the look if the looting ork was incorporated into the dread a bit more. Right now, it kind of looks like you just glued an ork on top of a dread (not belittling your other additions, just want to stress my point). I would definitely ditch the slugga/choppa, as it looks both out of place and very stock-AoBR. If you don't want to go the usual bioniks route, you could play up the current positioning by having the ork "dread surfing" - cut away the weapons in his hands, then add ropes (easily made from wire, like your bionik wiring, but painted brow/tan instead of red - could be twisted from thinner wire to look extra ropey) coming up from the dread body like reigns. It'd be silly, it'd be orky, it'd require minimal extra conversion and repainting, and you wouldn't have to reposition much of anything. I may have to do this if I come across a cheap AoBR dread...

Also, what are you running this as? The DCCW can obviously stay the same, but what about the MM? Counts-as KMB?

The Dreadnote wrote:But the Emperor already has a shrine, in the form of your local Games Workshop. You honour him by sacrificing your money to the plastic effigies of his warriors. In time, your devotion will be rewarded with the gift of having even more effigies to worship.

I'd say it'd look better if the slugga and choppa arms were reversed, so the ork's actions would be pantomimed by the dread.

Alright, Troubleshooting time, I guess.

Controls:I did want to incorporate some sort of control device, but as I said (I think I said it..) I have very limited resources. I did play around with the idea originally, but nothing seemed to work. I figure he uses mental pulses or nerve twitches to command it, rather thatn 'controlling' it. Like riding a giant, metal horse. I also wanted it to have the appearance of easy acces, as orks would be getting on and off.

Weapon Placement: I wanted to give the impression of the ork urging on his men with his gun, and, yes, I do know the weapons are in the wrong hands. (I was hoping no one would notice) I'll get to work on that.

Wired-in-ness: Yeeaaahh.....Maybe I should stick some wires from his arms into the main 'Sarcophagus' area. Like the 'Dread surfing' idea but with more pain!

for the god,
H.A.

Update: I've started a plog for my orks now, ( to cjsuner and alexwars1) and I'm hoping you guys will check it out:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/295579.page
There's a little fluff at the start, explaining the redness of the orks and some background lore, hope you like it!

Now, on to business!
I've been wondering what to field this bad boy as ( to you too, oadie) and I'd like some suggestions. It has a Dread CCW, a Multi-melta and a storm bolter. Any Ideas?

Would love some feedback,
H.A.

Edit: After quickly scanning through the ork codex, I'm kind of thinking this should be a Killa Kan, seeing as they don't need more than one of each weapon type. Maybe it could be a KK with CCW, KMB and big shoota?

Another neat idea would be to count the ork's weapons as dread weapons. So it would have two CCW and two (insert apropriate weapon name here)'s, disregarding either the strom bolter or multi-melta (Just say they're broken. Hey, it's looted. It's not supposed to run smoothly)

It's not da orkiest fing I've ever seen, but that seems appropriate; as you're likely just starting out, it would seem that this one has just recently been looted. Great job with the weathering and washes, and good on you for doing some non-green Orks.
