Game 2: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/295326.page

Opponent: Space Marines

List:

Librarian w/ Stormshield, Nullzone, Avenger
Sicarius

6 TH/SS Terminators w/ Crusader (EA, MM)
Dreadnought w/ Plasma Cannon, Heavy Flamer
Dreadnought w/ Plasma Cannon, Heavy Flamer

Tactical Squad w/ meltagun, MM, Fist, Rhino
Tactical Squad w/ meltagun, MM, Fist, Rhino
Tactical Squad w/ flamer, Missile Launcher, Fist (He Infiltrated this)
10x Scouts w/ 4x Sniper, Missile Launcher, Telion

Landraider w/ EA
Landraider w/ EA

Initial thoughts: Well... you sure don't get a lot of things on the table when you drop nearly 800 points into landraiders. I was worried at first to be at the top table with 52 total killpoints in the last mission, but figured I'd give my opponent what for. I question the use of Sicarius. Also, not a big fan of fists on tac squads, especially in a rhino (it tricks your goofy brain into actually disembarking them). Anyway, overall not how I would make them, but you can see just how far Landraider spam can take an army (he lost none his other games). My goal would be to learn from my last game. I outshoot him period, so I am just going to sit and wait.

Deployment:

My Emperor's Tarot works! First turn. I mull over passing it, but I take a risk and figure he will deploy accross the table, so I bunker into a corner with the Vendettas each loaded with a Melta Squad (CCS, Vets, PCS) scouting to within 12". Like I hoped, he spreads his army out instead of setting up 24" away from me. Now, I nearly got screwed over by dismissing Sicarius too quickly: he rerolls seize the initiative! Lucky me, he fails to steal it.

Turn 1:

Ever have one of those games where everything goes right? I know we all only remember our massive losses, but this turn went ridiculously for me. My Meltas all come out, and Vendettas support my Raider-hunters. The vets wreck the far Godhammer. Both my 'Bring it Down' orders pass, and epic ridiculousness ensues. His crusader gets destroyed, two Terminators fail their armour saves. My CCS immobilizes and weapon destroys and shakes the last Godhammer. I take off the Assault cannon to give the CCS the best chance to survive and be able to shoot next turn. The rest of my army destroys a dreadnought and shakes the other, and the rest take some shots at the scouts up in the building (which didn't have camo cloaks, he ran out of points). I think I also wrecked one rhino because the squad got out of it. Then, the Terminators fail their Ld 10 panic check and run off the table taking both HQs with them... Harsh.

He runs his Dreadnought at my melta squads and moves his rhino around the back of the building and pops smoke. The Scout missile fails to penetrate the Vendetta. His marines cause 7 casualties on the vets, but they don't run.

Turn 2:

The last Landraider dies to two more 'Bring it Downs'. I immobilize the Dreadnought and blow both its arms off. More shots go into Marines and Scouts. The Vets hide in my Vendetta which zips over to deal with that rhino. I destroy the last Rhino, having moved all of my spare plasma and meltas toward it, I wanted to have destroyed it sooner, but it survived all my other shooting. I start to move my DH Stormtroopers up the left board edge to get into his deployment zone out of range of anything. I mishap one unit of Stormtroopers and he places them in a far corner.

His Marines cause two wounds on the PCS, but again it doesn't run. His rhino meltas wreck the other DH Stormtrooper's Chimera. Missile fails against the Vendetta again. His outflanking tactical comes on in my corner. They assault the Russ and don't multi-assault the Autocannon HWS. It moved so they do nothing and finish the turn lined up in a nice straight line.

(Opponent's view, scary)

Turn 3:

I back up the russ and heavy flamer the whole unit, and take the rest of the board with the help of some autocannons. The meltas finish off the Dreadnought. My vehicles finish the scouts off and the last unit of Stormtroopers come in and help to take out the last of the Tactical Marines.

(Opponent's view of a tabling. Yikes, I can see the psychological effect this many vehicles can have on an opponent.)

Post-game analysis: Not much of a game, everything went right, but I could not pull off devastation like this against a 12 Razorback list. The Runners up (CSM, Space Marines) had an army just like that (Photo below). That being said, I need to trust my instincts more and just castle up tight when I know I can outshoot. My last opponent ended up placing 3rd overall.

Result: Massacre (Table) + 4 Bonus.

Day's total: 67 Battlepoints, around 5600 Victory Points.

1st: Guard
2nd: Chaos Space Marines
3rd: Land Raider Space Marines
4th: 12 Razorback Space Marines

That Razorback list inspired me, I might end up bringing 12 Las/Plas Razors with Space Wolves to semis...

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

curious, are you participating in steleks "challenge" by any chance seeing how you took his list verbatim, and seem to have done quite well with it.

I'll play it by ear. Semis have nice prize support, but I doubt at the moment if I want to travel to Chicago to play for a replica thunderhammer...

Maybe if they did the finals in Vegas and I could make a trip out of it. WTF are you going to do in Chicago?

I'd to see this list as well:

"4th: 12 Razorback Space Marines "

I'd never play marines but if I did this sounds interesting theme-wise.

He did it with Sternguard and Devastators.

SM codex has an interesting entry for devastoators: they don't HAVE to take a heavy weapon. 90 points for the squad.
