Interesting, Interesting...Rather than scrap the robes altogethr you could try doing them in an alternate colour. Eg. Grey or black...

oh sorry you misunderstand me (i think i didn't make it clear), i am not planning on scrapping robes, its just that the robes as a whole dont seem to show veterancy (a GW DA dev squad wear robes, i dont know why). and in future i would like to purchase normal SM vets and maybe sternguard to act as DA vets, where they will sort of fit in if not all the plastic DA vets are robed.
its just i will not use them to show who is a veteran or not, if that makes sense.

Nice ideas there, not a fan of the robes myself, far prefere the tabards of the BT.

Out of interest what are you going to be using to strip your plastics. I have a few myself that i'd like to get clean.

Instead of the white strip why don't you have a full bleached bone helm. that will tie in very nicely with your termies i think.

Lenny Nice idea with the bleached bone, although i'm trying not to drift off too far from standard DA, so i thought a strip would do nice, otherwise they might look like successor chapter dudes, i think i might do the same then with shoulder trim aswell.

i heard that acetone free nail polish remover works well, though i need to test it first otherwise it might melt the plastic

I use acetone-free on my metal minis. I wouldn't recommend it for plastics though. I find that it softens up the details too much for when you're cleaning them.

For UK I have heard fairy power spray (the one in the green bottle) is good, though I have not tried that myself yet.

Hope that helps and I look forward to see updates.

@lennysmash: how long do you have to leave the model if you use fairy?
@ krusty: yeah, i'm just brushing up the leader atm. i'm removing the camo paint and just giving him a normal face paint job, and i have done the free hand work on his shoulder pads.

the next update will probabely be up next tuesday or wednesday, with hopefully a complete scout squad, and my company standard

i have a large dark angel army myself with lots of robes and banners. i found that with the robes if you base coat in chaos black then put a heavy coat of Kommando khaki over they look pretty damn good and very similar to the fluf colours. also for some added detail use a Gryphonne sepia wash over the robes and you will find that they really "pop"

Hey Dark I'm not sure how long you leave the stuff in the fairy, just heard around the forums that is was good stuff and didn't damage the models.

ok guys mini update. i have completed the scout sergeant (he was the guy with the camo face) with some more detailing and stuff. i have decided to make it more realistic all metallic parts are to be boltgun metalled, then ALOT of washes of chaos black, and then chainmail highlights, because you don't see many modern rifles plain metal-coloured. you are welcome to mention anything you think could be changed or added paintwise, or base wise.

sorry guys for lack of update. ive been busy with school so have been unable to do much.
at the moment i am at the stage of nearly completing the 3 other scouts.
the heavy bolter scout on the other hand is utterly screwed. if you wash with watered down normal GW paints you end up cracking the paint. well i scraped off all of the paint on the head and when i try putting a chaos black basecoat it all blocks up as if ive just painted a blob, which i havent. so i will have to leave him and do him again.
I have made some little progress on the DA banner, and on the little painted DA vet with the boltgun.
In other news i have just attempted using acetone free nail polish remover. the effect: after 4 minutes it is absolutely fantastic, although it does weaken the plastic a small amount. only problem thanks to space marines being so angular and stuff you cannot get to all of the painted bits, unlike lets say, a tank.

i was also having a look through IA:4 and saw how DA are painted in that. it seems sergeants (vet) have a bone coloured stripe BELOW the top mohawk intake helmet thing, not on it. while i think normal vets have a bone coloured knee pad. i think i will do this but also do the bone shoulder trim.

I promise that i will definetely post a proper update by either Sunday evening or Wednesday, with a fully completed scout squad and the possibility of the standard bearer done and a few other robed guys.

see you round guys!

firstly i have to apologise for my inability of getting my scouts done. i have been pretty much ill over the week and every time i attempt to do any of my scouts i get bored after about half an hour and start something else. its because painting the same type of model again really affects me with boredom for some reason. so now i will start posting every complete model individually. so this is what ive been able to do recently:

joy to the world! my models have finally arrived.

here is the list:
SM battleforce
Ravenwing battleforce
predator
DA veterans
Devastator squad
chaplain with jump pack
wh40k basing kit
hobby drill thing
devlan mud
shadow grey
chaos black
ice blue
'ardcoat varnish

any modelling tips and ideas for my new members of 3rd Co. and 10th Co.
i think i will keep the scouts as a bunch of guys with boltguns and shotguns, with a CC sergeant, as i already have 2 boltgun scouts, 2 shotgun scouts, and 1 heavy bolter.

the assault squad in the battleforce are going to be maybe 5 cc normal dudes or 4 cc dudes and 1 with a flamer or something. (i was thinking of using the assault marine legs for the tactical squad) so in the end joined with my old assault marines, i will have a 10 man assault squad led by the chaplain YAAY!!!

i'm thinking of using the DA vet bodies for my devastator squad to spice things up a bit.

ok, enough talking from me, time for photos!

here i have my first assembled ravenwing biker, and to be fair, these dudes are pretty badass. drilled out the gun barrels and is planning on mounting him on the base at a slight angle, but not as much as shown in the final photo. i will paint the model and base separately and then connect the two together at the end.

The bikers looking good mate. Nice big order as well.

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building, copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair & grab some popcorn and yell JUMP!!!!!

guys i would like you to help me out, such as ideas on posing and structure of squads. the main thing i need help with is the robed bodies in the vet box. i already have enough robed veterans so i want to add the robes to something else such as devastators and the like, (i might like to do devastators simply because assault dudes with robes might look wierd, and GW have their DA devastators robed up)

hey guys, i am pretty much complete assembling the predator.
heres what still needs doing:
proper filing of the plastic, i have done most, but you cannot get the last of it off with what i use (big chunky file off a multitool )

GS-ing all the cracks, damn i hate the rhino kits, theres always gaps in the parts. plus GS-ing all the over-filed parts and damaged plastic from over-use of glue.

adding all the extra tid-bits (the new tanks don't seem to come with the stowage boxes and rope they used to come with)
open to ideas on this. i have lots of ravenwing vehicle sprues which come with all the DA vehicle stuff like big purity seals and logo thingamabobs.
i was planning on sticking on the turret lots of kit like you see on modern day tanks like on this pic here

Huzzah! well, after being busy with end of year school work, then a summer holiday where i was away from home most of the time, i have made progress (be it not much).
i have assembled the landspeeder, and i have to say, i hated almost every moment of it, from breaking the cool ball+socket base thing, to putting the fuselage together, but i did it!
along with that i made the devastator squad (i actually assembled them back in june/july but never uploaded the pics), and 6 tactical marines. (one marine is conversion/GS-ing type, and is still WIP, and will be finished pretty soon. he is twin wielding his bolter and bolt pistol, and looks total hardcore in my opinion. the head is not glued on but is there to show what head im using)

i am doing my models in a 3 stage techinque.
stage one- basic assembly: so all the torso and stuff
stage two- all the tid-bits like purity seals, loin cloths, pouches, nades etc
stage three- painting

the bases i am doing separetely and the models will be placed on them after painting. i will have to start painting soon, otherwise i will run out of bases for my model assembly.

Great to see some posts from you;
I also like the guy with bolt pistol and bolter, along side with the missile Dev.

Looks good though I would really recommend you drill out the gun barrels and shave off the really noticeable mold lines. Adds more realism and increases the overall model quality.

besring: thanks, its a long time since i did get some work done

Eggrol: i did buy a hobby drill with the rest of my stuff, i will do the drilling when i get to stage 2, along with complete shaving (i can only get the most obvious mould off with nail files).

quick update on what i did last night with the WIP dude, after i posted the last pics i changed his arm position so there wouldn't be so much GS sticking out, but theres still quite alot of it to see. now i didnt want to cut down the dry GS in fear the arm will just come off again, and my sculpting skills are less than satisfactory. so i decided to cover up the GS with more GS, with a big cloth which would drape down his shoulder sticking at the back, and to cover up the GS at the bottom i put another little cloth. i will do trimming and drilling and putting other bits on it soon aswell.

hidey ho! second update of the day. man i'm making progress(for once!).
well ive done phase one now on the twin wielder dude, and ive completed another marine. i think i have 4 tactical guys left to make, then i will move on to either assault marines or more ravenwing goodies. once my order of FW model masterclass comes in i well get on with painting. but before painting i will have to go through phase 2.
